Adding Form Values & Validation Of Forms

Jul 5, 2010

I'm currently working on a website called 'eXtreme Gaming' I've almost completed it, apart from two things.

- Adding two values on my checkout page for the Grandtotal (I've tried everything, but I'm too much of a noob and have probably missed something small).

- Validation of forms (I don't know where to start here, I've looked on w3schools for tuts etc but I'm having difficulty incorporating it on my site)

Forms - Adding Values And Searching A Directory Dynamically

Aug 28, 2009

I have a form, and i am trying to add the values of 5 fields into one javascript variable. Then i need an ajax function to search a directory for a php file made from these variables and return a "file exists" or "file doesnt exist" message to the form.

For example, assume the following values have been inputted into the fields;
Field1 (Manufacturer) - Kawasaki
Field2 (Model_Name) - GPZ500
Field3 (Nickname) - None
Field4 (Market) - UK
Field5 (Year) - 2000

Then javascript needs to add the values of Field1 - Field5 (and add a few bits)to create (for example):

Kawasaki_GPZ500_None_UK_2000.php

Then i need ajax to search a web directory for the file above, and if it exists return a link, or if it doesnt exist tell the user it doesnt exist.

im hoping that i can use ajax to do this search without clicking any buttons etc. unfortunately i have very little knowlegde of javascript and ajax and dont have a clue how i can go about implementing this.

i know how to do it by posting the variables to the next page and doing the check using php - but i would like instant validation as soon as the form fields have been entered.

JQuery :: $(form).submit() Validation And Multiple Forms?

Sep 29, 2009

I have built out a fairly rhobust app using jquery and jquery-ui all was going well until we started to bring different screens together inside a tabbed interface. Seems that now when we execute our validation code on one form its checking the fields of all other forms on the page.All of my forms do have unique ID's and all elements within all forms have unique ID's.My understanding of using this.find inside of the submit event was that it should only find the forms elements am I wrong? Method that performs the actual validation:

Form Validation Query - Adding Extra Fields To A Form?

Sep 1, 2009

I have a working contact form with 3 of the fields requiring validation and they work well. I have added extra fields to the form (StatusClass, Project, CameFrom). These 3 fields return fine but I need to validated them. My problem is that the new fields don't show in the behaviours/validate panel even though they are within the form tag.

<script type="text/JavaScript">

function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {

Adding Forms But It's Limited To Text Input Forms?

Nov 14, 2011

how to add forms in javascript, but it's limited to text input forms.

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
function updatesum() {
document.form.sum.value = (document.form.sum1.value -0) + (document.form.sum2.value -0);
}
//--></script>

Where the inputs sum1 and sum2 are text fields you put whatever numbers you want in. That works fine. Great. Now what I'm having trouble with is modifying the code so that it will add one form with an input number with a form that spits out a randomly generated number.

<input type="button" value="D20" onclick="this.form.display.value = Math.round (20 * Math.random())" class="buttonHi" />  <input name="display" type="text" size="6" value="" />

This is what I'm using for my random number generator. So basically I want to be able to put, say, 5, into the input text field above this. And then click on the d20 button to get a random number, say, 15, and then have the first code add the inputted 5 with the randomly generated 15.

Form Validation Adding Border Around Input?

Jan 15, 2011

Currently on my form if you your input dosn't pass my validation you will see an error message and red box will also appear around the input box. The issue is that if you will it out the box will not disappear until you hit submit. Obviously that is because I have PHP validate the form, but I would like for the red border to go away as soon as the conditions are met, which is why I thought, JS would be the best solution.

I know how to write a conditional state in JS but I am not sure ho to echo out different classes based on the conditions.

Adding Values To Form Text Fields

Feb 15, 2010

I want to do is add the values of seven text fields on a form and pop that value to an eighth field. I thought the code below would work, but I get "NaN" on the sum field.

Code:
function addHazWaste() {
document.getElementById('HazardousWaste').value = 0;
var HazWasteTotal = 0;
var HazWaste1 = 0;
var HazWaste2 = 0;
var HazWaste3 = 0;
var HazWaste4 = 0;
var HazWaste5 = 0;
var HazWaste6 = 0;
var HazWaste7 = 0;
HazWaste1 = parseInt(document.getElementById('HazardousWasteSentToLandfill').value,10);
HazWaste2 = parseInt(document.getElementById('HazardousWasteSentToWasteToEnergy').value,10);
HazWaste3 = parseInt(document.getElementById('HazardousWasteIncinerated').value,10);
HazWaste4 = parseInt(document.getElementById('HazardousWasteRecycled').value,10);
HazWaste5 = parseInt(document.getElementById('HazardousWasteReused').value,10);
HazWaste6 = parseInt(document.getElementById('BiohazardousWasteSentToLandfill').value,10);
HazWaste7 = parseInt(document.getElementById('BiohazardousWasteIncinerated').value,10);
HazWasteTotal = HazWaste1 + HazWaste2 + HazWaste3 + HazWaste4 + HazWaste5 + HazWaste6 + HazWaste7;
document.getElementById('HazardousWaste').value = HazWasteTotal;
}

If I run a separate function that just sets all form field values to zero (including the first line of this function). The summing works!!! Why won't it work the way I wrote it??? It won't work if I set the default value for the sum field to zero, either...

