I am really not a javascript developer (far more ASP.NET) but I need to set the username of a user in a cookie using javascript. So just before the form is submitted I use
document.cookie="Username=" + document.form.ID.toString();
Where ID is the name of the text box where the Username is input
All this returns is [object].

I am trying to work out if there is a way that I can use a target url as a simple password (or even username) at a log in screen.
Essentially I want to be able to send people to a different URL depending on their login details but without having to do anything too complicated or secure.

Currently I'm trying to do the following:
{
config : {
user : "name",
mod : true
}}
That is JSON nr 1, now I got the following
{
config : {
mod : false
}}
What I need as a result is:
{
config : {
user : "name",
mod : false
}}
If I do a $.extend(json1, json2) then I will lose my user name.
If I do a $.merge(json1, json2) I will keep my username, but my mod will not be overwritten.

So I posted a question on here and I'm pretty new to jQuery... I can't figure out exactly how to do this. I'm trying to, when a field blurs, run a query to see if the username is in the database, and echo whether the username is available or not if it's in the database. I have a little snipet of my page and I just don't see how to specify how to tell the script which input field, when it gets blured, to run the query...

I am trying to set up a page that will allow a user to enter their name into a text field and click a submit button. When the button is clicked, the name that the user entered is passed into a cookie, and displayed on the page at the same time.
However, I am having issues getting the name (i.e. the value of the cookie) to be passed along to other pages within the site as well.
I am using jquery to code the JS with. I have the first page all set up and it works beautifully, but when I try to use the getter for the cookie on the second page I get nothing. I am using a cookie plugin for jquery that I found here.

I put together this quick form that allows a user to sign up - the data.php just basically checks a mysql db if the username exists, and either-if it doesn't exist - create an entry in the database with the username, pw, and email and echo "Congratulations, you are added";-if it does exist - it echo "Sorry but 'xxx' is already taken, try again!";his is the weird part though. This works perfect in FF, but IE6 has a weird issue (I only have IE6 here can't test anything else) - With IE6, if the page is freshly loaded, it gives me the correct message - that is, if i put a non-existent name in, it does the echo"Congratulations, you are added"; but if I click on submit again - it doesn't echo "Sorry but 'xxx' is already taken, try again!"; (it does on FF) -If I start a fresh page and input a name that's already in the database it does echo "Sorry but 'xxx' is already taken, try again!"; -- but if i change the username to something that doesn't exist - it doesn't change the echo (i.e. it still says "Sorry but 'xxx' is already taken, try again!"; - but the record is created in mysql! code:
Code:
<html>
<body>
[code].....

I've been going bonkers trying to find the answer to this question...
I'm hoping somebody out there can help me. Our network environment is
Active Directory and our web server is Windows 2003 IIS 6.
I've got an ASP page that we include into each of our pages to act as
our companywide header. We force users to authenticate into our
Intranet site, and we are able to display the following information
about them on each page:
Welcome (username)
Today is (whatever)
Can Javascript or Dhtml or something else get me this information? We
have thousands and thousands of webpages and I don't want to have to
use the .asp extension on every single one if I don't have to... but I
can't find a way to display the username in the header without it =|
Somebody mentioned using File System Objects, but I haven't yet
experimented in that arena. Code:

Is it possible to use ajaxSetup to define a username and password that will then be used by getJSON? I have an enviuronment where I have a web server that I'm passing a URL to for a web service call that returns me JSON. I'm doing the call via the getJSON method, and get back the data I want, except that I'm being prompted to log in and I don't want the users to authenticate. I need to provide a username and password somewhere in the URL (or additional details) and so added an ajaxSetup call right before I call getJSON to set the username and password as follows:
jQuery.ajaxSetup({username: myusername, password: mypassword });
jQuery.getJSON(url, function (jsonObject) {
//do some stuff
}
);
For some reason I'm still getting prompted for the username and password for the URL, even though they're being set. I'm working with IE6, and jQuery 1.3.2.

Most of the browsers has a feature that prompts the user to save the username or password when filling a form.
I just want to disable this feature. Can i disable this feature using Javascript?
Because there are some users that will not read on the message or information on the pop window that prompts them to save the username and password. I know it can be disabled manually through the browser's preferences.
Is it possible to disable it using javascript?
