Jul 20, 2005Is it possible to convert an item of form field data to uppercase using
the toUpperCase() method? What I'm really asking is, how do I reference the data item?

i'm trying to use a vector that is returned from a javascript datatable to a php session variable.. i've got the following code:
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
function fnFormatDetails ( oTable, nTr )
{
var aData = oTable.fnGetData( nTr );
[Code].....
i know that i cant simply convert directly a javascript structure to php.. i just wrote the code in red to explain what i'm trying to do... i need to pass the id from the row in datatable to use on php code on the showcompany.php
I have this code, I know it has ASP in it but the ASP isnt giving me the hard time, the javascript is (I think...). Right now users can use this drop down menu to get to a certain page, but instead i need to have them type in a number and then have it go to that page in a new window (as they are PDF files) and if not, display an error. Right now I have
<select name="catalogPage" >
<%for i = 1 to 396%>
<option value="<%=i%>.pdf"><%=i%></option>
<%next%>
</select>
And that works fine, but Ive tried countless different things and nothing seems to give me the desired result.
Ive got a form with 3 text fields, one for first name, last name and one i dont what the user to be able to write things in(if that cant be done no biggy), when I hit submit, I want to move these two entries (first name and lastname) into uneditable text field so basically just combine the two, and then the user can add more names and it just keeps adding them to the end of the other text field... kinda hard to explain, basically like a chat type thing, where hitting enter just adds more names to the other text field except only you can see it.

I am having trouble getting the text to change to the converted version. I have each input of type=datetime-local assigned to a class dateTime and I am using the function below.
The code runs without error, but the text of the control is not updated.
$('.dateTime').click(function() {

var dateParts = mainParts[0].split('-');

what i want to do is have a selection from 'tst' trigger an input into 'choose' from the data inputted into the 'fname' and 'lname' fields.
for example, i want option '1', when selected to draw the input from 'fname' and place it into 'choose'
or i might want to select the data in 'lname' instead, so i will tie option 2 to it, so when the user selects option 2 the contents of 'lname' go into 'choose' instead.
I'm having users fill out a form where there are multiple rows of data.
Some of the rows can have duplicate data for some fields.
So say on line 1) i have first name, last name as an input fields and some other fields as well, c, d, e, etc.
When the user gets to line 2) if they want to have the same first name and last name as line 2, can I have them check a box and it will automatically populate these fields with the info they just typed in line 1? I can't figure out how to do this.
I need the value of my drop down box options to contain size information rather than price. However I would like to be able to calculate a price for the items based on what size the user selects as well as the quantity. Below is the code I came up with (which doesn't work obviously)What can I do to get this to work for me?

I'm a little curious with regards to alerting a user to invalid data in a form field through inline alerts, rather than alert boxes and without a page load.In otherwords, if someone types in invalid data into a form field, before they hit the submit button, I'd like to use javascript the insert some red text on the side saying "this is invalid".I'm concerned that people with visual disabilities wont notice it due to their screen readers.I.e. if the screen doesn't re-load, will the screen read read the nexly inserted text or will it not do anything until a new page loads?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an ajax function which passes form field values to a PHP script which in turn saves the data to my database. all works great.
I now need to add a file input to my form and pass the file upload ot the same PHP script.
I have read an article [url] which explains how to do this but this would suggest it is a completely separate function.
My question is, is there anyway I can expand my existing function (below) to inlude the file upload process to save having 2 functions doing the same process?

I have only one variable for input which is diameter of a circle in millimeters. This ultimately converts into a Gauge value as in gun barrels. I can do this in Excel but haven't much of a clue about coding for a web page element.
-So I have input X halved to give a radius.
-Then 4/3 pi r cubed gives the volume in cu mm
-Volume x 0.01134 which is the weight in grams of lead per cubic mm gives the weight of the sphere
-This is then divided into 453.59237 which is the weight of a lb of lead in grams
-Result is number of spheres per lb lead i.e. the gauge
-So if we start with a bore of 23mm (0.906").
-We end with a gauge of 6.278 and a weight of 72.26gms (2.549 oz)
I have a web form with several fields. If I copy & paste from a RTF document into a field, the javascript validation and field length are bypassed and cause the form to fail.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a form with a 'name', 'date', 'type', 'style', 'color' and 'result' field.let's say the user inputs "jones" in the name field, "8/1/2011" in the date field, "new" in the type field, and 'modern' in the style field.i want the 'result' field to take a look at the 'name' field, and if the 'name' field has a particular text, let's say (in this case) "jones", the javascript code will then place the contents of 'date', 'type' and 'style' fields, along with hardwired text like "the information you are looking for is 'date', 'type' and 'style'" into the 'result' field.

I post a little function which will help you to convert lowerCase to UpperCase while you are typing.
Code:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
function pulsar(e,obj) {
tecla = (document.all) ? e.keyCode : e.which;
//alert(tecla);
if (tecla!="8" && tecla!="0"){
obj.value += String.fromCharCode(tecla).toUpperCase();
return false;
}else{
return true;
}
}
</script>
<input type="text" onkeypress="return pulsar(event,this)" />
If you could help me to improve this function your advice is very welcome.....
The following form validation script works, currently if one of the five fields are completed, a message appears the remaining field(s) must be completed etc. Although the information the user has inputted in the first field is cleared. How can this information be available, if there is one problem in the form it doesn't make sense that the user must re-input all the information again. I look forward to hearing your response,
function validate_form ( )

Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.
The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:
$("textarea#draftrec").html(data).show();
//------------------------------------------------------
$("form#form1").submit(function(e){

I'm using a script to convert record tables in an HTML file to be client-side sortable by associating title columns with sort events.
It works fine when sorting by last name, except for those which start with a lowercase letter (van, de, etc.). I understand ASCII considers uppercase before lowercase letters, so is there an easy fix to this?
I want to match 5 uppercase letters followed by a dash, followed by 5 more uppercase letters. I tested this:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var str="^This is a test. PIYRW-NKJDQ";
var patt1=/[A-Z]{5}-[A-Z]{5}/g;
document.write(str.match(patt1));
</script>
and if I change the last part of str to "XXPIYRWV-XNKJDQ" it matches "IYRWV-XNKJD" when I want it to return null. What am I doing wrong?
my javascript code is only validating one field at a time (as in it validates on field then submits the form, instead of going through the entire thing and then returning it as true and submitting it...) I'm not sure what to do to be honest, I've looked up google to no real avail.. my variables are declared in a seperate file to the actual even handlers and I have heaps of comments through out it, so please don't judge lol i'm still learning Quote:
