Window.onresize And Text Size Change

Jan 7, 2005

The window.onresize is not called (in Mozilla) when changing the text size on the browser (crtl + or View/Text Zoom).

Is the xAddEventListener function usefull ? What does the "For some browsers the window.onscroll and window.onresize events are simulated." mean ?(found in the X Library function reference).

Getting Window Dimension With Onresize

Apr 10, 2009

I want to make a nice floating bar at the bottom of the screen, which hovers about 15px from the bottom. I am doing this to make a site look good in small and big resolutions. The minimum height for the bar to hover is 600px about, if the window is smaller, it is still there so it doesn't go into the content, if the window is bigger, it will follow the resize and be at the bottom still. It is obviously absolutely positioned, and also centered using some javascript (getting the width of the window).The second function is called in the header and positions the bar. The last two document.get things are just for testing so I can see the height in px somewhere. This works fine in IE. If I resize the window, making it shorter, everything goes as planned, and I can see the pixel count dropping in the header where it is displayed. However, in FF it does not work.

The weird thing is this. If I resize by a small amount, less than 10px, it works fine. However, I can not resize by more than 10px! If I do, the window height shown in the top still drops by only 10px.So if my window is 1000px tall, and I close it to say 500px, the value of the height will still be 990px. If I then resize it to any where higher than the 500px, say 550px, the javascript still sees it as making it smaller, since it says the height is 990px, therefore, the window height goes down to 980px. If I shrink the window to 500px and reload everything is fine, if I make it bigger, it works in both browsers. I am thinking that this could be a problem which is like "sampling rate" in music. When in IE I expand or shrink the window I can see the pixel count drop continuously and the bar floating down as I move the window, as if it was "sampled" every 0.05 seconds or something. In FF, shrinking is not working, but if I expand the window the pixel count doesn't change and the bar doesn't change place until I stop resizing (let go of the mouse button), as if it was sampled once, when I stop, so the problem maybe is related?

Change Html Content If Screen Res/window Size Less Than 1280?

Nov 10, 2010

I have this code that displays all vertical buttons for sharing my content however I want to display horizontal buttons if the user is using a smaller window size. It will have a different div and some of the code wil be changed i.e. "data-count="horizontal".

It would be awesome to also do this via my external JS file so it is not inline.

But that is not essential.

Also using fluid width CSS is not an option due to my having a sidebar with ads that can't be changed in size.

Code:
<div id="sharepost"><div class="sharer"><a href="http://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" data-text="<?php the_title(); ?>" data-count="vertical" data-via="code_love" data-related="love:code">Tweet</a><script type="text/javascript"

Window.onresize Slow (firefox)

Mar 19, 2007

I am attempting to modify the style of an element (its width) as the
window is being resized, in firefox.

Long story short, I've tried to use CSS but one particular part of the
layout just won't do what I need.

The javascript solution assigns a function to window.onresize that
sets the inline style, it works with one problem -- the handler only
gets called after the resizing stops, and so there is noticeable lag
before it redraws.

It is not the function that is taking a long time to execute, its
appears to be firefox's handling. It doesn't call it as frequently as
I expected.

Is there another javascript method to accomplish this without the
extra lag?

Window.onresize, Width & Scrollbars

May 17, 2007

I'm listening for the window.onresize event and trying to get the document.body.clientWidth afterwards to make sure a wide block fits onscreen. I'm working in Firefox and the thing is, when a scrollbar is added to the page due to content getting longer, the body.clientWidth gets smaller, but the window.onresize doesn't fire (I guess this makes sense as the window hasn't been resized per se).

I am assuming that I will have to check the body.clientWidth manually after the content gets longer and then call my resize function if so. But is there a way to achieve this or watch body.clientWidth other than window.onresize?

Change Text Size If Browser Is Internet Explorer?

May 27, 2010

I build a website with Typo3 and it works fine, except for the text size in Internet Explorer (and Opera). I tried anything from changing the CSS templates (excluding them) to changing px to pt to em and so. Finally, I think i need a Javascript that detects the browser and if it is Internet Explorer (or Opera) the textsize should be reduce by 1. It therfore should be the same like manually clicking in IE on View->text size -> smaller (default is medium).

My javascript (I just use Javascript for this single purpose) does not work/it does not do anything:

function resizeText(){ if (browserName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer") {document.body.style.fontSize = parseFloat (document.body.style.fontSize) -1 ;}}

How To Get Window Size (not Viewport Size)

Apr 6, 2010

I'd have thought this would be easy but I've been looking for hours and all I can find is info on getting the viewport size, which is normally useful but not in my situation.

In this case I need the actual browser size, including the scrollbars, toolbars, status bars etc. to get an idea of browsers which aren't maximised/full screen and how big they are, and to calculate the amount of the screen taken up by toolbars etc too.

Need To Customize The Size Of The Window.open Window For Different Links

Jul 23, 2005

I've got this row of images (in the end there will be more rows of pics
as well). When a user clicks on the image, I want a new window to open
with a larger version of the image. I want that new window to be
customized to the size of the new larger image. Also, when users go
back to see other images in their larger size, I want the new window
(assuming they never closed the first one) to come back to the front.

I've only gotten as far as getting the larger images to open in a new
window at a set size in the function. I thought I could just make
specific scripts for each image, but that would be cumbersome to say
the least....

Change Image Size With DOM

Jul 9, 2007

I have following image on my page, I use it as a spacer gif to get correct columns sizes.

<img id="leftcolumnspacer" src="images/spacer.gif" alt="">

I also enable the admin to preview the site in an iframe and change size of for exp. left column. Playing with td sizes do not give me exact pixel sizes, so I would like to make sure that a td is displayed correctly, by resizing the spacer gif.

var LeftColumnSpacerWidth = myForm.leftcolumnspacer_width.value; // comes from the form
var leftcolumnspacer = frames['testsite'].document.getElementById('leftcolumnspacer');
leftcolumspacer.style.width = LeftColumnSpacerWidth;

Why would this code not change the sizes of an image dynamically?

Change Font Size Of #s In Address?

May 21, 2009

I operate as a admin a online print site where clients can enter in contact info to create imprint on promotional items.

I create pdf templates with field placeholders |1.1|[address]

This template is uploaded to the print site which interprets the tags and makes them into variable fields for clients to enter in their info. The site can pull the font name, size, position, etc... from the pdf template.

For each info field that the site creates it also has an option to apply javascript to that field. So if the template predefines font size X, I just want to apply code that will affect only the numbers of that text and make the numbers a larger font size than the letters.

The code I'm use to writing is pretty simple stuff for example to format dots instead of dashes for phone numbers like:

if (hasValue(curInput.name))
{
if (! AutoFormat(curInput, '###.###.####', 'Please enter your number in a 555.555.5555 format'))curInput.focus();
}
