I have many pages on my website which contains text which needs changing quite often, for example, a date (12th/06/2005). Is there anyway of inserting a code into each of these pages which recalls the text from a .js file.
I want to make the date at the top right darker blue. But when I do that, all the light blue text next to the pictures also changes.
How can I control the color of the result of document.write output without changing the forground color of the entire page? Note my document write includes variables, so I was hesitant to imbed an html command in the document.write.
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
I'm try to set up a webpge that will play a live flash video on the left-hand side(got that part working) and display one slide of a presentation(jpg) to the right of the video. I would like to be able to control when the slide image changes by having some js check a text file on my server. The text file could contain something as simple as "Slide1.jpg". I will manipulate the text file with some code I've already written. Is there some simple js code I can put in my page that will cause it to check the text file every 5 seconds, and if the content of the file has changed, to refresh the image on the page with the new image? I'm try to get away from the "clicking" sound that is caused by doing a simple refresh of an Iframe.
I am currently working on an announcements portlet for a dashboard that my team is creating. What is desired is to be able to have this portlet access a stored text file (file can be edited so content is subject to change) that will have all the information needed for these announcements. The JavaScript will then write it into a html file. I am a novice at html, and javascript;
I have a folder "A" with 10 files, all with .txt extensions in it. I want a java script to open all the 10 files in the folder "A" and change the extensions to .js and save it in a folder "B".
I am using as a dropin. It drops in when the page loads and I would like it to only drop in if a visitor clicks a link I designate as the dropin link. Can someone please tell me how to accomplish this? I am pasting in the js file and I will also need to know how to set up the "a href" link to call the dropin!
Code:
// JavaScript Document var ie=document.all var dom=document.getElementById

I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1 word2 word3 word4 word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..
Is it possible to convert a document file to an image using javascript? Anyone ever tried it? Please suggest any codes for it because I've done my research and I see it only working for php, java and other languages.
Is it possible to change a document structure definitely using JQuery ? I used .html() but after refreshing the page the changes I've done disappeared and were replaced by the default contents
based on selection of radio button, i want to change the text box to enable and disable. And additionally, how to set if i enter a value in textbox1 then calculating something and display the result in textbox2 that to on key up.. not on form submitting.
The actual list is much longer and varies in length. What I am attempting to do is when a user opens the page, if a line contains Locked or Disabled, change the color of those words (or the whole line that contains them) to red.
So I didn't know whether to put this in HTML & CSS or here. So I'm just going to put it here and the mods can move it if needed. So I had this script working for auto width of a DIV, then I added DOCTYPE to the top of my document, now it won't change the width ha ha. I have tried with all DOCTYPE's and same thing. The JS I am using is:
depending on the partial content (domain) of the url, the links in the page must go to one domain/port or another. I've code that works well in IE but not in FF.
I think the problem is I'm putting the new url using
in FF the operation document.url = newurl; does nothing, the same in IE goes to the page.
Other idea for going to a page formatted in js? ?self.url? one variable that works in all browser? or different variables for each browser and code to differentiate?
When I send a form from html to a function in javascript via a button I want to write the values of the html form on the screen. I do so by using the document.write() in javascript. This removes the page with the html form (input boxes etc) and then the only thing displayed is the stuff written by javascript. And the font family I had in the html part is now gone! Only problem is that I want to change the font family (like Times New Roman, Arial Black etc). I have very many document.write()'s, so would be swell if there were something that made me change the entire script's font family!
I'm a real newbie with Javascript, but I'm having fun. I just bought the book, "Simply Javascript" (have only just cracked it so far). I'm reasonably familiar with PHP (I use a lot of it to do simple things). I'm a Web desinger and do custom CSS Websites (I'm fairly new to that too couple of years or more working with CSS and I've never done a table based layout.

But when the button is clicked, nothing will call the showCaption() function again, and I can't figure out how to call that function as the images advance. I have tried a lot of things with a lot of weird results, one being the tne next caption will display in a blank browser window, without the Webpage! I'm not sure why that happens, but I have a clue.
Is there an easier way to do what I want to do? I only want to show a few lines of text that will describe each image. Seems simple enough to me, but I'm just too new to make it work.
I am not very familiar with AJax, and for simplicity sake, I am trying a simple code. When I click the text box it should change the text and display "hello there", but it did not change. Is there something wrong with the code? I know this can be done with out using AJAX, but I want to test AJAX.page1.php
PHP Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
I need to be able to use jQuery's load function to grab the contents of an external file and append them to a particular DOM element. The problem is that when that external file includes scripts that contain calls to document.write, I get weird behavior that changes depending on which browser I'm using. If I'm using Internet Explorer, the load function gets all of the non-script elements from the external page and correctly appends them into the DOM element. Of course, this is not ideal because it ignores the scripts. If I'm using Firefox or Safari, the load function runs the scripts but the document.write output overrides the entirety of the calling page. Thus, I end up with a page that now only contains the document.write output instead of a page that includes the original HTML plus the document.write output as a child of a DOM element.
My change function allows users to switch from country to country and get different text and features. It works when changing country selections. But at initial page load, it does not fire jQuery change to set the text for the default / initial country. When I change away and then back to the default/initial country, change fires and shows the proper information and features. I have tried document.ready with a change function both inside the switch selections and outside the change function. Neither work - they don't fire the hide, show and other jQuery in the switch cases at doc ready. Its not clear to me what function will fire the jQuery change function at doc ready. Here's the code. The country selection below is just 2 countries to keep it simple, but actually, there are many.
I have a folder of images from which I access individual pictures using the ID[Who] variable index passed down from the parent frame plus a local index variable p.
where an example file in Photos is PhotosAndiamo1.jpg, the ID in this case resolving to "Andiamo" and the local variable is = 1. This works great.
I would like to add a file of text captions associated with the pictures, preferably saved in the Photos folder such as PhotoAndiamo1.txt.
While I can fetch the images easily by document.writeing the <img ....> command, how do I do a similar fetch for the text data and document.write it to the HTML? (Short of the hassle of creating text images and fetching those.)
where you can change all of the page's background attributes..I was wondering if there was a similar one for font so that I can change the face, size, and color of all font on the page at once (when the page loads)I want this code in javascript because I want the font style and the background color in my page generated instead of fixed
I am trying to learn SVG and I have alot of the basics including javascript manipulation. But I am really stuck on trying to manipulate the actual text itself.
I am trying to change the text "OMG" to say something else when you hover over it. For example: It says OMG, I want to hover over the text and have it change to WTF. Like you could do with innerHTML. anybody have any experience with SVG
I'm trying find a text in all document with jQuery, for example: It searches the text with % in front, and then adds a tag "a" after the text. <body> %ilovejquery <div id="im>%ilovejquery</div> <p>%ilovejquery</p> </body>
In addition to seeking the text, I wanted to add a link around each. Example: <body> %<a href="#">ilovejquery</a> <div id="im">%<a href="#"> ilovejquery</a></div> <p>%<a href="#"> ilovejquery</a></p> </body> </body> I think with REGEX is avaliable and $.each method.
