User Friendly Anti Spam Email Script

Dec 22, 2003

We don't like putting our email addresses on our pages because we know we'll be spammed big time!

Of course you could use javascript and 'document.write' it out, but who wants script tags in his body? I don't!

So today I made the below and I thought I'd share. It kinda explains itself better then I ever could so. Code:

Anti Email Address Theft + Mouse Over

Jan 30, 2003

I woud first of all like to post this nifty little script to stop robots stealing your email address from your website:

<script LANGUAGE="javascript">

var first = 'ma'
var second = 'il'
var third = 'to:'
var address = 'USERNAME'
var domain = 'HOTMAIL'
var ext = 'COM'
document.write('<a href="');
document.write(first+second+third);
document.write(address);
document.write('@');
document.write(domain);
document.write('.');
document.write(ext);
document.write('">');
document.write('Email Me</a>');

</script>

All you need to change is the Address, Domain, and Extension.

Secondly, I would like a little help with adapting this code. My problem is that I want to incorporate this code into a mouse over code that exchanges the picture. (see here:Email Test page (http://akhet.port5.com/email.htm), where I have put the two codes on one page but they are not combined properly yet.)

The end result would be a mouse over picture exchange that the visitor can click on to email me and no robots can steal my email address.

Any one know how to combine these two scripts effectively?

Sending Email When User Clicks Link

Dec 7, 2010

I want to send a simple email with just email & subject only when the user clicks a link that opens a pdf. I'm thinking javascript is the best way to do this but I have no idea how. I have googled it a bunch but most information is about getting an email when someone clicks a link you send in an email. I don't want that. This is on a website. I'm not sure if php would be better to use.

User To Be Able To Check To See If There Data Is Valid And Then Click To Send The Email

Oct 6, 2009

So I have a new window document write which outputs all my data after validation into a new window, I have tried to write a button which will (when clicked) send that information to an email address. here is my code so far. i spent about 2 hours checking and playing around looking for errors couldnt find any. I think the problem is the function EmailForm and function subwrite. Is a button written into a new window a common thing to do? or is there another simpler way, however i want the user to be able to check to see if there data is valid and then click to send the email.

Email Form Info Based On User Input In Previous Page?

Nov 7, 2010

I'm just starting up in web design and I have an interesting challenge that I'm hoping can be solved w/java script. I have a site with an application form. When the form is to be submitted, the form data needs to be emailed to the correct person to handle that particular application. However, that can't be determined by anything specific in the form. It can only be determined by the link that they clicked on to get to the form. I really don't want to have 22 identical forms with just a different EmailTo addie, which is what the previous site developer did. Someone please tell me this can be done w/java script? If not w/java script

Open A Small Form Window That Allows User To Input An Email Address And Update It To Proceed

Aug 30, 2011

I found this forum while running out of ideas and being extremely desperate to fixing a probably small javascript error in a script. the script is supposed to open a small form window that allows the user to input an email address and update it to proceed. the form item is initially unchecked, but as the user clicks it and enter his email address, it updates the value of the email address and the box becomes "checkable". the problem is that with both IE and firefox, the box doesn't close again, doesn't get checkable and basically doesn't work. in the firefox debugging console, I found the following error:

Quote:

The part responsible in the javascript for this section is:

And the html code that is supposed to pop up the box is:

Spam Problem

Mar 21, 2007

I have a spam problem and since it partly involves js, I hope the thread belongs here.

Basically, I get a lot of a particular kind of spam which somehow circumvents my efforts to block it.

My (crude?) method is to require the form user to read a group of letters from a graphic (which admittedly never changes) and enter them into a form field.

The external .js file then checks to see if the code has been entered correctly. If not, no Submit is possible. It seems to work well except for one particular kind of spam (which means it doesn't work well enough!).

And I can't understand how this apparently automatically generated spam gets through. What is going on?

Here is an example:

Spam Reduction Code

Aug 11, 2005

I found this nifty little JS that helps reduce mailto: spam spiders.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!-- Begin

it1 = "mail";
it2 = "to";
part1 = "some";
part2 = "one";
parta = "domain";
partb = ".";
partc = "com";

document.write('<a href="' + it1 + it2 + ':' + part1 + part2 + '@' + parta + partb + partc + '">');

document.write(part1 + part2 + '@' + parta + partb + partc + '</a>');
// End -->
</script>

I love it, and it certainly seems to help, but it actually displays the e-mail address. I'd rather it display a name. Ex. Show "Someone" instead of "someone@domain.com" which is what it does now.

JQuery :: Validate - Honeypot Validation To Control SPAM?

Sep 10, 2010

I am using jquery with my wordpress blog to post information to my online CRM system ( capsule CRM) Everything is working great, except that I am getting tons of SPAM.

The folks at capsule suggested that I add a field,called comment, and then using CSS hide it from a human user.

<input id="comment" type="text" name="COMMENT"/>

CSS Entry
#comment { display: none; }

The idea would be that a SPAMMER would add information to this field. if the field has data, then it should not post.

how do I get Jquery validate to make sure this field is blank before it posts.

Frames Revisted - Friendly Rediect

Jul 23, 2005

many framed sites have an ancient script in all their pages:
if(top==self) top.location=theframeset

Some friendlier ones do this:
if(top==self) document.write( '<a href=frameset>This page is '
+ 'supposed to be frames</a>.' )

These scripts fail when the page is loaded within somebody's else's
frameset.

Then top is not self but not a very cooperative top either. And with ever
growing security issues browsers have become quite paranoid. Even testing
for top's origin results in an error:

alert(top)
// gives me [object]
var s='' for (var i in top) s+=i+' '+top[i]+'
' alert(s);
var obj; try{ obj=top.location; } catch(e) { obj='' }
// give me [access denied] (of course)

I 'd rather drop the frames altogether, but the site has been like this for
years and the client insists. There are frames. So how would I detect when
it is appropriate to write:

<a href=>View this page in its <b>own</b> frames.</a> ?

Question b:
in the frameset, a little script looks into self.location.search for an url
with which to fill the main frame. Is there a way to avoid document.write
and onload?

SE-friendly Link With Actual Destination Different?

May 11, 2010

I need to have certain links on my site appear to go one place for search engines:

<a href="http://example.com" ...

but go through an intermediate script to track clicks:

... onclick="window.location='http://example.org/track.php?id=112';">

I suppose that's easy enough, but, if the user doesn't have Javascript enabled, I'd like the click to still go through the tracking script.
