JQuery :: Adding Selected State To Navigation With Window Location Match?
Nov 15, 2010
I know that others have asked about adding a class to a navigation based on indow.location, but I couldn't quite fit my question within those bounds, so hopefully it's alright to ask here.RequirementAdd a class based on window locationComplexityThe current if/else method I have doesn't work correctly, because all subsequent URLs will have the initial word we're looking for,andI'd like to have the final else to be on nav id#3 - (because the url's there will all be varied and may change later so adding those specifically in the if/else seems redundant)So far I've probably explained nothing, so here's what the code looks like:
if (window.location.pathname.match(/(employees)/)) {
$('#nav1').addClass("selected");
}
[code]....

Danged if I can find the thread, but I swear I saw a $.url() reference in here a day or two ago. It was beingutilized for parsing out the window.location or window.location.search parameters. I made a mental note because that was something I would be needing to do.
Now I can't find it, either because the search isn't finding it or I was dreaming about this function existing.
I rummaged about the API docs and didn't find it there either. Is it something provided by one of the plugins and not a function native to jQuery?

there's a line in my Javascript program that makes a change in the
appearance of an area of the screen. it is a game program, so there are
a cascade of changes after the user makes a move. these are carefully
sequenced and timed in a loop which contains the "action" statement
document.images[k].src = offGIF[currNode];
unfortunately, the *actual* screen updating appears to be 1)
asynchronous and 2) faulty!
_asynchronou_s in that things change in the wrong order, as if each has
its own thread and they run at random.
_faulty_ in that occasionally an area that would change from, say,
picture1.gif to picture2.gif and back again (according to game logic)
lands up showing picture2.gif. even though the internal game logic has
it recorded (and i assume document.images[k].src would be correct, even
though the screen is not) as picture1. so.
is there a way to wait or surrender control to the system until the
program statement's intent has actually been rendered to the screen?
something i can test to see if the unerlying system mechanism has caught
up with all changes to document.images?

I'm quite new to web design and Javascript in particular. How to resolve a problem with the navigation bar in a website I am currently working on. The navigation bar has 3 main categories and there is an 'active' state so the page currently viewed is shown as grey underline text in the navigation bar. The thing is, I also have sub-categories that are not included in the navigation bar but I'd like to make it so the sub-category page currently being viewed makes the main category to which it is attached showing as 'active' in the navigation bar.
This is the structure of my site:
index.html
contact.thml
illustration
index.html
illustrationproject1.html
illustrationproject2.html
illustrationproject3.html
photography
index.html
photography1.html
photography2.html
So for example, if I'm in illustrationproject1.html, the Illustration tab in the navigation bar should be on the active state. This is the code I have so far:
Navigation Bar:
[CODE]
<ul id="nav">
<li class="nav_item"><a href="illustration/index.html">Illustration</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="photography/index.html">Photography</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="design/index.html">Design</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="stories/index.html">Stories</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="profile.html" title="Profile">Profile</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="contact.html" title="Contact">Contact</a></li>
<li class="nav_item"><a href="links.html" title="Links">Links</a></li>
</ul>
[ICODE]
This is the Javscript for the active state:
[CODE]
function setActive() {
aObj = document.getElementById('nav').getElementsByTagName('a');
for(i=0;i<aObj.length;i++) {
if(document.location.href.indexOf(aObj[i].href)>=0) {
aObj[i].className='active';
}}}
[ICODE]
So this code is working but I'm just not sure how to apply it to the subcategories as well. I can see what I should do, write some "if" statement but I don't enough of Javascript yet for this...

My first foray in using JQuery - trying to customize navigation in SharePoint 2010. Have adapted some jquery found online through various sources to meet needs. However, having an ID assigned to the <ul> element that drives my menu is required. SP, while dynamically building menu does not assign and ID to the ul element. Been trying, unsuccessfully thus far, to use jquery to add and ID tag to the proper ul... just wanted to see if that is in fact possible and for any tips in implementing.
Output is <ul class="root static"> and I would like to replace it with <ul class="root static" id="menu">
I have been successfully in simply replacing the cssclass (which doesn't actually help me) and in replacing regular text in the body, but just can't get that ID added to the element.

I have a set of regular expressions that make heavy use of the | operator on sections that I do not really need to extract a match from. For example:
Code:
var regexp = /([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) (jumps( high)?|leaps|bounds) over ([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) and (grabs|snags|gets) (a|an|the) (apple|orange|pear|grapes)/
The important part for extracting from the match array after using regexp.exec() are the names (the ([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) parts), I don't care which of the other things are matched. The problem is that using the | operator seems to necessitate using the () and adding a term to the match. This makes it difficult to know which term in the array will be the names, especially after editing the middle.So I'd like to be able to use the | operator on words and phrases without adding terms to the match array.

If I type http://domain.com/product/5 into my browser I will see the
product details in the main div plus a side bar div containing links to
other products. This side bar is common to all product views. I click a
sidebar link to product 6 and an ajax request updates the main cell
with the product 6 information. My location bar will still say
/product/5. If I refresh the browser I will see product 5. If I
bookmark the page it will be for product 5. If I click the back button
I will go to the page I saw before product 5. I know none of these
problems with AJAX are new. Why is it that JavaScript can't tell the
browser "Now you are looking at http://domain.com/product/6"? Is there
a security risk? Is this just something not yet implemented?

I am attempting to make a menu that has a background image that changeswhen you rollover or click a menuitem. I've got the hover effect working fine with CSS, but am trying to implement the click event via jquery with the following:
CSS:
div.SustainResourcesMenuTabs
{ background-image: url('/images/departments/commdev/sustainability/menu_tab.jpg');
}[code]....
My process is to reset the entire menu to the inactive state, then switch on the active state for the item that was clicked. Eventually, the item that was clicked will display its corresponding body section as well. I've tried using the CSS pseudo-class "active", but since the entire div is the link, that is unavailable. I've also tried multiple variations of addClass/removeClass, toggleClass, and setAttribute/removeAttributebut nothing hasworked so far.
