JQuery :: Setting Value Of Textarea In Hidden Form Field

Dec 19, 2010

I am very new to jquery and I am trying to set the value of a textarea which is not in a form, into a hidden field which is in a form. In the text area, I have given it an id called refnote and ive used the text() to get the text in it. However, the problem is setting the retrieved text in a hidden form field.
$('form').submit(function(){
alert ($('#refnotes').text());
return false;
});

JQuery :: PHP Dynamically Created Form - No Data Passed?

Jan 13, 2010

I have some forms whose ID's are dynamically created via PHP by including a variable called "invno" as shown here:

<form name="formEditInvoice<?php echo $invno ?>" id="formEditInvoice<?php echo $invno ?>" method="post" action="javascript: SubmitEditedInvoice(<?php echo $invno ?>);" onsubmit="javascript: return ValidateForm(this);">

As you can see in the "action" attribute, I'm calling this function:

function SubmitEditedInvoice(invno) {
$.post('output.php?mode=6&invno=' + invno, $('#formEditInvoice' + invno).serialize(),
function(output){[code]....

The problem I'm having is that no data is passed to the PHP back end. I have verified that the variable invno is correctly passed to the javascript function, and have tested my .serialize() by using a hard-coded form ID, but I still get no data passed through.

Data From Hidden Field Is Not Sent To Server...

Jul 23, 2005

I have a form whereby I can add multiple contacts to a single address.
There is only one firstname/lastname/telephone box - when the user
clicks the add button, I read the values from the form fields and
record them into a hidden text input field. This part works because
during debugging, I have converted the <input type=hidden> into a <input
type=text> to visably confirm my data is being copied into the 'hidden'
field.

Once the user has entered in one or more names, they can click another
button and submit the form for processing. My idea is that I would then
parse this hidden field server side...

I have a WAMPHP based server and as a test, I dump out my entire $_POST
(basically, the name and value in every INPUT tag).

My PHP script picks up the name of every input tag, including the hidden
field (like it should) but for some reason, the value that was written
to the hidden field is not passed to the server. Thus, for the PHP folk
reading this post, my hidden input field is called mylist and
$_POST['mylist'] exists, but its empty. Even though before processing,
I could visably see the input in the box (for debugging remember, I made
the input tag box a normal, unhidden one).

Here is what I have done to try and resolve:
- I have used both Mozilla 1.7.5 and IE6 - both provide same results -
my hidden field name gets passed, but not its value.

- I have created another hidden field and given it a default value ie I
have <input type="hidden" name="extraone" value="xyz"> and I get
$_POST['extraone']="xyz" passed to my php server, like I would expect -
however, the value of mylist is sent empty, even though it has data.

- I have even put in a javascript alert box just before the form is sent
to the server and can see the result in my (unhidden) box, and the same
value displayed in the javascript alert - but again, the value of the
mylist does not get sent to the server.

The only difference is that my hidden field (even if its displayed like
an ordinary text input box) does not post data written to form fields as
the result of a javascript function. Interestingly though, the server
does know about the input tag box since it does receive
$_POST['mylist'], it justs receives it empty.

What gives? If the form reads my input from one field, and writes it to
another field, then it should be sent to the server, true?

Also... my tags are all inside my <form></form> tag (which is proven by
double checking, and the fact that I do get the input tag box name sent
to my server).

Since I can see the data values in the box, it tells me my javascript is
doing what it should be doing - so I don't see any point in including my
javascript (though I have no problems doing so if someone requests
it). On the php server, I am using a simple phpinfo(); to check the
data is being received...

JQuery :: Form Data Not Displaying In Textarea On Subsequent Return Of Data From A Call?

Oct 5, 2011

Relatively new to jQuery but have a problem with getting data to display.Using a webform with 2 forms. User slects and inputs data into the first form, clicks a button then using jQuery .ajax submits the serialized data to a php script. The script processes the input into multiple paragraphs of text which is based on the input from the first form.The data is returned to the webpage and displayed in a text area (of the 2nd form) where the user can edit it to fine tune the wording. The 2 forms are displayed in different tabs so it is easy to move back and forward between the 2 forms.

