Form Value Text Color Validation
Jan 24, 2007
What I have right now is when someone hits submit,text appears next to the textarea that says..Please enter an email..That all works fine,but what I would like to do is have the value that I have in the textfield,that has a text style applied from my style sheet(now grey) to turn red,maybe if I made another style inside the CSS file which would be for red text.
Would that be possible? to have one style in the css file,change to another with the javascript?
Here's the validation part of my javascript code

I'm having trouble changing the font color of my labels ONLY when I stop the form from submitting due to blank fields. I'm not sure whether if just changing my CSS will achieve what I want, or am I going to have to add somethig to my if else statement, or both? I would think I would need to change CSS to :
label.onfocus {
color:red;
}
but a little confused on what else.

Is there code to just underline linked text to a certain color (red) but doesn't change the text color (it was white & when hovered over, it still stays white with a red underline)?

I'm trying to change the value in a text field to red for the validation. (It's one of those forms with an intial value in the text field which is currently got a style attached to it. If they fail validation, by not having anything in the text field, I would like the initial value to turn red from a style in the style sheet.
Here's a bit of my code for the form: *NOTE=the onblur is to make the intial value dissapear on click in the field. Code:

I want to make the date at the top right darker blue. But when I do that, all the light blue text next to the pictures also changes.
How can I control the color of the result of document.write output without changing the forground color of the entire page? Note my document write includes variables, so I was hesitant to imbed an html command in the document.write.

Is there a way of trimming the value before checking it so that a space for example would still be NULL "".
Code:
if(document.sendmail.emailsubject.value == '')
{
msg += "Subject cannot be left blank.
";
error = true;
}

I have this markup:
[Code]...
There are two radio buttons, sometimes one will be disabled, other times the other will be disabled. I would like to make a script that: First: Changes the color of surrounding text of the disabled radio button to the color grey. Second: Checks the other radio button.
This was my plan: I would make a script that: First: Removes all the current classes and add the class "greyed_out" (or better: change only the color of) the parent element, all siblings and children of siblings (if any) of the radio button that is disabled at that time.Second: Sets the attribute "checked to the other radio button". I made a script, but when I set the bottom radio button to disabled the script doesn't work:

I have written a form in HTML which contains username,lastname,email,password and submit.I have written a javascript to validate this form [validate(username,lastname,,password)].On submit this javascript function will be called and hence form get validated. I am passing all the arguements(username,lastname,email and password) to the javascript function..Is it possible to make me a code such that it should call an individual function for each field in the form.for ex:if i have not entered username, last name in the form and attempt to submit, only username arguement should be passed to the function as it comes first in the form.In other sense i want to validate individual text field validation of my form.

so I have a html page with the following code included in it:
[Code]....
how would I reference the contents of the text box in a separate Javascript file? I have tried document.form.UserInfo.value and many, many variations and just can't get it to work. I presume it has something to do with the paragraph having the same name?

I have a script which uses a colorpicker in which the user can select a color, and in the preview section the color of one div is changed to this color value. This is done by a javascript function of the color picker. called setcolor. The code for this function is given below:
function setColor(color) {
var inp = document.getElementById("pageSurround");
inp.style.backgroundColor = color;
}
Now I want that the value 'color'(used above to set bg color for the element 'pageSurround') is passed to a form variable named 'in_backgroundColor'(the color picker is being invoked in a PHP Script) so that this value can be stored in the database. How should this be coded.

I have a form set up and I need to set the validation so if one option is selected from a picklist, they need to complete a text field as well.
This is the code i'm using:
Code:
Reason is a picklist, I want it to show the alert when option 1 from the picklist is selected and no text is in the Row_Number field.
If any of the other options are selected, I want to make sure the Row_Number field is blank.
As I said, I'm sure this is a very simple thing, but I been working on it for ages, and cannot get it to work, I get the alert every time the Row_Number field is blank.

Here is my example:
<html>
<a id="validate_this1" href="othersite/file.exe">
<a id="validate_this2" href="filesite/file.exe">
<a id="validate_this3" href="downladsite/file.exe">
<html>
Javascript Part:
If (website link){set id text-color : bright green;
} else {
set id text-color : dark grey;
}
So if the link validates and is a real link, then change color to green, and if it doesnt change color to grey.

I have a form with multiple fieldsets which are visible conditionally. There are three submit buttons "Abandon", "Save" and "Save & Continue". Each button should validate specific controls of the form and submit it. I tried setting "onsubmit: false" and checking for "$('#myForm').valid ()" on click of these buttons., but that validates all controls of the form.

I'm using the Validation plugin for JQuery and was wondering if there was a function to submit the form without causing it to validate the form. I have a table with a list of radio-buttons and above that is a drop down list of states. The drop down list of states is used to filter the table rows and when the selected item changes it posts-back to the server (via $("#frm").submit()). I don't want this to cause any validation to occur. Is there another function I can call besides submit(), or some other method?

I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it.
The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem.
I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs.
<problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again.

So I'm trying to change the background color of a textbox depending on how many characters are enter (putting it green/red depending on count), and I'm having a hell of a time. There are 50 different textbox IDs on the page (give or take, dynamically generated), each unique/sequentially numbered (id1, id2 ... id50).Now I'm not that good with Javascript, but this is what I can up with so far.I was trying to use 'this.id' so I wouldn't have to name each of the IDs.
