Add An Email Validation To New User Registration Form?
Oct 7, 2009
I am looking to add an email validation to my new user registration form. Currently, we do not validate (or activate) a new user via an activation link in the email. We don't have that process. I'd like to get my hands on the code to randonly create a security code and the actual code to sent the validation email. Can anyone help me out here? I'm absolutely new to PHP or ASP coding. I do know some HTML.

I'm trying to create a simple registration form with ajax validation. I've got the form working almost how I'd like... a message appears on the page with the errors for each field entered incorrectly.
The problem is all the error messages appear in one div together and I would like to have each field have its own div containing only its own error.
I think I need to wrap my error messages in xml and use something like this -
Code:
- but can't seem to get it working
Does anyone know how I should modify my code to do this?
Attached are the 3 I'm currently using
And Here is my code for my ajax page only.

I have a form which mostly works and validates with javascript Name, details, email, etc.
However the email bit is happy to validate with just @. instead of a@b.net/com/whatever.
It's probably a really simple fix, but I'm still new to javascript.. Hopefully someone can point out what I need to add / change in the following section of script.
if(form.email.value=="")
{
alert("Please Enter Email Address");
return false;
}
if(form.email.value!="")
{
str=form.email.value;
var AtTheRate= str.indexOf("@");
var DotSap= str.lastIndexOf(".");
if (AtTheRate==-1 || DotSap ==-1)
{
alert("Enter Proper Email Address");
return false;
}
else
{
if( AtTheRate > DotSap )
{
alert("Enter Valid Email Address");
return false;
} } }

I am in need of some very simple javascript to validate email address and a phone number from a form.
The email address only needs to:
1. Check that the box is not empty.
2. Check that the text imputted contains an '@' symbol.
3. Check that the text imputted contains atleast 1 Period.
The phone number only needs to:
1. Check that the box is not empty.
2. Check that there is no more than 11 characters.
3. check that only numeric characters have been inputted.
I would like it to report (failure) back as text on the page under the box that has the problem rather than a window.

I have this form validation code
function check_email(mailstring)
{
valid = "1234567890qwertyuiop[]asdfghjklzxcvbnm.@-_QWERTYUIOPASDFGHJKLZXCVBNM";
for(i=0; i < mailstring.length ;i++)
[Code]....
at the moment its checks that someting has been enetered in all these fields,
what would be the best way to check that the email or phone nummber had been entered?? will not send if nothing enetered, but will send if one or both have been enetered?

I want to make a login area and a user registration page. I don't want to build this from scratch, so I'm looking for a script or application that I can insert into my website.I know WP and Joomla have a login area and a user registration page, only I'm looking for a lighter version. A login area like WP or Joomla but without all the other features that I don't need.

I'm just starting up in web design and I have an interesting challenge that I'm hoping can be solved w/java script. I have a site with an application form. When the form is to be submitted, the form data needs to be emailed to the correct person to handle that particular application. However, that can't be determined by anything specific in the form. It can only be determined by the link that they clicked on to get to the form. I really don't want to have 22 identical forms with just a different EmailTo addie, which is what the previous site developer did. Someone please tell me this can be done w/java script? If not w/java script

The little addon you have for user registration where they have to click the box serveral times - is that something you made, or is that something you found?
It would be awesome if you guys would let me convert that into a drupal module - as my site has been getting hit by several spammers, and im not a fan of captcha as much as I am your module.

I found this forum while running out of ideas and being extremely desperate to fixing a probably small javascript error in a script. the script is supposed to open a small form window that allows the user to input an email address and update it to proceed. the form item is initially unchecked, but as the user clicks it and enter his email address, it updates the value of the email address and the box becomes "checkable". the problem is that with both IE and firefox, the box doesn't close again, doesn't get checkable and basically doesn't work. in the firefox debugging console, I found the following error:
Quote:
The part responsible in the javascript for this section is:
Quote:
And the html code that is supposed to pop up the box is:

I am a student and new to JavaScript, my problem is I am willing to do JavaScript form validation for emails , text etc.But on one of the forum I found out JS is not a very good way to do validation as JavaScript can be easily turned off by end-user and we shld always do server side validation also, but due to some concerns I want to stick to JavaScript (client side) validation.My scenario is somewhat like Ive a form and a button in it which on being clicked calls a JavaScript function that will validate the fields and then submit the form through form.submit();So my question is if JavaScript is turned off on end user then with validation the end user will also be not able to submit the form as the form is being submitted in a JavaScript function (which is turned off)? If this is thn cool.But is it somehow possible to hack this procedure, and one can skip the JavaScript validation but can still submit the form?

I am using the jquery validation plugin to validate a form's email address field. The validation works but with the minor exception that when trailing whitespace is entered after the email the validation fails. I'm not sure if this is because of the regexp or a missing trim.

I am creating a form for a registration that asks the participant if they have completed pre-requisite training. There are three questions they are asked. When they click yes, the text box for the requested information is enabled, when they click no, they get a warning that they need to register first.
Here is the javascript
The first one works fine (the SERE training question), however, the second one does not function at all. What am I missing to enable the second question to function like the first.

Last week after much searching, I found the answer to my problem in
this newsgroup. I can't find the thread from which I got my solution,
but I wanted to report back what worked.
When the site visitor fills out the form and submits it, this calls a
rather ordinary asp script like formmail.asp that sends the emails and
displays a "thank you" web page. At the very end of my "thank you" web
page I placed the following:
<script type="text/javascript">
location.href="FileToDownload.exe"
</script>
This causes the file download to get triggered, and asks the user if
they want to save the file. In limited testing this appears to work
fine in both Firefox and IE.

I'd like to have one form that has username and password at the top and if that is all the user supplies, then try to log him in. Otherwise, validate all fields for registration.
The problem then lies in the remainder of the form which has email, name and password confirmation. I still want to run validate on those fields but ONLY if the user has typed at least one character in any one of them.
Is there a way to do this? Or an example somewhere? Can validate for certain fields only be turned on IF a certain other condition is met?

I am building a large registration form. In this form, a sponsor/educator must register himself or herself and then may add up to 6 more " delegates" in pairs. The first two pairs registration info on the form is shown by default. I need to hide the other two pairs until when/if the user clicks on a button to add two more delegates at a time. I used javascript to show or hide the parts of the form that I had put into two divs and adjusted the css display attribute. However, my problem was that, if the user filled out the sponsor/educator section and the first two delegates, and then decided to add two more, when the user clicked on the button to show the part of the form for delegates 3 and 4, it reset all the previous visible form fields to empty. Not good. So, I thought, maybe AJAX.
I created the request object (I am a relative novice at AJAX), had it grab a text file with the code to insert into my target div, in this case a div with id = "delegate3and4". Surprisingly however, it still reset the previous form fields to empty. Am I misunderstanding how AJAX is supposed to work? I figured that, because it does not refresh the page that this would not happen. In fact, to test this out, I created a simple page from scratch with just a single input field and then used AJAX to insert the file in a div after this field and it did not reset the previous input. So, I am totally confused about why this would be happening on my live page. The page is a php page as it submits the form to a php script for processing but I don't think this should make a difference.

I'm creating an AJAX user validation so that when a user types in a username, it checks it in the database to see if it exists. I want it to execute after the user finishes typing. I've tried using:
$("#username_field").keyup(function(){
which works, but I don't want a query executed every time the users presses a key. I was wondering if there was a better way to do it. Meaning I what the check to be preformed after the user finishes typing.
