Document File To Image Conversion?
Oct 5, 2011
Is it possible to convert a document file to an image using javascript? Anyone ever tried it? Please suggest any codes for it because I've done my research and I see it only working for php, java and other languages.

Im trying to have a click event that replaces an image on the page with a new image that has been selected randomly from an array. I have solved PART of this already (can get the random image to appear).
However, instead of appearing on the page where the old image was, the new image appears in a blank page.
My research indicates that this blank page location-problem is a result of using document.write in the Function. Therefore, I know I need to find a different way to accomplish this, but am failing miserably.
I have been trying for hours and hours and HOURS to figure out proper syntax for accomplishing this via elements, functions, variables and mootools.
A bit of my research:

I need to be able to use jQuery's load function to grab the contents of an external file and append them to a particular DOM element. The problem is that when that external file includes scripts that contain calls to document.write, I get weird behavior that changes depending on which browser I'm using.If I'm using Internet Explorer, the load function gets all of the non-script elements from the external page and correctly appends them into the DOM element. Of course, this is not ideal because it ignores the scripts.If I'm using Firefox or Safari, the load function runs the scripts but the document.write output overrides the entirety of the calling page.Thus, I end up with a page that now only contains the document.write output instead of a page that includes the original HTML plus the document.write output as a child of a DOM element.

Is it possible to dynamically add an image to a document using document.write? I've been playing around with it and I'm able to add the image tag, but the image is not being displayed. I'm only getting the place holder. The path to the image is correct and it does exist. Is there something special that must be done? I have tried doubling the slashes on the off chance that that was the problem.

I have a string that I'm properly URL-encoding to be passed in a URL.
Here's the tag from the HTML source:
<A HREF="javascript:openPopWin('takeit.php?568&10&dr.+hobo%27s+scalpel',
325, 325, 'scrollbars')">
But when I mouse-over the link, the %27 shows in the status bar as a ' and
when I click on it, I get a JS error because of the extraneous '. The +s
are not being decoded - why is this one character, and is there a way to
prevent it?

I have a string that is encoded simply by replacing the letter with the
next letter in the alphabeta. I need a function to convert it back.
Following is the function:
function cnvtBack(encoded)
{
var orig = "";
for (i=0; i < encoded.length; i++)
{
var letter = "";
letter = encoded.charAt(i);
if (letter > 'a' && letter <= 'z')
letter = <<previous letter in alphabeta >> // HOW?
orig += letter;
}
}

I want to create an animated gif that is shown during the content of my page is loading - in order to do so, I created 2 div-containers one with an id of loadingbar (default: display:block and including my img src....) and the other with an id of main_cont(default:display:none and including my content which consists out of some huge images for testing purpose)
so I thought all the magic would be:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('div#loadingbar').css('display', 'none');
$('div#main_cont').css('display', 'block');
});
but unfortunatly nothing works - it is just showing how the images get loaded, but my animated loading-gif is not shown anytime...
how do I get such stuff working - I thought on document ready means that it is executed AFTER all of the content is downloaded??

I have a code which allows a set few images to be used in a slide-show type style for switching the documents background image which displays a set few images which are declared in an object array.
Basicly I have it all working perfectly with a "Timer" object value so you can set your own display length per picture but what I can't seem to do is make a cross-browser image fade transaction which works for background images, Here is the code
ORIGINSlide.js

so my professor suddenly took a left turn in class and we jumped from using HTML and CSS to programing in Javascript. It's not even covered in the book we're using for a text book. So I'm having some problems with it (big surprise right?) My assignment: Write a Java Script that will print out the Temperature in Celcius from 0 to 35, AND the corrosponding temperature in Fahrenheit. So basically it would generate the following:
0 Degrees in Celcius is Equivalent to 5 Degrees Fahrenheit
1 Degrees in Celcius is Equivalent to 6.125 Degrees Fahrenheit
2 Degrees in Celcius is Equivalent to 7.25 Degrees Fahrenheit
3 Degrees in Celcius is Equivalent to 8.375 Degrees Fahrenheit and all the way down to 35 degrees.
Here's the code I have so far:

I have a site that is built with a frameset. What I would like to do is whenever I update a particular frame that contains the main content (ie. a news.html page), have it change a graphic in the navigation bar (ie. a separate .html document) to a glowing animated gif for 7 days. Since the news page doesn't load as the first page within the frameset, it would show that there was something new posted there.
I have a few JavaScript books around, and I -think- I know roughly what needs to be done, but I'm having trouble conjugating scripts.
I think it could be done by checking the date.lastModified against the current date, and if the abs difference was less than 7 days it would display news-anim.gif, else it would display news.gif - however I am not sure how to get the left navframe.html to read the date modified of news.html
Can anyone suggest any solutions (or know of any scripts out there?) or is this more of an issue that should be dealt with using cookies/something else?

I ran into this issue yesterday, and no matter what I try I can't seem to get it work correctly.
I need to parse out single quotes from a field, and replace them with double quotes, so it doesn't blow up later, like it did yesterday.
I've tried using regex, but I'm sure its not the correct syntax.
javascript Code:
document.all.SalesOrderForm.ShipNote1.value = document.all.SalesOrderForm.ShipNote1.value.replace(/'/g,""");
document.all.SalesOrderForm.ShipNote1.value = document.all.SalesOrderForm.ShipNote1.value.replace(/'/g,""");

Im need to create a conversion-script for a company that do step-competitions. You should be able to input a time-variable, choose what activity you did from a drop-down meny, click convert ("omvandla" in swedish") and the script prints what that is equal to in steps. I found a code online that does other conversion so i just redid that code to fit my demands. Everything looks alright in the browser, but the script doesnt print anything when i click "omvandla". Forgive me for posting the entire code, which is pretty long. But most of the code is just repetition, cause you have 58 types of activities to choose from.
Some words are in swedish, but the only two i think you need to understand is:

i've found out how to find the distance between 2 lat lng points using google's distanceFrom method:
Code:
// NR14 7PZ
var loc1 = new GLatLng(52.5773139, 1.3712427);
// NR32 1TB
var loc2 = new GLatLng(52.4788314, 1.7577444);
alert(loc2.distanceFrom(loc1) / 1000);
However, I'd like to be able to convert a distance to lat lng. The main reason I'm doing this is so that I can figure out the bounds of a certain area of a co-ordinate. For example I specify a point, and then I need to draw a box around this area going x distance North, South, East and West, but until I know how many units make up a kilometre this wont be easy.
I guess I could go to google maps, click on a point and then click on another point and keep doing that until I get exactly 1km away from the original point, then just minus or plus for the lat and lng to find out the unit value for 1km, but I have a feeling that this wont be accurate. Can anyone lend any advice, I realize that what I'm asking is more a map question than a google maps javascript api question, but perhaps someone has come across this before?
