Detect <DIV> Size And Insert Into Another Page?

Aug 13, 2010

I have a goal in mind, and that is to get the width & height of a <DIV> tag in one document and insert them into another document...all on the same domain. It sounds like a simple task, but in case more detail is needed, let me explain:I have a page called 'demo.html' which launches a page called 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' via Shadowbox as an iFrame.

The problem is that 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' slightly differs in dimension on every browser and screen resolution. I want to have the iFrame's size detected every time it launches so Shadowbox can get solid dimensions to display it without scrollbars.Here is the code I would like to insert the dimensions in to:

<A HREF="/gallery/archive_iframe.html" rel="shadowbox;width=???;height=???" class="imgLink" title="Video Archive"><img src="gallery/videoarchive_thm.jpg" alt="Launch Video Archive (popup window)" width="260" height="162" border="0" /></A>

Detect The Current Font Size?

Jan 5, 2011

I have a button (in html) and I want the center of the button to be on the center of the line I'm typing on... I was just putting it inside a span and then using this code to move it down.

<span style="position:relative; bottom:-10;">

It worked great! But... once I started allowing my users to change the font sizes the buttons got bigger and they needed to be moved down further...

if the font size was +1:

<font size="+1"><span style="position:relative; bottom:-10;">

if the font size was +6:

<font size="+6"><span style="position:relative; bottom:-27.5;">

So is there a way in javascript to detect the current font size and then adjust the span position based off of that? If I can just get the number of the current font size I can do all the rest of the coding, I just need a way to figure out the current font size and put it in a variable... I was thinking of using something like 1.0em so that it stays the same but then we have a basis of measuring off of but I have no clue..

JQuery :: Detect Size Of An Image?

Apr 9, 2010

This is an update to a previous question which didn't get any replies. Having tried some things it boils down to a question of whether jQuery can detect the width of an image on the page when that width hasn't been defined in the image tag or css.

I'm designing templates for other authors to use. If they put an image of over a certain width in a div it'll break the layout. I've tried to write a function that gets (1) the name of the div and (2) the maximum width allowable. It should then check the images in that div and if they're over the maximum width, resize them to the maximum width. If they're under it should leave them alone. If a width is defined in the the width attribute it should leave it alone.

I know that is what 'max-width' is for, but the browser in our organization is IE6 and that's not going to change anytime soon. It ignores 'max-width'.

[Code]..

The result each time I tinker with it is that either it does nothing or it sets the widths of all images to maxwide, even the small ones. I'm doing wrong? The only clue I have is that if I alert the width of images going through the function, those without a defined width come up as 'auto', which it seems to think is greater than maxwide.

Resizing DIV - Makeweb Page That Adapts To Size Of Your Browser Size When Maximized

Jul 19, 2010

I'm attempting to make a web page that adapts to the size of your browser size when it maximized. Because I'm only 15 I'm not such a great programmer or coder. I've done my best with the resources I have though (Fluent in Lua and a natural ability to pick languages syntax up quickly)

Here is what I have so far, it doesn't work and it is starting to puzzle me. As it seems correct as I look at it. I'm sorry if this question show my ignorance. I try my best to hide it.

Some of it is Copy pasted from sources on Google. But only for educational purposes, I learn off reading, examining and testing out snippets.

I'm basically trying to get the max size of the window and resize the div accordingly.

Detect URL & Detect Something On Page & Show Content Accordingly?

Feb 14, 2009

Can Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.

Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.

The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.

So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?

Insert Multiple HTML Content From A Single Page

May 29, 2011

I have about 10 JQuery Books and they all talk about using Ajax(JQuery Load function) to insert either an HTML page or fragments of an HTML page into another page.

However, amazingly none of these books mentioned getting multiple items using the same function(document.ready).

Here is what I mean. I have a document.ready function which I use to get specific content from a page. However, to get additional items, I need to set up additional document.ready function.

So if I was retrieving 3 sets of content from a page, I will set up my script like this:

Code:

And the HTML

Code:

Is there a leaner better way to do this? Again all the books tells you how to grab a content, which I have done but do I have to create a new function for each item?

