SetTimeout On Onkeyup Event ?
Jan 10, 2011
I have an ajax search function. I have an input text field where I type in what I want to search for, but I would like the search to be delayed of a few miliseconds before the ajax search is called. How could I do that?
The search field:
The javascript function:
Here is my ajax search...
I tried different ways but I don't seem to be able to delay the searchPlayer function. Any help on that?
Should I use setTimeout on the input field, or in my function or in another function? And how do I pass the 'this.value' to my searchPlayer function if using setTimeout?

Im using onKeyUp on a text input field and everytime some information is gathered from a database through ajax.
Is there anyway to cancel onKeyUp events that are within X seconds of the previous event trigger? I dont want to use setTimeout because i dont want them called at all.

What I want is a textbox that the user can enter information into. When they press a key the onkeyup event will simulate a function. All that I can do. The function needs to automatically scroll down the page to the anchor that corresponds to the number the user entered. The web page is a factor finding program. You can enter 2 numbers and it finds all the factors of all the numbers between the 2 you entered. Here is the link: [URL] As you can see, when you try to find factors of numbers a new window opens and there is a search box in the top left. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. If you want to check out the code look at the web page but here is the bit that creates the new window

I have the following function that's supposed to say "Please make a guess" 20 seconds after an initial confirmation is displayed. However, it's immediately displayed as soon as someone hits "Cancel". If I change it's time to 40000 (20 seconds after the initial function is called), it does do it 40 seconds total, so it kind of does what I want. So it seems that the second setTimeout is initiated from the time the script is called generally, but I'm looking for a way specifically to have the 20 seconds start only after the "cancel" button is hit.

Why this code doesnot work in IE (I test in htmlKit).

I have problems with this event in more testing examples.
This I found about this problem, but it does not help to solve this thread
Bug problems:<br/>
1. language attribute should not be included. Instead, use type="text/javascript"<br/>
2. onkeyup should be all lower case. <br/>

I'm having trouble trying to check if a key is down, using javascript.The code below is only a simple test script, and should just write "!" while the left arrow key is down.It seems to be able to detect when the key is pressed, but it doesn't stop when the key is released (on Opera at least - unsure about others).btw: I'm not interested in making it work with IE, as I'll be using other stuff which IE doesn't support anyway (Canvas/SVG).
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
// keyLeft should be True if Left Arrow Key is down
var keyLeft;

I have a function that checks to see the number entered in a textfield and then, if greater than 1, will change a radio button from Single to Multiple and visa versa. The function is called from the textfield with an onkeyup="function()". The problem I am having is that it works in IE just fine, but in Firefox it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm not getting any errors and can't seem to see what is the problem.

I have an AJAX script and the input field uses:
<input name="domainname" type="text" class="domainform" onkeyup="javascript:get(this.parentNode);">
to display the search results as the user is typing.
I pretty much know there is a way to do this, but how would I go about making it so that instead of activating the script as soon as a key is typed (onkeyup), it would wait 1/2 second or maybe 1 second before actually going forward with javascript:get(this.parentNode);
This would reduce server stress so that its not taxing the server every time the user hits a key to type something.

I have client side scripting for a text box value which truncates value if user enters more than 255 characters. For this i use both onchange and onkeyUp events. I added Server side validation too(more cautious) to restrict user from continuing the page if he enters more than 255 chars. We are using this product from 7 yeras and yesterday one of the customer said that(he has a screenshot too) he saw the server side error message. this explains that my client side javascript methods doesnot fire. he is using IE browser.

I have a calculation system that uses ajax with php and xml and executes with onkeyup. The only problem with this is the result can be returned before the user finishes entering the entire number. My question is how can I give a delay prior to running the rest of the js.I know how to use setTimeout() but will it get reset out every time the function is called or for example if they enter 5 characters in the form, will the script be called 5 times with a second delay from each or will it only be called once? Is there a performance degradation involved?

I have two text fields, 1) Page Title and 2) URI. As and when the user types in the Page Title, I want the text to be copied straight into the URI text field, but after having made all letters small and replacing ' ' (space) with '-' minus sign.
This is what I have so far:
<script type = "text/javascript">
function transfer(which) {
reg = /s+/;
[code]....
case lowering works fine, but with space replacement, it only replaced the first space with '-', and leaves the rest of the spaces as they are.Hence, this is how it looks:
Page Title: This is my Pompous Page Title
URI: this-is my pompous page title
How can I get it to continue replacing all spaces and not just the first one?

I'm doing some customisation on existing software - my objective was to reflect changes to a form in a separate table.The forms require the user to enter numbers and these are totalled in the final formfieldvia an existing 'onkeyup' function.I used keyup to copy the value typed and add it to the summary table. However in doing this, the existing 'onkeyup' function written into the form no longer works and so the total is no longer displayed. I tried using keypress instead (which still had the same issue), or including the function from the onkeyup in my keyup function, but it just didn't run.how to work around this? I can't modify the existing code.
