How To Temp Vars Or File In Javascript For Other Pages?
Jul 23, 2005
We are downloading a few thousand rows of data for users to choose from
and need to speed up the operation. The data is related in four levels.
The current design allows the user to select the first level from about
20 choices and then the next level's choices are retrieved from the
server. This is taking about 4 seconds. We are required to make it
faster.
We need to be able to download all the data once and save it for use
any time this particular page is visited. The app is a support app and
the page will be used throughout the day. The obvious idea is to cache
it in a Java applet but we are not allowed to use applets. The other
idea is to embed it in JavaScript arrays but we have tried this and the
performance penalty is about the same and will be incurred on other
lookups on the page becuase the page reloads for these other lookups
(we are using WebLogic netui).
What we need is a cookie that is not submitted unless the page
explicitly sends it; that is, some data needs to be downloaded once per
session and remain in the browser memory/on the disk throughout the
session. It would be nice if we could write to a temp file or access a
heap - can we? Any ideas?

I want to load some pages generated with the server (ASP) and assign
their html results to JavaScript, so users could click the links and
the content of any selected page would show up immediately, making no
requests.
So, I have one main page called mainpage.asp which, I think, should
get all subpages with content, names are subpage1.asp, subpage2.asp,
etc. I tried ASP's XMLHttpRequest to get content of all sub pages and
assign html result to JavaScript variables. But I realized that MS
XMLHttpRequest does not get session protected pages. I mean that if my
subpage will generate output with session only, then even if the
session exists, MS XMLHttpRequest does not see it.
Anyway, this trick did not work. If I include these subpages in
mainpage.asp under a hidden field, this may be a solution but I do not
see it good enough yet.
What would you recommend? How would you assign subpage's html code to
JavaScript variables or array of variables?

I am trying to use Jquery as an XML tool to transform xml data other than the DOM.
This works very well and i can change my xml data.
Now i want back my whole xml that i just transform and this is where there is a problem !
$(xml).find('#id').html('some text').parent.parent.parent ... is not a good way
I read something about the defaultContext but it seems risky / hazardous.
Needed fonction would be $(xml).find('#id').html('some text').getRoot().html(); or something like that.

I have a master external CSS file for the styling of my website's pages.
I also want to incorporate a master javascript menu file that houses the left hand vertical menu bar for all my pages so that I can make changes to the menu in one location and have it instantly reflected across all pages.
Currently my menu is all standard html like the following:
This HTML is on every single page that has a menu and I want to move it to a master file where it is linked to each page - I don't want to use Server Side includes - this must be on the client side.
I was also thinking of putting the file in a jquery file and using $.get(). I'm not sure how the menu code would look in javascript or jquery - I am new to both.

I want to redirect all pages from one website to another. They will be permanent redirects, but I am looking for a way to make it look cool.
Is it possible (It does not HAVE to be a 301 redirect) that when someone goes to a page on the old website, they automatically go to the new website with a message explaining the transfer, and everything around the message goes grayscale until the user clicks ok...?

Does anyone know of a handy way to disable a user from downloading javascript when they save a page?
Here is my problem. I have javascript that disables right clicks on a page. However the user could just "save" the page to there desktop and remove the function that disables right clicks.
Anyone know of a good work around? I've heard of other complex ways, but I was looking for a simple solution.

I'm not sure what this is called, I think it's remote script execution, but I could be wrong, so bear with me.
I have a call that I make for an adserver:
<script src="http://www...."></script>
That populates the page at that point with some text. When it works, it works great, the text comes back, and everything is good. However, when the remote server does not return right away, or maybe the connection is down, my page hangs on it.
So my question is, is there a way to structure the call on my end so that my page continues loading even if this call doesn't return?

Has anyone tried sending web pages containing javascript to another user
also using Outlook Express?
Mine don't work on the other end - although I'm not sure if this is because
they don't have Javascript enabled in MS Explorer 6. I save the entire HTML file + script into my Stationery folder. Then I select Message/New Message Using [select stationery file]. Should it work? Say I sent this by email:
<html>
<head>
<script>
alert("Hi there!");
</script>
</head>
<body>
<p>Can you see the alert box? Let me know.</p>
</body>
</html>

I got an [object error] from IE 7.0.5730.11 when moving the <script
src="..." type="text/javascript" /tag from the <headpart to the
<bodysection of a HTML file.
Is not possibile to include Javascript code via <script src="..."
type="text/javascript" /from the <bodysection, instead from the
<headone? If yes, anyone has any idea of which the problem could be?
If not, how can I programmatically include a javascript external file
inside the <bodypart of a HTML file, for example, using Javascript
to some particular native functions?

I have a two fold question:1) Why would my while statement not be workingI have cleaned up my code a little (although not perfect) but my while statement is not behaving, it does not output any numbers on a console.debug (using google chrome, or any other browser for that matter) which from my understanding it should?and 2) Slightly out of the remit of this forum I suppose, but this code is quite lengthy and I know there are ways to make this more efficient I just dont know what they are?

This sends variables to the page okay (on a version without the onClick, opening a normal page).
Problem seems when onClick is added: where the # would normally be following the url to open the popup from colors.htm
PHP Code:
if ($row_results['Mcolor']> 2) {echo'<a href="http://www.mysite.com/colors.htm?UsrID='.$row_results['UsrID'].'" class="linebar" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('../s/shades.php','','status=yes,scrollbars=yes,width=620,height=450')">more</a>';}
Is there always a conflict between javascript and php when sending vars since javascript is client side and php is server side? Is there another way to size the opened page, for instance, on... /shades.php itself? - Only doing the popup for this reason.
Inserted this in head of the destination page; shades.php itself, but not as a function. Might there be a way to activate this when the page loads, without onClick of a button from prior page?:
Code:
<script>
windowresize.To(400, 600);
</script>

I am doing this project. It is a flash app that the final output will open a borwser window. The flash app will send vars in the URL, ex/invoice.html?num=1&blablabla=blabla). In the HTML doc there will be a template invoice that I need to replace some of the content (prices) with the sent GET / POST vars.
It all needs to be client side that's why I need someone's javascript help. the app needs to be able to run without internet or any server side processing. so I figured some javascript would work.