Insert Counter Call In External Script Instead Of HTML Page

Mar 5, 2011

I actually use a counter on a webpage (It works). To do it, I use an inline javascript but I would like to unify the entire page and call that counter directly in the external Javascript that manages the whole site.

Here's the actual code...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span><SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>
...
</body>

EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT (ini.js)
var hits="HITS ";
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}

And here a "view" of my request...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span>
...
</body>

EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT
var hits="HITS " + <SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>;
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}
How to modify it ?

Image Paths Inside - Insert A Slide Show Into A Page

Nov 20, 2009

Although I have done a fair bit of html coding after taking several HTML courses, I have never become involved in JavaScript beyond adding the occasional pre-made script for a particular function.

Which is what I am trying to do at the moment. I want to insert a slide show into a page and have tried 2 scripts from Java Kit Scripts. Both are similar and I am having the same problem with both.

The problem: Inserting the image path. They both ask for the image path (naturally) and give the following examples:

Example 1:

Example 2:

But there is no reference to an "image" folder. I have tried inserting the folder name: "images/iss-bunker-1tn.jpg",

I have also tried leaving the word "images" out and also tried saving the related images in the same folder as the html coded pages. I have also tried using "shtml" pages. But nothing seems to work.

AJAX :: Detect Activities In A Web Page?

Please, how do I do that in javascript?

When Does The DOM Know The Page Size?

Aug 26, 2010

The code at the end of this post displays 3 lines, each of which is supposed to display the inner width of the browser window.The top line, show width 1, is filled in by an inline script inserted in the body after the 3 display lines.The middle line, show width 2, is a function defined in the head section and kicked off by the onload event of the body tag.The last line, show width 3,is a function that is also defined in the head section and kicked off as window.onresize by the show width 2 script.This works the same when you remove the window.resize line and add the onresize event to the body tag.

I'm running XP professional 64-bit and Explorer 8. I saved the code to my hard drive and here is the results and what I think is happening.Double click the file, window maximized:

This page is 0 pixels wide.
This page is 0 pixels wide.
This page is 1897 pixels wide.

During the load and at load the DOM does not know the width of the window yet. When the page is complete the DOM is updated and the change in the window size triggers the onresize event and the third width is updated correctly.Double click the title bar to unmaximize the window and the display changes to:

This page is 0 pixels wide.
This page is 0 pixels wide.
This page is 929 pixels wide.

The page was not reloaded, so the first two lines remain the same, it was resized so the third line changes.Hit F5 to refresh the screen:

This page is 929 pixels wide.
This page is 929 pixels wide.
This page is No Jave Script pixels wide.

The page was refreshed with the DOM already knowing the width of the page so lines one and two displayed the proper width. It was not resized, so line 3 was not refreshed and the original text remained.

Resize the window:

This page is 929 pixels wide.
This page is 929 pixels wide.
This page is 808 pixels wide.

The dom initially knew the old size when it was refreshed, so lines one and two did not change. Line three was updated after the window size was updated in the DOM.

Here is the actual page code:

Code:
<!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet -->
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

JQuery :: Insert Iframe - Don't Have To Reload The Page When The Menu Item Is Clicked

Apr 11, 2011

I currently have a website with a number of menu items, many of which result in the main site being redisplayed but with an iframe being inserted somewhere within the middle of the page. The iframe is initially loaded as hidden but there is a JavaScript 'onload' routine which calculates the height of the iframe and then makes it visible in order to avoid the iframe showing scrollbars since the content of the iframe is variable.

Roughly, things look like this:

Menu button: reloads main page and passes one or more parameters, e.g. [url]

Then elements of the main page including the menu are displayed. Then, if specified by the relevant 'func' parameter the iframe is shown using code similar to the following:

This works fine but I was wondering whether there is any way of using jQuery such that I don't have to reload the page when the menu item is clicked. In other words, you'd click on the menu item and the relevant iframe would be inserted within the middle of the website, automatically sized.
