View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a page with a textbox that I want to have a message written inside it that will dissapear when the user clicks in the text box and writes something and it will show up again if the user clicks somewhere else but hasn't written anything inside the textbox. So I am using the onfocus event in order to write "Enter your email here" and the onfocus event in order to show the "Enter your email here" message inside the textbox if the user clicks somewhere else in the webpage but has left the textbox blank. If however the user has written, for exampl "jim@yahoo.com", I want this to remain in the textbox.What am I doing wrong?
Code:
<html>

I´m trying to call both events "onMouseOver" and "onMouseOut" from a single function, but I just can´t seem to make it work.
Here´s an example:
JavaScript -
Code:
// Funcao teste
function teste()
{
onLoad = onMouseOut.images[0].src='../img/teste_menu.jpg'
onLoad = onMouseOver.images[0].src='../img/teste_menu_on.jpg'
}
HTML -
Code:
<a href=# onclick="sigem(ཇ');" javascript:teste();><imgsrc="../img/teste_menu.jpg" width="100" height="20"></a>";
I am trying to tie the value of an image src to two onChange events. the events are drop down boxes in a form. I do have a couple of single event driven peices working so I think my logic is sound. I originally tried to do this with multiple if statements that tested both conditions/events. I have since given each event it's own function. I have no idea what i am doing wrong. the onChange events have no effect on the image display at all. The default image just stays in place. My JS knowledge is limited but it looks correct as far as I can tell. What am I missing.Here are the functions:
Code:
function dropdownimageMidC()
{
[code]....
$(document).ready(function(){
Here is the application for this javascript.
When the.slide-button-one(top 'Profile', 'Clients' or 'Contact' links) is clicked,#main-content-portfolio (white-background div) slides down and the display is set to none. This reveals#main-content-info (grey-background div).
Currently however, the display value of #main-content-portfolio is set to none BEFORE the slide. How can I switch this order of events?

I know that using <a href="javascript:"> and <sometag onclick=""> is evil, but in this particular situation it is quite hard to avoid it due to external powers Anyway here is the issue itself : putting javascript strings inside HTML attributes :
Code:
<button onclick="DoSomething('string')">
Everything is fine until there are single or double quotes INSIDE the 'string' value. Having a double quote inside the string, even JS escaped leads to the onclick argument value being cut :
Code:
<button onclick="DoSomething('str"ing')">
If you replace the double quote by '"' then you don't get a double quote inside DoSomething (you could always replace " by " in JS).
Similar problem if you choose to enclose the onclick argument in single quotes and happen to have a single quote JS escaped inside the string.So, is there any other way of dealing with potential presence of single AND double quotes in the 'string' value, other than replacing them before by ' and " and then replacing them back inside DoSomething ?
I have about 10 JQuery Books and they all talk about using Ajax(JQuery Load function) to insert either an HTML page or fragments of an HTML page into another page.
However, amazingly none of these books mentioned getting multiple items using the same function(document.ready).
Here is what I mean. I have a document.ready function which I use to get specific content from a page. However, to get additional items, I need to set up additional document.ready function.
So if I was retrieving 3 sets of content from a page, I will set up my script like this:
Code:
And the HTML
Code:
Is there a leaner better way to do this? Again all the books tells you how to grab a content, which I have done but do I have to create a new function for each item?
We are building a web app that will require non-technical people to build and edit a single HTML "home page". Ideally it would allow them to add blocks of text and images to the page, change simple styles, and add and maintain links.
I don't even know how to go about searching for such a thing. It's basically like a single page simple CMS. Something like CKEditor could be used for the individual blocks, but I was wondering if there was anything out there that allow us to put this together rapidly via the power of jQuery.
I found "editease" [URL] which looks close... but it's a bit out of date and it depends upon PHP. We run ColdFusion, but could port over PHP if we needed to.
In a page , i need to give multiple xmlhttp request in a single
page sequencely,
In case of IE browser it working fine,
But incase of Netscape browser, first xmlhttp request is going and
im getting the response for that request, and im sending the second
request but it is not going.
I am trying to do the following,
1. Get a piece of HTML from a db
2. Display it on my page
with a requirement - clicking on any links in that HTML should not take
me away from the page.
This does not only include links which are formed by <a>nchor tags, but
also other ways of doing it, like,
<span onClick='location.href="http://someurl"'> Blah blah..
</span>
In other words, all the events that can be raised by this piece of html
should be blocked.
Setting all the 'onClick's and 'href's to "#" or blank string is
probably a good idea to start with, but the list of all such possible
causes for an event to be raised, may not be very straightforward to
compile.
I was wondering if there could be any way to nullify/block the events
that can be raised by such a piece of HTML.
I have been trying to do the following. Using JS I want to create an
input element (text box) and attach a event listener. I have done in
in two different ways. The first is using xml elements directly (as in
e4x) and the second using the dom method createElement (which is much
clunkier to write). I'd prefer the former. I've included a stripped
down example below.
It appears that when creating an input element using the line:
var inputBox = <input type="text" size="30" />
that it does not have the same properties as when it is created with:
var inputBox2 = document.createElement("input");
because when an event listener is attached using addEventListener, an
error is generated on the first, but not the second.
My thoughts on this are either
1. The namespace for the input element is not correct and whether input
can have a listener attached. However, my guess is that it would not
show up in the first div box. Code:
In the following code I am trying to print out the value of document.body.onclick from javascript:
<BODY onclick="alert('ok')">
...
<script type="text/javascript">
alert(document.body.onclick);
</script>
...
</BODY>
However, the alert in Javascript code prints out "undefined" when I open this page and not the actual value of onclick.
when is bind some jquery events to, for example, <p id="test">. and later i remove this HTML with jquery should i unbind all events first or are they unbinded with removing the html?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using some click events on normal <a> tags. When I rewrite the links within a html() method call, the click events no longer work. I've set up a very simple example here:When the page is loaded, clicking either of the 'link 2' links displays the correct information.When 'link 1' is then clicked, the main information is redisplayed. However, now, the 'link 2' link in the main paragraph doesn't work, although the 'link 2' link in the menu does.

