RegExp: How To Match On Exact String Only?

Jul 23, 2005

I am trying to figure out how to set up my reg exp search so that the search
will only match on the exact word.

Here is the current problem code:

Word1 = "RealPlayer.exe"
Word2 = "Player.exe"

RegExp re = Word2;
if (re.Find(Word1))
{
bFound = TRUE;
}

Currently the bFound is set to TRUE since "Player.exe" is found within
"RealPlayer.exe". But I only want bFound to be TRUE is if the entire word
matches.

Match Exact Number Of Uppercase Letters?

Jan 12, 2011

I want to match 5 uppercase letters followed by a dash, followed by 5 more uppercase letters. I tested this:

Code:

<script type="text/javascript">
var str="^This is a test. PIYRW-NKJDQ";
var patt1=/[A-Z]{5}-[A-Z]{5}/g;
document.write(str.match(patt1));
</script>

and if I change the last part of str to "XXPIYRWV-XNKJDQ" it matches "IYRWV-XNKJD" when I want it to return null. What am I doing wrong?

Test Strings Against A Regular Expression - Getting "No Match"

Jul 6, 2009

I am trying to test some strings against a regular expression, but have tried at least 10 different online testers with no success at all. Plus I've tried some code to do it myself, again with no success. I know for a fact that some of the strings should match and some shouldn't match, but I am getting "No match" returns from all the strings.

Does somebody have some page code that has the regular expression in some javascript code in the head section of a document, then a form in the body that I can enter the text string, click a button, and I get an alert saying if the string matches or not?

JQuery :: Loop Through Array And If A Match Go To Next One?

Apr 28, 2011

I am trying to get good using the $.each() in jQuery. I have a simple little task that I want to solve.

I have created a simple page with 100 boxes, each box with 4 colors. What I want to happen is if you click one box, it will change colors to the next box and so on. so for example here are 4 boxes

Red | Green | Blue | Yellow

If you click on Red you would get:

Green | Green | Blue | Yellow

If you click on the Green (1st one) you would get:

Blue | Green | Blue | Yellow

I have created a jsfiddle for you to view with what I have so far. I am stumpped at creating a match for the class name and if it matches to then go onto the next color in the array.

Regalur Expressions - Operator On Words And Phrases Without Adding Terms To The Match Array?

Feb 3, 2011

I have a set of regular expressions that make heavy use of the | operator on sections that I do not really need to extract a match from. For example:

Code:
var regexp = /([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) (jumps( high)?|leaps|bounds) over ([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) and (grabs|snags|gets) (a|an|the) (apple|orange|pear|grapes)/

The important part for extracting from the match array after using regexp.exec() are the names (the ([A-Z][A-Za-z]+) parts), I don't care which of the other things are matched. The problem is that using the | operator seems to necessitate using the () and adding a term to the match. This makes it difficult to know which term in the array will be the names, especially after editing the middle.So I'd like to be able to use the | operator on words and phrases without adding terms to the match array.

Once Set A Private Variable, Test That Object Independently Becomes A Nightmare As The Next Test Is Polluted By The Actions Of The Previous?

Mar 14, 2009

I'm using the standard module pattern and the problem is once you set a private variable, trying to test that object independently becomes a nightmare as the next test is polluted by the actions of the previous.So, the options are to have some reset method (which is horrible), setters on everything (defeats the point) or delete object and re-load script (hideous).
