is there a function that get the name of the first input field of the
current form ?
in my example below I want create an array of form field name and in the
onsubmit assign all element's name to create a simple iteration to test if
some elements in my array, that must be required, are null:
something like function verify(array of string)and in onsubmit something
like return onsubmit(field1,field2,field3....) Code:
When looping thru a group of elements and using getNamedItem('itemname').value there are some elements that are going to have a null value for that particular getNamedItem... the problem is that you cannot test this value to see if it's null because it generates an error instead, and the code does not continue: _allnames[_j].attributes.getNamedItem("onchange") is null
You cannot even test it for null like this: if (_allnames[_j].attributes.getNamedItem("onchange").value != null) { do something } This will also generate an Error instead of testing to see if it is null.
How do you test getNamedItem for null to avoid this error?
EDIT: It appears that the problem is limited to Firefox. It works fine in IE7, but the error occurs in both FF v3.5.4 and in v3.5.5!
In my example below, there are no elements that match, so you should see an alert box that says 'No match', but (using Firebug) you will see that an error is generated when it tries to find the value of onchange in the last input tag.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1250">
I'm doing some simple tests and I can't get this to work on a wordpress site. Basically I'm trying to fadeOut a div with id of "box" when a link is clicked. I mentioned Wordpress because the head code is loaded dynamically into the page template, as well as the body content. I wasn't sure I this made a difference in diagnosing the problem. When I load the page, Firebug keeps giving an error... $('a') is null
Here is my stripped html code... <head> <script src="[URL]" type="text/javascript"></script> <style type="text/css"> #box {background-color: red; width: 300px; height: 300px;} </style> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('a').click(function() { $('#box').fadeOut(); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="box"> </div> <a href="#">Fade Out</a> </body>
here when i click the test button it will create a new test button inside div tag.But after that if i clicked new generated test button document.getElementById("test" ).onclick = function() is not working.how can i add functions to new dynamically created fields?
find a similar template on the web. I couldn't.A list of checkbox options:
1. Water 2. Sand 3. Red paint
Submit button which brings results IF Water and Sand selected, result = Mud IF Water and Red paint selected, result = Red water The closest thing I got to was[URL] How would code for such a program look like?
What's a good tool to create a regression test for JavaScript app?I could probably write a bookmarklet or something running from another frame, but I am hoping there is already existing tools for this.
I have a form and I need to validate a field against three rules:
1) The field need to be between 6 and 12 characters 2) It can only have letters, numbers, and the underscore 3) It cannot contain a space or other special characters
I want the validate to happen in real-time. I have the first rule working great. Here is the code for that:
I'm writing a form validation function and would like to verify that a field only contains alphanumeric characters. How should I structure that statement? the following seems logical but doesn't work;
I would like to create a html E-test form run on PC and the data will save into a file on disk. I search online for this function code but found that most the script only save the cookie, is it possible for javascript save form data to file? Here is the ideal for my survay form,

The .find() method does not seem to match on input fields by using a class. The ti This problem seems to be only visible on input fields. The following is a demonstration of the issue:
I am using the following script on an e-commerce site to ensure that not both drop downs cannot be selected at the same time, as well as ensuring one must be selected at all times.The problem with this code is that not all of my product pages have these 2 drop downs so I wanted to try and add in an if statement saying that if id2=9999 and id3 == null then pop up the error. That didnt work because I don't think it can be equal to null if it does not exist on the page. I tried to assign id3 a value of 99999 so that on pages that it doesnt get reassigned after (i.e pages it does not exist on) it will still be equal to 99999 and pop up the error according to the second if clause.Unfortunately that did not work either. Is there any other way I can do via javascript?
I'm using the standard module pattern and the problem is once you set a private variable, trying to test that object independently becomes a nightmare as the next test is polluted by the actions of the previous.So, the options are to have some reset method (which is horrible), setters on everything (defeats the point) or delete object and re-load script (hideous).
I want to create an associative array dynamically pulling the index values from an array (propertyArray); Associative array is created inside create function and then returned. But after it is returned, I cant use index names to retrieve values. It returns undefined as below code shows.
Code JavaScript:
var propertyArray=["a","b","c"]; function create(){ var array=[];
HAVE CLIENT-SIDE FORM COOKIE GET AND SET FUNCTIONS IN THE SECOND WINDOW DOCUMENT EXTERNAL JS.FILE OF A DUMY TEST SITE FOLDER ON MYCOMPUTER. IE8 THROWS 'SYNTAX ERROR' ON THE 'WINDOW.LOAD=FUNCTION, FIRST COOKIE FUNCTION HIGHLIGHTED'. CAN I ACTUALLY TEST COOKIES ON A TEST SITE ON MY COMPUTER WITHOUT THE SERVER (MYCOMPUTER) OR A DOMAIN NAME? function loadSecondaryNetworks() { var secondaryNetworks = new Array('13','14'); var select_list_field = document.getElementById('network'); var select_list_selected_index = select_list_field.selectedIndex; var value = select_list_field.options[select_list_selected_index].value; value = value.split('-'); [Code]...
this code is supposed to display and load a secondary drop down menu if a particular ID(13 OR 14) is selected from the first dropdown. it works fine for 14, but not for 13. the "test" alert displays for both 13 and 14, but the second drop down only appears when selecting ID 14. I changed my array to ('13','14','13') and then it worked for both 13 and 14. is there something i am not aware of?
I am new to learning JS and am trying to create an array through a prompt. It seems to work, but I believe it is treating the prompted numbers as strings not numbers.I am parsing the negatives and zeros, and positives and counting them. It doesn't recognize the negative sign.Here's my js:
function counter() { var numArr = new Array(Number(prompt("Please enter and array of numbers, in any order, separated by a comma..." + '[code]......
I've been wondering lately: is it possible to create an array of some html tags (let's say array of <div> or array of <p>)? Something which would allow me adding a new <div> or <p> to the array.
I am to make a small html webpage in which there are supposed to be 2 text areas: in the first are certain words (for example tomorrow, money etc.), and in the second one there is an input text (let's say "Tomorrow you must send me the money I need"). Javascript should do this: print the input text in a paragraph/div, highlighting the words mentioned above. Something like: Tomorrow you must send me the money I need. This is how I thought of the array of tags, which can at any time add a new word to the output paragraph, it's only to be chosen whether to highlight it or not.
I'm trying to create a multidimensional array (and it's my first time using one) as an easy-to-modify way of populating content into a cycling banner script. However I seem to be having issues with actually accessing the content in the array.So currently my array looks like so:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript"> var banner = new Array(); //Option 1
[code]...
But when I do a "document.write(banner[0]['title']);" in my body, it doesn't seem to want to oblige.
I have a list of about 70 servo's that I'd like to apply set properties too.As they all have the same property set but with different values I thought I'd try creating a servo object, the create an array of servo's but I don't think I'm getting anywhere fast.[code]...
Once this is done and I've got all the servo objects created with their properties, I'm hoping to be able to search for all servo's with a set property i.e all servo's with servo.application = 1 would that be possible, if not I geuss I'd be wasting all our time trying to create classes I can't use the way I'd like.
My problem is this: using Firefox I can manipulate the '<option>'s into select-fields so that I can draw icons near their values just using css. W3C doesn't allow using anything but "CDATA" into options...
The problem is that Internet Explorer doesn't respect any css directive to make the same. Is there a way of managing this by using javascript?
