JQuery :: Serialize And IE 7 And 8 - Returns An Empty String
Dec 21, 2011I have a form with an id "modClassForm" when I try:$("#modClassForm").serialize() it returns an empty string ("") When I get the action attribute it's right so it is the form I was expecting. When I do the following:
$("#modClassForm input").val()
it returns "retret" (the contents of the input element in that form). So what is doing this? The only thing I can think of is that this form is loaded from ajax and then placed in the page using the .html(htmlString) method which is rather core to my design. This works in a whole lot of other browsers (IE 9, FF 6-8, Chrome 13-15 and Safari 5). So I know I could try to serialize the fields myself, but the form content has two modes and I'd have to construct a fairly large string and I'm not sure about encoding. Is there any other way to make serialize work? Some way to get it to recognize the contents of the form?

JQuery :: Serialize Does Not Serialize In Elements Other Than Forms
Dec 6, 2011.serialize() does not descend into anything other than a form to find inputs, and so to serialize inputs that are not in a form you must specify a selector that grabs each input. I just want to make sure I haven't erred.

Force Users To Fill Out Input Fields Before Clicking Submit?
Jun 14, 2011I am setting up a form to enter a chat queue on my website for work. The form script comes from the company we are using to host the chat, but the problem is that customers don't have to fill out anything to enter the queue. I want the users to have to fill out 3 of the 5 fields before they are able to click the sumbit button. I've found a few scripts on the web that looked they like would work, but they were all for radio selections, and I don't have enough javascript knowledge to switch the correct parameters to work with input.
This is the script I am using;

I don't care if the button is not available until they are filled or a popup that asks for them to be filled out, just so long as they can't enter chat without us knowing their name and whatnot. From what I understand, the bulk of the form script needs to stay the same so it directs to us and not another company.

The problem is it works only for the passwd, but not for the usrname, meaning when the username is empty it shows the message as i wanted but right after showing the notification, it is going to the action page. Since it is returning false, it is not supposed to proceed. For passwd, it is fine, it shows the warning and stops without proceeding action.jsp.

Things I am trying to Do:
- Check if email field isn't empty and check if the anexo field isn't empty. Actually I would like to have it separeted but I dunno how to do this.
- If email and anexo isn't empty run the change button part of the code, witch will change the submit button for a progressbar.gif image. Actually this part of the code works great but without the field validation above.

Oct 23, 2011I have a CMS website that has a pop up upload panel that you use to upload a file into the website. It has a location field which you press browse to locate a file on your computer and then the field will be filled with the pathway to that file and it has an upload button.You locate the first file, press upload, and then the upload panel closes. You then try to upload following files, when the upload panel opens, it has the pathway of the old uploaded file in the location field. This can become very annoying having to manually delete it each time.What I would like to do is whenever the upload panel is opened, that the field will be empty.

Oct 21, 2010I am using the validate plugin with the defaultvalue plugin (empty fields given a default value and class of empty), and would like to use it together with the validator plugin. Is there a way to mark required fields with only the default value (and class empty) as invalid on submit?
E.g.: First_name field is required by validate, has a default value of "Enter your first name" and class of "empty" - how can I get the validator to mark this as invalid?

Pass Non-mandatory Fields Onsubmit Even If Empty (or Tabs Or Blank Spaces)?
Mar 26, 2010I would like to passwith the help of javascript empty non-mandatory fields to my perl script (and replace them with a custom value). The form mailer script only passes the mandatory fields. When non mandatory fields are filled , these are added to the list of passed field values, otherwise the list includes only the mandatory ones. I'd like to pass all values even the empty ones so that the person receiving the submitted data via email can easily export them to a database via a macro written by somebody else. Another requirement from client: The predefined values must not show up in the form fields when loading the page with the form.
How can I check for empty values as well as for tabs or blank spaces and replace each of these fields with a value = "not available"? I tried to do solve this for empty fields (no tabs, no blank spaces) but my solution does not work properly. It requires me to click the submit button 3 times before the form is submitted (because with every click the "not available" value is added in each empty field.

The problem is is that the display is not updated during the interval function, and so, the fade is not displayed; the new image just appears- no fade. 1)read the first line in the textbox and load it into contact person field.
2)find the @ symbol and put it into the respective field and if there are more than 1 mail id load it into the same feild using commas.
3)if the phone no is 10 digits then load it into the mobile field else load the rest it into phone field.
4)find for words like road,street,block,stage,floor etc,if present then load it into the address field till the last comma is encountered.
5)the last digits in the address should be loaded into the pincode field.
6)the last word present in the address after the last comma and before the hyphen should be loaded into the city field.
7)find for www or http and load it into the website field,if not found leave it blank.

I'm using the setTimeout() function but the call to this function doesn't stop the code flow. I need to stop the code flow while waiting. I guess I need a Sleep() type of JS function.What I'm trying to do is display some blank text on the screen using a for loop (I'm using <BR> to give the appearance of "opening up" a vertical window section in the browser) and I need this 'text' to complete before allowing the following code in the function to execute. The following code will display a Table with rows of data. I'm trying to use a timing function to give a visual impression of a window opening up just before the data displays.
