View 1 RepliesI am new to jQuery and I am trying to create an autocomplete textbox. When I use a small test database, it works fine but when I use my production database with over 3000 records, it slows to a crawl. It take >20 seconds to load the page and with each letter I type (even though I set minChars to 3), the browser times out asking if I want to continue running the script. My feeling is I need to use AJAX but I have never done that and don't know how to. I code in classic ASP with an Access database. Can anyone provide some sample code how to do this. Unfortunately I am under a time pressure to complete this project.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have a nice little hand rolled Ajax call to my server pulling a list from the database and displaying it in a drop down list dependant on the user input. Aka Google suggest. I am wondering if the quickest way to do this is to call the database each time with Ajax and search the results with the input, or to write an xml from the database and search that. Then when the Database is updated rewrite the xml file.
Am I underestimating MYSQL again? Or not, and I feel it would be good practice to write the xml file because it will essentially mean a lot less database calls. But I dont know how fast searching an xml file would be in comparison to a db call. The results from the database are say 500 entries anywhere between 10 - 100 characters each. I want to know A. The best way to do this B. Lets say the site will have pretty high traffic so I am looking for it to be as tweeked as possible. I can test but thought at the end of my week it was worth seeing what peoples advice is.
I am looking for an Ajax combobox (drop down, not a text box) auto complete script. I searched for it on Google and only result which seems similar to what I am looking for, is dhtmlxCombo. And that one is too complicated for me. What I basicly need is:
When the client types on the drop down, the records appear from MySQL database and when the client chooses one and submits the form, I want the ID (not the text written) to be posted.
I am having no luck with my post form to mysql. It is only posting the first letter of the word/phrase for the text input fields to the mysql database. It is a photo and text post form. The photo and only first letter of text are posting to database. I am using Jqtouch, jquery, and phonegap.
Here is my form fields:
Here is my java script:
I am using the jquery autocomplete pugin fromhttp://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-autocomplete/
I need to perform an action if no data is returned from the autocomplete search but there seems sto be no way to do that. Any ideas pls?
Does anyone have a library or patch to call a handler if a user leaves an autocomplete field without choosing one of the autocomplete options - i.e. they've entered free text. I'm working with an app that populates multiple fields from a single auto-complete value, and our latest requirement is to clear out a bunch of fields if the user's entered something manually - rejecting autocomplete suggestions. My initial attempts at hooking into onkeyfoo and onblur haven't lead anywhere productive, and I'm hoping someone else has managed to overcome the gnarly event and timing dependencies involved with onkeyfoo and blur being used for standard autocomplete behaviour.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have spent the last week trying to figure out how to do the following: User types some text in a text box. The autocomplete queries a php script that returns JSON of matched values. I have got thedrop down list to show these values but I cannot for the life of me get the matched characters to turn bold. For example, if the user types in "rav" and my list contains:
RAVEN
RAVE
RAVEL
then I want it to appear as
RAVEN
RAVE
RAVEL
My current JS code is as follows (along with HTML):
$(function() {
$( "#query" ).autocomplete({
source: "get_json.php",

As a recent convert to jQuery I'm getting to grips with the jQuery autocomplete plug-ins which are available. I thought I'd replace some of my combo boxes with these as they'd be very useful and make life easier for my users.
I can understand how they work and how the values returned can be passed on via my forms, however, whilst I'd like my users to see meaningful results in the list of the autocomplete, I would like to pass on an ID for that field entry during form submission, rather than the friendly data which they see. Is there a way to show users 'friendly' information but pass on the ID to the submission script?
Below code is working fine while type some characters in the text box, But i need to trigger it while focus on a text box through tab key.
$("#product_type_sug").autocomplete(myBaseUrl+"types/autoComplete/", {
width: 192,
extraParams: {
type_id: function() {return $("#product_type").val(); }
},
matchContains: true,

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a form to insert some products into a database... just a normal form. The hardest part is this. I have a javascript code on a text field that launches a page in a iFrame that is supposed to get the content of the text fild to required data.
Example: I type "3456" on the text field and when I pass to the next form field it send the link "[URL]"... the part of loading the page inside the iFrame is done, what I can't seem to achieve is the value to send. Is this possible?
I have a problem in getting database query result to text field when button was clicked. So far I have two php files, one used to connect database and save the database query value to a variable. The second php file used to create the buttons and text field.
code for dbconnection.php
[code]
$con_str = "host=jojo1234 port=3214 dbname=postgres user=postgres password=postgres";
$con = pg_connect("$con_str") or die('Could not connect: ' . pg_last_error());
$queryresult1 = pg_query($query1);
$result11=array_sum(pg_fetch_array($queryresult1));

What I have right now:Endless loop of Rows/records.Each one has a checkbox and a submit button. I tried to make the checkbox pick up updating `long_desc` The submit button currently just marks the job completed in the DB. (0=Incompleted 1=Completed)Submit button works with updating the row, right now... but instead of the submit button doing that, I want to have 2 checkboxes. One that knows to update the text field, and one that knows to update the status of the job, submit button to initialize it.I have some Javascript in already to separate the forms I have, and assign ID's to each Submit button on the page, but I really am stuck right now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to fo a form and the content be sent to a database but i'm stuck...I knwo hot to do forms and also how to send data to mysql using php.But now i need something a bit more complex and i'm stuck.I need to make a form lets say with "parent name, age, child name, child age"Some people has 1 child some people has 2 3 4...and i need to have it separated and not just write like "joe, bob, jack" in the same line.How can i do this?And how should the database be structured? i can't put "id, parent, age, c_name, c_age" because some ppl will need to have more than 1 child in the database.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a dropdown (picklist) on the page, and when the user selects one of the company names in the list the onChange event fires and kicks in some AJAX to get the company's details from the database. The details are just the various locations of each company.
The way I am doing it now I have a simple div on the page below the picklist and I am using PHP to draw out the entire HTML, including the values sought from the database, and then just using innerHTML on the div to dump the info in there.
So I have PHP which concats text like:
"<input type="text" name="city" value="$city">"
"<input type="text" name="state" value="$state">"
and then the JS innerHTML's it into the div.
But it strikes me this is not really an efficient way to do this. Should I just have the PHP form an XML doc and then use that to populate the form fields?
If so how do I use the DOM to create text fields on the page, and then populate them with the info returned from the DB?
I am following the following example to create predictive text pull out of the database.[URL]... Seemed quite easy but it seems like it's not working for me, maybe because i'm doing something wrong?
This is the page:[URL]... If you start typing in the big search box the suggestions box appears in the wrong place, and it should be returning some results but it's not.
This is my autoSuggest.php file:

i have created text fields dynamically by clicking a button now problem is that i want to save the value of these text field into database. i m using java script with PHP's framework codeigniter. the code is as follows

I have a listings page which displays results using images and text which are stored in a MySQL database, all is working fine. The images are pulled into the page from the database and each listing can have up to a maximum of 10 images. Some will have all 10, some probably one or two, so the page is coded such that if there's an image in the field, it displays a thumbnail, if there isn't then it shoves a " " in instead.
The results page has one main photo (image 1) and then a series of thumbnails (images 2-10) below it and I need to be able to set this up so that when someone clicks on image 2 it shows the full-size version of that image in the div where image1 sits, and the same for however many remaining images there are.
So my question is, how easy it is to do this with javascript and does anyone have any idea how to code it?
The main photo sits in a div whose id is "mainphoto" the remainder all sit in a div whose id is "thumbpix".
