Syntax - Adapt My Working Email Code To Work On A Different Page
Aug 8, 2011
Trying to adapt my working email code to work on a different page... I have VERY little javascript experience...and don't know proper syntax. I want to put this on a page that is created with a while loop (php) and has many members on one page. So it needs a unique identifier for the form (and I think each field in the form) so it will properly update back to the correct section of the while loop (instead of just the top one like it does now.).
Javascript
var thisRandNum = "<?php echo $thisRandNum; ?>";
// Start Private Messaging stuff
$('#pmForm').submit(function(){$('input[type=submit]', this).attr('disabled', 'disabled');});
function sendPM ( ) {
var pmSubject = $("#pmSubject");

I would post some code but my special keys do not work in this form for some reason. but i can assure u i have triple checked all the code against many different sources and its correct.
like i said regular javascript works fine but jquery code will not. any ideas on what i should check/try?

I'm a mediocre website designer i know html , at JS i'm to noob to actualy make something of my own :) just Edit, i'm still learning and atm i'm working on a web project and I'm struggling to find a way to Filter email addresses to redirect my New Members to their e-mail provider, for example if they would register newmmember@hotmail.com to be forwarded to www.hotmail.com so they would login and activate their account, or if they enter @yahoo.com to be forwarded there . Can you please point out a few things i'm eager to learn how to Forward User to email provider after he creates his account . Or how can i forward email to URL inside my webpage , this could help me with another ideea i have, again this would have to be filtered @yahoo.com , @hotmail.com etc , to be forwarded to a local URL inside the site depending on what Email Provider they enter .

I have a frameset and one of the frames contains a page that is created on the fly, an
actual word document. I want to have a button in one of the other frames that emails this created page as an email attachment using the email client (outlook or whatever). I created a function as follows:
<script language="JavaScript">
function mailIt()
var page = parent.QandA;
document.write 'mailto: sendmail@example.com?subject=The
document&Attachment='
document.write page;
}
</script>
Which is then called from a button, but it doesnt work! QandA is the
name of the frame that contains the document I want to email as the
attachment.

i am looking to create a simple travel website where the user inputs details into a form or selects options from a drop down menu. When they submit their details they are taken to another webpage were simple adverts on the side of the webpage will relate to the options they selected from the drop down menus. For example: I select New York, and some dates. The advert on the next page will say 'Going to New York, stay at this hotel'
It will say the same if another city is selected but with the city name changed and the hotel name changed. On the second page i will ask the user to fill in personal details in a form, and again after they click submit, they are taken to another webpage and the advert will change, maybe including their name and some other details.
Is this possible and how would i go about it? The adverts only need to include some simple text for now. If the text can srcoll or move that would be a bonus. I have looked through many books and searched the web and cant find anything. I just want to use the input and selections made from the user to adapt the next webpage.

I have two drop-down listboxes on a page. One listbox is visible and named sParent the other is suppose to be hidden and is named sChild. There are only 2 option values in the sParent listbox and they are vParent and vChild. If the user chooses the vChild option from the sParent listbox, than the second listbox named sChild is suppose to become visible, but if the users chooses any other option value or no option value at all from the sParent listbox the sChild listbox is to remain hidden. Below is the jquery code I am using, and below that is my html code:

I came across a nice looking Syntax highlighter that I wanted to implement on my web page. It's called SyntaxHighlighter by Alex Gorbatchev. I thought I followed the installation steps in the home page manual all right, but apparently i am missing something. All of the necessary .js and .css are included in the proper manner in my code. (Firebug never complained.)

I know I have a simple syntax error. Trying to call a function which changes the style of a div element on mouseover. Heres my code.
Javascript
function countermarker1(){
var box1 = document.getElementById('countermarker1box').style.display
box1 = "block" }
Variable is used cause I will have to use it more often later in the script.
HTML
<div id="countermarker1">
<img src="countermarker.jpg" width="20" height="14"
onmouseover = "countermarker1()"; /></div>
CSS (know its not really relevant just to avoid questions about whether its right)
#countermarker1box {
height: auto;
width: 80px;
display: none;
}
JS and css is externally srced.

They seem to work together. But when I fill in an invalid e-mail address and a valid password, Javascript forgets to check if the e-mail address is valid and sends the form.How can I let both Javascript scripts work better together? Or does someone know how to merge these two scripts?Below the whole code:

I am a novice, almost to an intermediate-level JavaScript guy, so much of this is new to me. I appreciate your patience reading this.
I have a routine that creates some HTML on the fly (updateFilters() function) and after the HTML is created, I attempt to access some fields (elements) on the form itself.
I works fine if I place an alert() statement after the HTML is created, but when I remove, the code errors out.
I have tried the setTimeout() statement, but I cannot grab the element --- undefined or null is returned. It seems that the form is the only element I can get a handle on --- everything else is undefined or null...
Here is the code:
function editQuery() {
var f;
var x;
var myForm = document.forms[0];
// Get the row filters that were used in the last query..
for (f = 1; f < 16; f++) {
var filter = eval("myForm.FilterList_" + f);
if (filter.selectedIndex > 0) {
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
var methodIndex = methodElement.selectedIndex;
var savedFilterMethodValue = methodElement.options[methodIndex].text;
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
var choicesIndex = choicesElement.selectedIndex;
if (isNaN(choicesIndex)) {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.value;
}
else {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.options[choicesIndex].text;
}
updateFilters(filter); // update the filters
// take the saved methods and values and then update the selections
// Alert here makes the code work..
// alert("Try this");
// Wait for HTML..
setTimeout("completeEdit()", 1000);
function completeEdit() {
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < methodElement.options.length; x++) {
if (methodElement.options[x].text == savedFilterMethodValue) {
methodElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
methodElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < choicesElement.options.length; x++) {
if (choicesElement.options[x].text == savedFitlerValues) {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Only display next row if f = 2..
// If only one row was used, no reason display the next row..
if (f == 2) {
displayNextFilter(f - 1); // display it
}
}
clearTimeout(timeOut);
}
}
}
Do I have to pass the object (the form, the elements) to the completeEdit() function in the setTimeout() statement?

I am trying to hide this code:
HTML Code:
using this code
HTML Code:
This works fine when I place this code under the html in the main source, but if I try to add this Jquery code to an external js sheet it doesnt seem to work?
Currently my js sheet is called in the header, when I move this link to the footer of my page the code works again, so Im guessing this has something to do with where the jquery code is placed in relation to the code Im trying to hide?
How I can keep my js in the header but still make the content disappear on click?

I've done my first public XHTML / CSS page, and it looks fine, but in IE6 there's an error message when the page is first loaded that says there's a syntax error in line 2. If I reload the page the error message disappears. I don't have an XML prolog, just

Sorry but I can't get the very first tutorial to work. I put the custom.js in a test_jr directory in htdocs. I also put the starterkit.html file in the same directory. I copied the contents of jquery-1.4.4.min.js into a jquery.js file also in the same directory. Then I did the custom.js page shown here:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("a").click(function() {
[Code]...
I tried clicking on the [URL] and I get the starterkit.html page. If I click on the "some link" it doesn't do anything. What am I missing? There are syntax errors in my editor starting on the line with the asterisks* Why is there an error there? It looks like it closes the click function?

I'm a front-end designer trying to get a javascript email verification script (highlighted below in blue) to work properly in IE7, Safari and Firefox.
In my html layout (posted below) I have a call to the javascript. The form works in IE7 and Safari but fails to perform form verification in Firefox.
A weird note, the form verification works if I place the javascript call before the DOCTYPE declaration in the html.
