View 2 RepliesI'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1
word2
word3
word4
word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..
I'm trying to load a text file into a variable and I know of the jquery load
$("div").load("file.txt");
but I want to be able to load it into a var, does anyone know how to do this?
I have a text file that contains a whole bunch of data points neatly formatted (it's basically a CSV file). I need to create a quick JS function that would load the CSV file (from a URL) and display it with in a page. No parsing is needed! I just need to suck down the file and insert/display it within two div tags.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been successfully using the following "myAjax" function to load text file information from the server.
ajax.js:
After I load the text file, I store the text "records" into an array by doing something like this:
Where the '}' character is my record delimiter. It could just as easily be ' ' or ' ' or the like.
Again, I am not having any problems doing it this way as it suits my current needs.
Now the question(s)
1. Does the call to read the text data from the external file always read in the entire contents or can I read one line or delimited record at a time and store it to the array directly without the text storage?
2. If the text is always read completely (my suspicion), can I safely delete the "TextInformation" after I convert to the array format? Is there any memory penalty for doing it this way as the text information can be somewhat lengthly and I don't like the idea of having doubled memory usage when I only need the information in array format anyway?
This is the idea I am considering, but I don't know if there are drawback to this method of if there is a better way to accomplish the task.
ajax.js:
I have some sample ajax code i have been toying around with.I have it updating & working properly, but you have to click a button first.How can I set it so that it automatically reads the contents of the text file on page load, and updates every 1000ms?I was trying onload=setinterval(JavaScript:xmlhttpPost("status.php"),1000)[code]
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some Javascript which says this:
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
Here is what I'm trying to do but the problem is "source.html" is not on a server somewhere. I am running everything locally. $('#container').load(source.html #sourceContent) Is there a way to do this exact thing but with a local file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanna send a file thru the JQuery.load, I want it to work exactly like the regular post without the JQuery. So I can check the $_FILES['file']['error'] in PHP and all its features like I do without using JQuery.
$("#load").load('gerenciar_itens.php',{/* This is where I wanna pass the file. */}, function(data){
alert(data);
});
I am looking for a way to select a file from a list and load it into a webpage. The page and the files are stored on a sd-card for off-line usage, I know that listing files remote dynamicly needs a scripting engine but since the sd-card is on the client side that is not possible, but I can make a list of those files when creating them.
It is intended for a datalogger on a tractor-puller, I create csv files with a bash script on the logger and for off-line viewing I use a javascript charting engine which loads the csv file, the files have the creation date as filename and I can make (and maintain) a list of files when creating them. The plan is that the we can select another data set (run) from within the browser and show that one. I have setup an example at [URL]
I have a .js file, we want to make it to load a html file right next to it, both files are on client system. I couldn't find any such examples and some posts talked about JavaScript security issues, I wonder if it is related to what I want.
Someone said .js file is not really JaveScript file, though Microsoft named it 'JavaScript'.
note that I am trying to "call" .html file from the .js file, not embed html code in .js.

I was trying to display a pdf file inside a HTML div and was using JQuery $('#divid').load(url) to load the file inside a div. While other HTML files are loading properly, i am facing problem loading a pdf file.
The content does not get rendered properly, i am not sure whether this load function is supposed to handle this, but is there any other way to load a pdf inside a div?
I thought I had this licked. How do I load a file with an onclick AND replace the current page with another page?
<span return true">
<img border="0" src="../img/ok.gif" width="30" height="30"></span>
I have a single webpage that contains information on all 50 U.S. states. There are 50 links at the top to jump down to the state you want, and at the bottom of the information for each state a Back to Top link.
I'm making the Back to Top link into something more complex, and it will require three or four lines of code.
So that I don't have to repeat the code 50 times, and create a burden when I need to edit it, I want to place it in a .js file and call it x. Then below the information for each state I'll simply have:
Does calling code from a .js file 50 times slow down the page load? Which method would load faster?
The code below is supposed to load an XML file for use in a table. It doesn't work because of one command:
table.insertRow command:
I wondered how a module or article can detect if a javascript module is already loaded?
Does the browser check the cache (the same as for images) and so it doesn't matter?
$("#content").load("code.php");
code.php is: echo '<div id="1"></div>';
How could i use jquery functionson the loaded div tag #1?
I'm trying to load a php file (load.php) into a div (<div id="randomdiv"></div>) I'm not sure if i show be using .load [URL] or if im doing it right however i'm trying this:
<script>
$('#randomdiv').load('load.php');
</script>
then in index.php i've this:
<div id="randomdiv"></div>
basically what i'm trying to do is display a file into a div (soon as the page loads), and then use .load to refresh that div without having to refresh the pageevery time.
<script>
$(function() {
$("#refresh").click(function(evt) {
[code]....
so I have a index.php that makes a variable called number and sets it equal to zero, then it echo's the html code for the page, at a point in that code there is a line that uses that variable
<div id="number"> You have completed {$number} actions.</div> There is also a submit button on the page that runs send.php. In send.php it takes the info from forms that were filled in on index.php and does a loop with them. Now what i want is in the loop it adds 1 to number(already have it doing that) then update the number in the above code. I hve been told by numerous people that jquery/ajax can be used for this but I can not figure it out.
I have several js files to include in Hml so was thinking if there is any way that i can includes all the files in one file and then include that file in the main html file so that i don't need to chnage the main file again and again
How can i do that just like we use import in css

My problem is outlined here:- [url]
I'm trying to load a js file dynamically when a page load. Below i given the code what i'm using. code...
HEre the problem is the script file is not loading. After the alert message (which i commented on above code )it is working fine. I tried to given wait time more than 10 second even though its not loading.
But after giving the alert box, its working.
Can anybody say the reason why its happening like this.
I have on my apache server some html/javascript pages. I put a lot of javascript code inside a .js file, that I load by the command:
<script language=JavaScript src="file.js"></script>
If the client is a normal PC with IE5.5 no problem...
The problem is when the client if a pocket PC with Pocket Internet Explorer. (I tried it with the emulator always on PC). In that case it seems that the .js file is totally ignored.
For me is very important to use a .js file, because the my target is to hold it on the cache of the client, so to avoid to download every time a lot of javascript code.
My external file linking is not working, following is the code. the .js file is in the same folder as my html page. Been working on it for over 2hours wihtout any success.
It says ['Circle' is undefined]
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
</head>
<script LANGUAGE="Javascript1.2" type="JavaScript1.2" src="circle.js"></script>
<script language="javascript1.2">
<!--
function runTest() {
// alert('entered1');
var c = new Circle(1.0);
// var c=[new Circle(1.0), new Circle(2.0)];
}
// -->
</script>
<body
hi
</body>
</html>
circus.js
function Circle(radius)
{
this.r=radius;
}