Mar 4, 2010

If I do something similar to the following:if ((passForm.field1.value) < (passForm.field2.value) ) {alert.....It runs, but is running the validation, but is reading the values as text and literally left to right.

so for example
If field1 = 12 and field2=3 it does not run the alert (wrong)
If field1 = 12 and field2=100 it runs the alert (wrong)

Adding $ Values In Drop Down Choices And Totaling In Html Form?

Feb 17, 2010

I am creating a html form for the local soccer league for online registration. In a drop down box the user chooses whether in house or travel and both choices have a different fees ao I would like to add a $ value to both options to be displayed in a TOTAL box at the bottom of the form before they submit. I would (if possible) like to have that total displayed on the page they are directed to after submitting the form. This page will have a link to PayPal for the user to pay their fee or I could skip that step and have the user taken directly to PayPal checkout with that total already filled in. Is this at all possible? What are my possiblities? I am NOT any where near a pro at the code writing. I can provide a link to what I have done already if requested.

Skip Validation On Hidden Forms

Aug 11, 2010

In another thread I found that a good way to show and hide parts of a form based on previous entries would be as follows:
function showhidefield (method) {
var hideablearea = document.getElementById("hideablearea");
var hideablearea2 = document.getElementById("hideablearea2");
var hideablearea3 = document.getElementById("hideablearea3");

switch (method) {
case "1":
hideablearea.style.display = 'block';
hideablearea2.style.display = 'none';
hideablearea3.style.display = 'none';
break;
case "2":
hideablearea.style.display = "none";
hideablearea2.style.display = "block";
hideablearea3.style.display = "block";
break;
case "3":
hideablearea.style.display = "block";
hideablearea2.style.display = "block";
hideablearea3.style.display = "block";
break;
default:
hideablearea.style.display = "none";
hideablearea2.style.display = "none";
hideablearea3.style.display = "none";
}}

I know how to use javascript to validate that the forms are infact filled but how do I make it so that it doesn't scan the hidden forms. The only way I could think of would be a huge bunch of if statements. Is there any other way to do this?

Prompt For Adding A Certain Amount Of Sets Of Forms

Aug 15, 2011

I have taken a class and have some experience in JAVA, but I have never used Javascript. I recently took on the task of maintaining my company's new website, and my boss needs a certain function for a form. Here's what I cannot do. I want to have some type of input or menu to be able to pick between 1 and 10. That number will be how many sets of HTML forms will be added (multiple lines of code per number). I am guessing I need a FOR loop and add in document.write("<html>") within it. I know how to do this in JAVA, but I do not know how to get an input (or menu value) to set the counter.

1) My "incorrect" and "correct" messages all appear on the page load. Is there anyway to start without them being there?

2) More troubling: No matter what I put into the input boxes, the "incorrect" message pops up. Basically I need to better understand how to grab the actual input value (it's commented down below so I think that this should be a quick fix!)

Code:
function showAnswer(blurred,response)

JQuery :: Concise Tutorial To Do Remote Validation Of Forms

Jul 19, 2011

I'm brand new to jQuery, and I am really interested in learning about it because of the potential it offers to enhance my webpages. To give you some background, I am self-taught in PHP and MySQL...not on a master's level, but I have designed and built database-driven sites with success and am confident that I can learn jQuery if only I could get pointed in the right direction. I have perused tutorials, links, forums and recently bought the jQuery Cookbook (I needed SOMETHING to go on and it was one of the few jQuery books at the local bookstore that felt as though it would be of help). My problem is, I am finding gaps in information that, to me, are critical to learning. I am looking for a nut-and-bolt approach, 'Do this, then do that' not the typical generalizations I keep encountering.

All I want to do to start with is to remotely validate a two-item form, you guessed it, username and email, against the contents of my database (the info for the validation plugins is just as vague and general). That's it. But the tutorials and examples are vague to me, and in one instance, a link was posted offering to display the server-side validation code used and the link was dead. I can't be the only person here who is stonewalled by these thoughtful, yet overly-general tutorials and books. if any of you have suggestions where I can find a concise, true step-by-step tutorial or book, I would love to know. Right now, it's just one frustrating day of research after another.