The problem occurs when the user goes back to the first form and enters or selects different text and then click the submit button to generate a whole new text for insertion into the textarea on the second form. For certain fields the modified text is displayed.However if the whole of the text in the textarea is deleted, then the user clicks the submit button to re-generate the text content area then nothing at all is ever interted into the textarea. If have user alert to check that data is returned from the php handler and this text is correct. BUT when I click on the tab to see the textarea (id is "draftrec") there is no text inserted. The relevant function is below and the line that should insert the text into the textarea is:

$("textarea#draftrec").html(data).show();
//------------------------------------------------------
$("form#form1").submit(function(e){

Hidden Field Being Populated With Data From Another Site?

Jun 29, 2010

I have a webpage for insurance agents that the agent will login and then enter some insured information.

There is a field named "agentnumber" that is on the form, but is hidden by a display:none. The field is set from the username of the person who logs in whenever the form loads the first time. The form will save automatically when the user leaves the page.

I am experiencing a weird issue that every now and then, the agentnumber field is getting saved with incorrect data. After discussing it with the agent, it is being saved with the agentnumber of the agent from other companies, not from the my website. what may be happening as I thought browser security would prevent cross site javascript. The users are using IE 7 & IE 8.

Say I have a form so long that i want to group sections by category and have them expandable, using css to display:none or display:block these groups. If a user selects an option or two in one of these divs, then fills in some fields, then hides the div... is it going to cause problems when they submit the form if the div is hidden?

edit: what if we add validation into the mix. What happens if a field in a hidden div does not pass validation?

Using Hidden Form Field In Array For Validation

Mar 29, 2011

I have an order form where a customer can select a number of artwork prints supplied by different artists and suppliers. The name, price, postage amount and other details for each of the prints are held in a table in a MySQL database. As postage amount may vary between prints and suppliers of the prints we must have the customer select postage per print - not the amount just yes or no. The customer may select as many of these prints as he desires - printa, printb, printc, printd etc. through to printz. Many of the prints are provided by separate individual suppliers and must therefore have postage paid for each ordered print and this is automatically added by the order form. However some prints are provided by the same supplier and only one postage fee needs to be chosen (yes or no), so these are not automatically added and the customer must choose to pay postage on only one of the prints (not all 3 if he orders 3 of them).

So for postage purposes I have a postage code on the table in the MySQL database. For example printa, printb and printc are all supplied by the same supplier so each have a linked postage code of A. Similarly others may also be linked using different postage codes e.g. printx and printy may have a postage code of B. So whenever a customer chooses a print that does not have a linked postage code then the postage fee is automatically selected for him and charged to the total. However where prints are linked to the same postage code we must allow the costomer to select postage (yes or no), but we must force him to select yes or no for at least one of the linked prints.

So to do this I need a javascript validation alert to force the customer to choose yes for postage for at least one of the prints, not necessarily all of them, where they have a linked postage code. To do that I can add the the postage linked code as an array for each print selected to a form hidden field so that my javascript can use the field as follows: <input type="hidden" name="postagearray[]" value="<? echo $postagecode; ?>">

Posting A Hidden Field To A Form In A Document Using Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

I need to add an input hidden field to an existing form (post).

I have tried a couple things like adding the '<INPUT type=hidden
name=idSelectedURL value=http://server/documents>' to the innerHTML of
the form but it fails. ie

var sField = "<INPUT type=hidden name=idSelectedURL
value=http://server/documents>";
frm.innerHTML = frm.innerHTML + sField;

also, trying to add an element to the form such as:
var frm = document.getElementById("idForm");
var oField = frm.createElement ('input');
oField.type ="hidden";
oField.name = "idSelectedURL";
oField.value ="http://server/documents";

none of these work and give me a javascript error.

I don't think the createElement method can be used from the form
object, only from the document object. still could not get it working.
