Flash File Hosted On My Site To Appear On Another?
Feb 18, 2010
I have a flash banner commercial that has to appear on a news site. it has live video and sound in it and im going over the size limit on that site (100kb).
They told me that i could do it like this company and host the file on a different site but make it appear on the news site with a script. Heres how it looks like.code...
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
I'm in love with the David Chipperfield Architects site and would like to try and get some of the features from the site working with jQuery instead of Flash I'm sure most of it is pretty achievable but I'm new to javascript and jQuery so I'm not sure where to start. The navigation and the way the content loads are the main things I want to try and implement.
I have a basic flash gallery that I embedded into my site (HTML & CSS). When viewed in Firefox everything is fine (840px by 427px), but when viewed in IE the gallery changes size & needs to be (887px by 440px) to be viewed correctly.
So, I put an Javascript If Then Else statement. Now it targets and changes in the IE browser (width='887' height='440') , but it also changes the Firefox one to 887x440 when it should stay the original 840x427.
Is it possible to use javascript to write information to a log file that's on an external site? What I want to do is have a person put their name and birthday into a form on my site, and then output that information to a partnering site's log file which would be something like www.whatever.com/whatever.file Is this possible? what file type can javascript write to? I put .file because I am unsure.
I've been making a website for a friend. On her contactpage, I wanted to insert a emailform with php. It works! But before it sends the e-mail, there should be a javascript validation. That code works fine on localhost, but once I upload the website on the host (she uses dhost.info), the javascript file doesn't seem to work anymore. The form even sends blank mails now!
It seems very weird to me, cause I copied the code from my own websites contactpage. It works perfectly there.
Does anyone know what the problem can be here? code...
I have a list of names of flash files. On clicking anyone of them, flash file(.swf) whose path is know should play on the same webpage, on the right side of the list I know the code to play swf file. But here the file name has to be passed and what i need is to pass the file name at runtime depending on the link clicked.
I am working on a project in which I have to open my flash demo in a modal window. I got all the code for modal window and it is working great. The only problem is I am not able to open a flash file in modal window.
I downloaded and tried the superfish example at [url]...started and it works fine. But if I replace the jquery source statement with the second line below, to get the latest Google hosted version of jQuery, the superfish action on the menu goes away. That is, the menu reverts to the no-javascript action. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Our application servers are hosted in US Central. So when cookie created by the application it contains US Central Time with DST.
When we use it in India time comparison logic fails as milliseconds are different. In US central logic of comparison current datetime milliseconds with cookie date time milliseconds work gr8. Any way so that It work in India too.
I have a JS file on site A which needs a few parameters from a short text file on site B. Since crossing domain boundaries in JS is problematic, the way I do it is that the JS actually opens an intermediate PHP file on site A which redirects to the destination page in site B. Here's how it goes:
The call is made through code...
The problem is that this takes a long time. I would really like to speed this up. For example - I thought of using a direct IP address, so that there won't be any need a DNS server (using Code...
) but this would expose me to hackers as it would make my Hostgator username visible. According to HG support the above format is the only way to access my subsite via direct IP.
Any ideas on how to speed this up, either by bypassing DNS (but without exposing username) or by offering another way of reading data across sites?

I always wanted to know how to arrange uploading of multiple files without resorting to Flash. I actually even know a great example of such an upload form: [URL] (you need to be logged into Google Docs to see this) It definitely doesn't use Flash, but the source code is so obscure and clogged that i couldn't decipher it so far. In fact, all i need is a possibility to invoke a file load dialog with the ability to select multiple files, and after they are selected, be able to fetch their absolute paths on a local PC. I don't even need to actually upload them afterwards.
I'm new to javascript and PHP and I am wondering if there is a method or function to capture a 404 error in the event a particular html file cannot be found. I want to redirect that error to another page or design the code to send me an email telling me what page was selected and not found. In other languages I can trap such an error and respond to it.
Is it possible using some kind of Script to get text/pictures/symbols from typed text and from a gif. file (already on the web site) to show on another place in the web site by clicking on a button. My coding is like this:
By pressing "Show" I want the text typed in the form to show on the same site, and then the user should have the opportunity to also place a symbol (the gif. file) the same way as the text and to be viewed on the same site too.
I'm try to set up a webpge that will play a live flash video on the left-hand side(got that part working) and display one slide of a presentation(jpg) to the right of the video. I would like to be able to control when the slide image changes by having some js check a text file on my server. The text file could contain something as simple as "Slide1.jpg". I will manipulate the text file with some code I've already written. Is there some simple js code I can put in my page that will cause it to check the text file every 5 seconds, and if the content of the file has changed, to refresh the image on the page with the new image? I'm try to get away from the "clicking" sound that is caused by doing a simple refresh of an Iframe.
I am trying for a javascript code that would ask for the excel file location when run, fetch data from two columns till eof in an excel file (MS Excel 2010), append it to an existing text file and upload the plain text file to an ftp location.
The ftp username, password and location needs to be hard coded in the script.