I have been trying to use jquery function .html() but I noticed that it clears all events that are attached to the selectors. Is there a way around this issue? I want to change the content and keep the events.
I am aware of live and delegate functions but I am making changes to an external page so I do not have control over attaching events or knowing what they are at the first place.
I have a problem with jQuery appending new text to a div - but then not firing events attached to the inserted text.Let me explain. I have a div that contains a number of divs - the div has a link and a hidden form. Clicking on the link fires a slideToggle event which reveals the form.When you submit the form AJAX handles it and jQuery builds another div with the correct link and the correct form which it sticks on the end of the list. That all works fine and dandy.What I want to be able to do is to click on the newly-added link and have it behave in the same way as the other elements that were on the page when it was built. However, nothing happens when you click on it. Zip. Nadda. Rien du tout.Usually I have found a way round the problem - but I am slightly stuck on my current project. Apart from forcing a page reload, is there any way to get the browser to see the newly inserted link and apply the jQuery action to it?
View 2 Replies View Relatedstill have a problem with the following code:
<ul>
<li><a class="open-page" href="/somewhere.html">link1</a></li>
<li><a class="open-page" href="/elsewhere.html">link2</a></li>
</ul>
[Code].....
i also tried to use .live() - nothing. the links where opened by thecommon way browser handle this anchors - follow the link ;)
how to handle these added elements?
I've used to an AJAX call to load a HTML table into div. This is working successfully. I know want to use a click event on buttons located within the inserted table.
The click event is triggering on buttons outside the inserted table but not on the buttons within the table.
Do I need to call some sort of refresh function to so that jQuery is able to pick up these events?
I am trying to "ajaxify" my site. Now I have one problem:
$("#posts").children().remove();
$("#tag-sidebar").children().remove();
$.each(data.Tags_Sidebar, function (indexInArray, valueOfElement) {
var insert = $("<li>");
[Code]......
Now when I click one of those links (href1, href2, href3) generated, the click event won't execute! What's the problem? Also, is it right that I have to transfer the valueOfElement over, like I did? What does stopEventPropagation do? Prevent the href from being navigated to? That's what I am trying to do.

I have just started my adventure with jQuery. I wrote a post on a forum and a men wrote me:"Don't mix javascript with the html of the view as in your <body onLoad="load()">, but put it in a different javascript file thatyou include. In the JQuery tutorial there are example of how to attach events to DOM elements without "touching" the html. View 2 Replies View RelatedHere is the layout of my form from left to right, from top to down.
- buttonA, buttonB, buttonC
- textbox, textbox, textbox
- buttonXXX
After the user types in the textboxes and press enter (with the cursor still
in one of the textboxes), buttonXXX should be pressed by default.(the user
is too lazy to take the cursor over to buttonXXX and click).
The problem is the top/left most button (button A) gets pressed which annoys
them to death. So I tried to do this.
In the bottonA's onfocus event handle-
document.forms[0].elements['buttonXXX'].focus() .
Result: ButtonXXX receives focus alright, but the code for buttonA still
executes!
For those who have been using Outlook Express, you must be pretty used to
the fact that whenever you focus on the preview section, the header for the
preview turns from grey to blue, while the text turns from black to white.
Code:
I'm fairly new to this and my code is as follows...
<script language="JavaScript>
var oldValue
function focusElement(theElement) {
oldValue = theElement.value;
return;
}
</script>
Then in the HTML, I have
<select size="1" id="ConfCommentSELECT" name="ConfCommentSELECT"
onfocus="return focusPrecedence(this);">
<option value="0"> - </option>
<option value="1">1</option>
<option value="2">2</option>
</select>
The <select> is with a <form><tr><td>, but I don't see how that would make a
difference. I started using the onchange="return blah-blah-blah(this);" and
that worked so I copied that to the onfocus. What I want to do is to
remember the value of the contents of the <select> before the user changes
it, and compare it to the new value.
