Hide/display Not Working In IE?

Jun 2, 2009

I've adapted a simple script for a dynamic form using hide/display so users can answer some questions and depending on their replies they are shown a different result at the end.The problem is when I tested it in IE8 because I don't use it much I have default settings which are not allowing scripts, so it basically doesn't work! Nothing is hidden. If I click on the yellow bar to allow the script it will work, but I don't know that I should rely on users doing that.

Is there a different sort of form I could use? If so please point me in the right direction. I have limited javascript knowledge so I need a script I can adapt rather than writing from scratch. My code is like this.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" >[code].........

Using Form/function To Hide And Display <divs>

Jul 31, 2009

I have two left floated divs - in the left div I want a series of drop downs (possibly check boxes as well) about a series of products. When the user makes their decision and presses submit, I want the form to submit to a javascript function that says "Right, you will need, from your responses, product C" and in the right hand floated div, a series of hidden product info divs whose visibility is changed depending on which product the function determines is the one for you.

Broken down into parts I think I need to do the following:

a) Standard HTML form with drop downs etc and submit

b) Hidden divs

c) Submission process locally to javascript function to determine which product to show/hide

d) Javascript function that makes the decision

e) Javascript that hides/shows products

Unfortunately a server side option is not available; it has to be a client side solution and I only could think of javascript. I can probably handle all bar c) and d)

Display/Hide DIV Based On Radio Button Input?

Dec 1, 2009

I'm fairly new to Javascript and would be grateful for any help you can give me. I've had a search on Google and found a couple of potential solutions but nothing seems to work quite right for what I need.

Basically I have a form with several questions followed by Yes/No radio buttons. Dependent on which answer is given, I want to display a different message above the text box.

For example, if you answered 'no' to a certain question then the message above the text box would change to say "Please fill in additional information" or something along those lines.

Hide Or Display Form Field When Page Loaded?

Jul 6, 2011

I have a form with three fields. When the user changes the value of field1, the form displays either field2 or field3. This works fine for NEW records. However, I'm running into a problem when trying to EDIT an existing record. When the form is loaded, I need to test the value of field1 and display either field2 or field3. I've tried using the form onload event, but do not know how to access the value of field1.I'm using Javascript and div tags. This is what I have so far.

<script type="text/javascript">
function hide(obj)
obj1 = document.getElementById(obj);

Javascript Code To Hide/display Entry Fields On A Form

Jul 23, 2005

I am looking for a general purpose javascript snippet that enables me to
<div> or <span> HTML to make portions of the form be hidden and then appear.
The form contains about 12 sections and some sections can contain
subsections. When the user clicks on a checkbox, I want previously hidden
text boxes, radio buttons, text, drop down menus, and additional checkboxes
to appear. In some cases, clicking on a checkbox in a section can cause
additional previously hidden text boxes, radio buttons, text, drop down
menus, and additional checkboxes to appear.

Within each section, a list of individual names is displayed with an initial
checkbox beside each name being displayed. Clicking the checkbox beside a
name is what triggers the hidden info to be displayed. The server side
application is written in php and the field names are assigned using
brackets as the array is created. As an example the HTML checkbox beside
the first name <input type='checkbox' name='sect1custname[1]' value'First
Name'> The HTML for the next name woud be exactly the same except the name
field would be defined as name='sect1custname[2]'. All of the other input
buttons, boxes, menus, and text would use the same naming conventions so
that the server side module can correctly process the data.

I am hoping to keep this as generic as possible so that we can add, change,
and/or delete entire sections simply by creating the appropriate HTML and
surrounding it with the correct <div> or <span>. I understand that there
may need to be some javascript wrapped around the checkboxes.

If you know of , or have, or can develop the code, please send particulars
to jscott4272 at comcast dot net. If there are any costs associated with
the code, just let me know what they are. If you have any questions or need
additional information, please email them to me.

JQuery :: Hide Not Working On FF?

Aug 17, 2009

I was always told that jQuery worked just fine on both navigators, but Im started to think its not like that. Im doing a form, divided in 3 divs, each of them has 3 questions. You can only see 3 questions at a time and once you filled a set of 3 questions that div hides, and the next one appears, you fill correctly the 2nd one, it dissappears and it appears the last div. Well that's what happens in IE, but not on FF. Apparently FF doesnt like to Hide divs in a form. Could you confirm this?Do you have any other idea?

Show/hide Only Working On One Of Three Popups?

Mar 5, 2011

I am trying to track down an issue with some content in a couple of popups generated with j-query. If you go to [URL] and role over and click on ethiopia on the African continent, you will get a map that pops up. On the map you will see one or more flags. If you click on them another popup will be generated and it has tabs at the top. Clicking on these shows or hides certain content. If you do the same thing for say India or Nepal, it all works except the tabs at the top. They do nothing. I have compared the code to the ethiopia code and it should be the same. I have tried naming the content areas uniquely although I do not think that should make a difference in this case.
