Frame Load Order Trick Fails With Refresh

Jul 23, 2005

I'm using the 'standard' trick to force the load order of my frames:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Frametest master page</TITLE>
<SCRIPT Language="Javascript">
function refreshFrame() {
frames['vFrame'].window.location.href = "VisibleFrame.htm"; }
</SCRIPT>
</HEAD>
<FRAMESET COLS="100%,0" BORDER="0"
<FRAME SRC="blank.htm" NAME="vFrame">
<FRAME SRC="HiddenFrame.htm" NAME="hFrame">
</FRAMESET>
</HTML>

but this does not work when the user hits F5 (refresh). I want this specific load order because VisibleFrame.htm accesses objects in HiddenFrame.htm.

Body Onload Doesn't Fire If Frame Load Fails.

Jul 20, 2005

I have an frame in one of my documents (not a frameset document). The top
level document has an "onload" handler in the BODY tag. I have found that
if the frame is unable to navigate to the document it desires, the top
level document "onload" handler does not fire, and therefore important
Javascript function I need called is not called.

The frame document's URL belongs to a service which is not always available,
and when it isn't available, a 404 error results in the frame and ends up
neutering the top level document body onload handler.

I can deal with the 404 error, but is there some way to ensure that the top
level document's body onload handler fires?

Update Order Form Without Page Refresh Modification

Feb 4, 2010

[URL]. I looked at this script and I tried playing around with it but could not figure out how to: Instead of having a check box field and then a radio box field, have 2 radio box fields, so the user picks from one group of radio boxes and then another. Then change the math behind it so the values in the first field are multiplied by 100 and then the values in the second field tack on a percentage (ex value in first field is 1.5 so 1.5x100 = 150 and value in second field is .5 so total is 225).

How To Refresh Whole Frameset From The Frame

Jan 24, 2010

I'm having difficulty trying to refresh the whole frameset from a hyperlink on one of the frames. I've searched google and tried many options, about 6 or 7 codes, but failed. This is among one of which i tried:

<a href="#" onClick="opener.top.location.reload()">Homepage</a>

Very briefly, what i need to do is to refresh the entire frameset - the effect which can be obtained by pressing on the RELOAD button on the internet browser.This is how the frame looks like:

Code:

<html>
<head>
<title>Client</title>

[code]....

I am trying to refresh this entire frame using a link on the left frame, left.php.

Document.location.reload(true) Vs Regular Refresh - Reload The Frame

Nov 17, 2010

Is there a difference between right clicking an iframe and reloading post reponse vs. using javascript to reload the frame? So far, the javascript route hasn't worked for me. [some context] I am writing a little bookmarklet to help me with the online registrations at my school. Here is the setup.

Load up a page on the domain. Remove all body elements. Insert an iframe. Set iframe to page for class roster search. (in iframe on school search page) Select class search options, POST the form data, and view results in frame. *This works perfectly, but I need to have it refresh results every minute or so. When I use frame.contentDocument.location.reload(true); the frame loses the post data or something and the page is broken. BUT when I just right click on the frame and select "reload frame" it works perfectly. What is the difference between rightclicking the frame and refreshing it like that vs. using javascript to reload the frame?

A Handy Trick I Discovered For Closing Popups

Nov 21, 2006

I was looking for a way to have a popup window appear when someone left
my page, but not have it appear when they hit the refresh or back
buttons on the browser. Since using onUnload="..." in the body tag
causes the window to appear when you hit the refresh or back buttons,
that didn't do what I wanted.

After doing Google searches for many days I never did find an answer
for how to do this. I thought I could have each page open the popup
onUnload, but then also have each page close the window onLoad, so the
window only stays visible if you actually exit from my whole website.
The problem is, I didn't have the handle to the window object in the
page that wanted to close the window. I tried passing the handle in a
cookie, but that didn't work either.

My solution, which I haven't seen anywhere else before, works like
this:

Every page (they are php) includes the same header which has this code
in it:

var exit = true;
<?php
$popstuff = file_get_contents("_popstuff.txt");
$values = explode("|",$popstuff);
$usepop = $values[0];
if ($usepop!="on") {
echo("exit = false;
"); // turn off popup window
}
?>
function offerWindow() {
if ( exit ) {
offerPop=window.open('_offer.php',
'offer','width=425,height=298,resizable=0,toolbar= 0,location=0,directories=0,status=0,menubar=0,scro llbars=0');
offerPop.blur();
window.focus();
}
}
function noExit() {
exit = false;
}
function closeOffer() {
offerPop=window.open('_offer.php',
'offer','width=0,height=0,resizable=0,toolbar=0,lo cation=0,directories=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollba rs=0');
offerPop.close();
}
// End -->
</script>
</head>
<body onUnload="offerWindow();" onLoad="closeOffer();">

Now what happens is if you leave the page it opens the popup, but
before you even get to see it, the next page closes it (by window name
instead of by handle). If you close the browser, or leave the whole web
page then the popup remains. If there is a path you wish to take out of
the site that does not show the popup then just include
onClick="noExit()" to the link and it turns off the popup. Normally the
links that go from page to page within the website will all include the
"noExit()" call so the popup never even shows up. But the problem where
the popup shows up on browser refresh or back buttons just goes away.
