Assigning Multiple Values To Arrays?
Jun 11, 2009
Is
fibonacciArray = [20];
fibonacciArray[0,1] = (1,1);
Possible?
I know I can do:
fibonacciArray = [20];
fibonacciArray[0] = 1
fibonacciArray[1] = 1
But the former requires less typing

Any neat way to copy a snapshot of one array to another?
A normal assignment results in the second array pointing to the first,
with changes to either array affecting both.
As a trivial example:
var a=new Array();
a[0]="zero";
var b=a;
b[1]="one";
alert("a="+a.join("*")+String.fromCharCode(10)+"b="+b.join("*"));
.... this results in a and b being identical two-element arrays.
Is there any easy way to set array (b) to be a copy of (a) BY VALUE -
ie using the contents of (a) as they were at the moment of assignment,
but leaving the two arrays separate so that subsequent changes to one
array does not affect the other?

So I am working on an excercise that the User puts in a Lastname, Firstname, and a score via textboxes. When the user pushes the add student score it should show up in the text area with this format " Brown, John: 92". When looking at the logic, I understand that each text box will need to be different arrays if im right, and then I will have to concat all three arrays into the format and assign it to a variable. Then assign the variable to the value of the text area. I just cannot seem to put the function together or how you would go about it. how to go about putting it together. The first code is my body of HTML I'm working with.
<body>
<div id="content">
<h1>Student Scores</h1>
<div id="buddy">

I'm moving from php to JavaScript. What I want to do is assign a value to a variable only if the variable hasn't been assigned yet.
In php it would be:
if($variable=='')
$variable='default value'
I thought the equivalent in javascript would be:
if(variable=='')
variable='default value'
Can anyone explain why this doesn't work, or what I should do instead?

I am trying to assign values to a bunch of form fields. However, I don't want to loop through EVERY field in the form, just a specific subset of fields. The fields I am trying to change are all named similarly myField1, myField2, myField3.So, my thought is that I would like to use a for loop and loop through the appropriate fields by simply incrementing a variable and appending it to the end of the string "myField" in order to change the appropriate field.How can I evaluate "myField + iterator" into a useable reference to change the value of said field?

I am taking a js class and there is one minor bug that is driving me crazy with this assignment.
First, here is the code I wrote, then my question:
var games = ["Jacks","Chutes and Ladders","Extreme Uno","Bopit","Barbie Doll"];
var price = [4.00,15.99,25.00,27.99,32.00];
var inventory = [40,15,30,20,40];
[Code.....
I can't (just before this line) assign 0 to each array item - to get it defined because if the user goes back in and adds more, it will always reset the number back to 0, which is not what I wanted.
I tried adding an if..else statement instead, but cannot figure out how to get that to work?

I have a simple filmstrip that uses getJSON to return data. The data is an array containing two arrays. The first, is the base path to photos. The second is a list of the photo file names. I am trying to loop through the array of photos and set them in divs. Then I need to attach an event to popup a larger view of the image placed in a dynamically generated div containing the image and initially hidden.
So what I am trying to accomplish is:
1. get JSON data from server.
2. get base image path from json data array
3. get list of images from json data array
4. Loop through list of images, prepend base path and assign to hard coded div.
5. create a dynamically generated div with larger version of same image.
6. Attach hover action to cause a mouse-over action on the hard coded div to popup the dynamically generated div containing the larger version of the image.
My issue is that once my code runs, no matter what image in the filmstrip I mouse over I always get a popup with the last image in it. Here is my code:
<script language="javascript">
$(document).ready(
function(){
$.getJSON("<?php echo site_url('filmstrip/index');?>",
function(data){
var dir = data['dir'];
var imgs = data['imgs'];
var i =0; .....

The simplified code below works, and should give you an idea of what Im trying to achieve. The final version will have dozens of input fields so you can see why the below method stinks :D
<html><head><title>Values</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function getid() {
[Code].....
Each text input will have A or B written in by the user, which should automatically place that letters associated ID in its partner field. If any other letter is entered the ID will automatically be left blank.
With the above code I'd need to repeat it over and over for each of the dozens of input fields. The final version wont be using simply A/B either but around 50 possible inputs each with their own ID which would make around 1000 possible variations.

I am trying to pass an (Global) array of variables to a number of functions in javascript but they are not being recognised. As follows:
<Head>
<Script>
var nutherVariable ="Whatever"
arrayset1 = newArray(n1)
arrayset1[0] ="XXXXXX"
arrayset1[2] ="XXXXXX"
etc
arrayset2 = newArray(n2)
arrayset2[0] ="yyyyyyy"
arrayset2[2] ="yyyyyyy"
etc
function doSomthing(arrayset1, arrayset2, nutherVariable){
document.theForm.txtBox.value=arrayset1[n] + arrayset2[n];
<!-- No output to form textfield unless array defined within function-->
}
</Script>
</Head>
<Body>
Passes and recieves variables to/from function(s) via Form
</Body
I think what I am asking is what is the syntax to do this.

I have a choice when creating a new API that I would like other peoples opinions on. Do I use a single Array or Multiple arrays such as: array[1][1] = "ID[56]NAME[Hello World]START[10]"; OR
ID[1][1] = 56;
Name[1][1] = "Hello World";
Start[1][1] = 20;
The API is used for animations so is very heavy work, but would using around 15 multidimensional arrays be too much and a single one be preferable???

I have a list of products where they have minimum quantities in a hidden input. Some products have multiple colours, though the same minimum quantity and I'm trying to implement a jQuery check that entries made are at least equal to the minimum.
Blank or '0' entries are fine but if it's below the minimum quantity it should set to the minimum.
HTML:
Is there something obviously wrong with this? It isn't performing the minimum check and I'm really not sure why.

I am trying to retrieve selected values from a multiple select object on a page:
*** Selection Page ***
<form name="theForm">
<select name="numbers" MULITPLE>
<option value="1">One</option>
<option value="2">Two</option>
<option value="2">Three</option>
</select>
</form>
What I want to do is to pass the selected values from "Selection page" to its parent window. Right now, I pass the values by doing this (in JavaScript):
window.opener.parentForm.num.value = document.theForm.numbers.value;
I'm assuming if mulitple selections are made (lets say One and Two are selected), document.theForm.numbers.value will be a collection of the selected option values. Is this correct?
If so, how can I retrieve each option value when coding parent window?

I am trying to do some JavaScript calculation with checkboxes, and have been able to modify some codes to do bits of what i want to do. (Screenshot attached) However, i want each checkbox to have multiple values, and therefore multiple results.
I can't find any examples, but i've come across something similar with Radio buttons [URL].. I don't 'get' the example enough to proceed. My question is, is it even possible to do with a checkbox, and if so how do i go about doing it please?
The Javascript code:
function count() {
var item1price = 10;
var item2price = 50;
var item3price = 1100;
var item4price = 100;

I am trying out checkbox total calculator code examples, which automatically calculates the values of checked/unchecked items, and so far so good. My question is if it's at all possible for each checkbox to have multiple values, so i can have different sets of totals? I have been looking for examples all over with no luck. I have seen examples for Radio buttons, which separates the different totals with commas, but i don't have enough JavaScript experience to understand it fully.

My question is that I want to make the table rows populate from a database so each of the javascript values will have to be unique for the value to be worked out on a specific row calculation.
The code as it is works out the single value but how would i go about using the mechanics of the code to apply to multiple lines in the table. Code:
