We have an html page which brings in content dynmically using Ajax. So the page starts out with certain content, and when a particular link is clicked, the content is swapped out with new content. With this approach, the back button on the browser does not work, because the URL didn't actually change. How could a user bookmark the new page with the second set of content? Is this even possible?

Is there some way for javascript to detect an overall system idle time?I have seen examples and working copies of javascript detecting no mouse movements as long as the mouse cursor stays within the scope of the open browser window. What I am wanting is to detect mouse movements outside of the browser window, when the browser is minimized, etc. and have that not count against idleness.Basically I am wanting to be able to leave the browser window minimized and if the mouse is not moved within a certain period of time, that browser window is logged out of its current application.For the purpose of this, I am content to use mouse movement as the sole arbiter of idleness.Is something like this possible with javascript?

I'm creating an AJAX user validation so that when a user types in a username, it checks it in the database to see if it exists. I want it to execute after the user finishes typing. I've tried using:
$("#username_field").keyup(function(){
which works, but I don't want a query executed every time the users presses a key. I was wondering if there was a better way to do it. Meaning I what the check to be preformed after the user finishes typing.

var $j = jQuery.noConflict();
$j(document).ready(function() {

I have to come up with a user authenication page the logs the user in and also gives them access to do the right things. I have attached the code and the access file and have got started on a few things.I first need to create a login page with the fields username and password have that check the access database and then proceed it to a page to do the following depending on the user access. For The Login button to even be enabled the username and password must have a value in it. I have no idea how to do that
Add A User [No duplicate Users]

I have an webbpage, and in the middle of it there is an iframe to a php site. So i have used this code, so after some seconds the iframe will send the guest to another page. <meta http-equiv="refresh" traget="_top" content="5 url=http://mypage.com"/> But the thing is that i want the WHOLE page to reload, and go to that page after 5 seconds (we can say). With that code, only the iframe are going to another page. Is it possible to make the whole page send the user after some seconds, to another page and not only the iframe?

I want to add a global event handler for mousedown that will register whenever the user clicks anywhere on the page but I'm having trouble.This is what I'm trying to do:
var body = document.getElementsByTagName("body");
alert(body);
body.addEventListener(mouseDown, myHandler);[code]....
But the event handler is never called. I can't even seem to get access to the body. Is the body tag the wrong place to be assigning the mousedown handler? I'm trying to make this code work correctly in both IE and firefox.

There is many examples of PageLoader's etc. in the web, but I can't find a script like facebook (and many other sites) uses. When a link is cliked -> user stays at current page and get's "Page loading" etc. notice until the next page is fully downloaded.In other words; When I click a link (Internet Explorer), I get first "a white page" until next page show's ..I want, that the page does not go white at all, but current page show's until the next page is fully downloaded.

Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="40;URL=http://webaddress.com/">
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.

Not sure if I posted this in the right area since its a Javascript/PHP related problem.I have no clue how to check if a user didn't leave the site.Ofcourse you can use the Onunload() or Beforeunonload() function.But some browsers like Opera and Safari and who know what other browsers don't support it.Is there any other alternative?Like expecting server side each X seconds a AJAX request from the user?If the user doesn't send a request, the user has left.

I want to redirect my page to the EXACT same page the user is viewing. Kinda like window.location.refresh(), but it refreshes the page, means it empties some part of the cache and will reload images. I want it to simply open the page again, exactly like when I click a link refering to the same url. I've tried reload(), but it doesn't reload either.
window.location.reload();
window.location.refresh();
window.location = '';
window.location.href = window.location.href;

I was wondering if there's a quick and simple way to notify a user if an ajax connection is broken, for example you're calling a file, but due to your internet connection, the file cannot be relayed back to you, so the existed javascript code on the initial page you're on, notifys you of the problem.

I'm so happy my jquery is dispatching a serverside script (ajax) and it is working I have verified in the database.Now I would like to provide some feedback to the user so first go will be alert, later I will do something snazzy.I am just getting head around jQuery, so please excuse noobness of question. I will think that either one or the other of these alerts below would fire, but neither of them do and nothing also logs in the console.

I'm developing a site that will use technologies like JavaScript and AJAX. I want the site to be functional for people that has older browsers or JavaScript turned off so for this I need to find out if the user's browser is supporting JavaScript and AJAX.
How can I check this in an easy and simple way? I.e the user enters my website with JavaScript turned off at the moment. And then he turns it on and reloads the page. I would like to catch that he has turned JavaScript on. The same goes with AJAX (although there is no off/on setting for AJAX).

I've been reading about jquery and ajax and I'm not exactly 100% sure as to how to implement it. Essentially I have the following:
A textbox
A select box
Another select box
As the user fills data in the textbox and then clicks off I want the javascript to fire, submit the value in the textbox to a url (I can handle the backend side of it all fine) which will then send new data to the select boxes. Similarly for the second select box when a user clicks off (After selecting) I need the jquery to fire again. I've seen this code and think I get how to write it in, but I'm not sure how to do the (When user clicks off bit of it).
$.get('ajax/test.html', function(data) {
$('.result').html(data);
alert('Load was performed.');
});

I am having a problem of calling the user defined JS function after I make the AJAX call. Basically, I created couple radio buttons on the main html page. When the user clicks on one of the radio button, it will trigger the AJAX call and return another html file in the "div" content that I set in the main html page. The other html file contains a user defined JS function (e.g. "updateContent()") which use the onclick event handler to call the function. When I'm running the app, and click on the button. I had seen the firebug was complaining the "updateContent() is not defined" error. The function itself works fine and must be defined properly.
Here is the code in the main.html page:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var asyncRequest;
function getTools(url){
try
[Code].....

I'm creating an AJAX page that is built using a PHP Class, ie the php looks a bit like this: PHP Code:
$wp_page->addjs('../var/savepolicies.js')
$wp_parser->page = "userpolicywindow.php";
$wp_parser->addlink("Home","../index.php","");
$wp_parser->addlink("Logout","javascript:logout();","");
$wp_parser->getpageid("501");
[Code]...
within this page that has been created, there is an AJAX tree folder which calls another page to be loaded into a DIV by AJAX again. Code:
[Code]...
I don't know why it doesn't work because the page has been loaded with the JS file, but as soon as the link is added afterwards it doesn't work. I take it this is because it doesn't know where to find the JS, but how can I overcome this?
