Removing Elements With Id = 'link_container'?

Dec 9, 2011

I put this at the end of my code thinking that after the div displays (id = 'link_container') I can eliminate (id = 'link_container') from memory when the script ends so there's a place for another div (id = 'link_container') when/if there's onkeyup event. Wouldn't this little script remove any element with an id = 'link_container' ?

<script type="text/javascript">
var deleteDiv = document.getElementById('link_container');
document.body.removeChild(deleteDiv);
</script>

Removing Child Elements

Feb 17, 2006

The problem is that I'm creating child elements based on an xml document served from a php script. However everytime it is served I'm just appending all the elements to the end of the child list creating copies. So I decided to just remove all the children each time.. But this doesn't seem to be working.

function remove_shouts(){
var shoutbox_div = document.getElementById('shouts');
var shouts = shoutbox_div.childNodes;
for(var i = 0; i < shouts.length; i++){
shoutbox_div.removeChild(shouts.item(i));
}
}

JQuery :: Adding And Removing Elements?

Jul 4, 2011

I'm trying to make a form that will generate some code for game based on what they fill out. The code will be a modification menu of sorts. They will be able to name the menus and submenus and add or remove them if they want. I will need a way to get the information they filled in for each specific menu form, so I figure giving them each a unique id would do the trick. I'm sure there is a MUCH better way to do this, but here's what I have so far:

JQuery :: Removing Elements From A Clone

Feb 15, 2010

I have a block of HTML that I am cloning, as I want to manipulate it to remove an element, so that I can then append that new HTML somewhere else on the page.

[Code]....

Then in the jQuery, I have tried many different ways of removing stuff from that clone, but with no luck. E.g.

var cont = $('#container').clone();
$(cont).remove("copy_btn").appendTo("body");

There are no errors showing up in Firebug, but the html added to the bodu still contains the link with the id "copy_btn". Is this even possible? The api says that remove() will remove matched selectors from the DOM, so as this is just a set of elements is that the reason? If so, is there a way to achieve this, or would I have to append it somewhere on my page and then perform the manipulation?

Adding And Removing Array Elements

Jul 18, 2004

Since the Array.splice() method isnt supported by IE5 here's a script with an add function and a remove function.

function remove(nr) {

var nb = parseInt(nr)

for(x=nb;x<myArray.length-1;x++) {
myArray[x] = myArray[x+1]
}
myArray.length += -1
}

function add(nr,value) {
for(x=myArray.length;x>nr;x--) {
myArray[x] = myArray[x-1]
}
myArray[nr] = value
}

You can test it out by including the following html, and an array in the script (here named 'myArray').

<body>

<form>
Nr to add/remove<input type="text" name="nr" /><br />
Value to insert <input type="text" name="val" />
<input type="button" value="remove" onclick="remove(this.form.nr.value)" />
<input type="button" value="add" onclick="add(this.form.nr.value,this.form.val.value)" />
<input type="button" value="View Array" onclick="aA()" />
</form>

</body>
</html>

And this small function

function aA() {
for(x=0;x<myArray.length;x++)
alert(myArray[x])
}

JQuery :: Adding / Removing Form Field Elements?

Mar 29, 2009

I have just got myself a copy of SWFUpload to show the progress of file uploads, however, it has a few problems, one of which I am trying to fix with the aid of jQuery. Essentially, if JavaScript doesn't load, then a standard input file element will be shown. But, if JavaScript is enabled, then jQuery removes this, and replaces it with all of the input elements that SWFUpload requires. Is this the best way of doing it, or should I be looking at another option? If so, how would I go about telling jQuery to remove and insert the form field, and each and every attribute the HTML will require?

It seems like while the row is removed, some remnants of it remain. Is there a way to get rid of it completely?

Converting HTML Elements Stored Within XML To Usage Js Elements?

Jun 3, 2010

I have HTML tags stored in XML. I want to be able to use these HTML elements with Javascript, just as you can with elements in document.body. How can it be done? (And don't try and tell me I should use server-side because I have written it all for Javascript and the project is nearly complete minus this and there are practical reasons for not doing this server-side. After all, anything is possible with Javascript!)

Let me explain:

- I have HTML templates such as this [URL]

- I want javascript to populate these templates then add them to my page

- The only way I know javascript can get this kind of data is by parsing XML

- I want to parse the XML then be able to use the HTML elements just like those in document.body

- As far as I'm aware, XML is the only good way of storing data for javascript. I don't want to store it in javascript variables (too much multiline data with " and '). Nor do I want to build it using document.createElement("div")... etc

As someone not yet with any experience in computer science etc, please ignore my poor terminology! However, I'm not a beginner when it comes to javascript.

Here's the script concerned but I doubt it'll help you understand my problem: [URL]

Removing Script Tag

Jul 23, 2005

I have an HTML file that has a call to a Javascript function in it as
follows:

<!-- bunch of stuff -->
<script type="text/javascript">doXMLFromString()</script>
<!-- bunch of stuff -->

Now I make a copy of this HTML file by creating a new window and writing

var body = document.body.innerHTML;
printWin.document.write (body);

But this copies the script tag above as well, and then tries to call
that JS function (doXMLFromString). I don't want it to do that.

In other words I dont want that javascript statement to be executed. I
tried removing it from the document (using removechild) however it would
still get called.

How can I stop this?

than using

" ...toolbar=no ..."

is there a way to do it after the browser opened? (say some Java script)

are there any parameters or style like stuff that can be embedded in the
HTML code and does it when the new page created?

or is the above method the ONLY way?

Regexp - Removing From URL

Dec 26, 2005

I am weak when it comes to regexp but hoped someone might know in this case.
I am trying to take a url like this :

something.lasso?blah=blah&blah2=blah2&sort=hello&blah3=blah3

And remove the &sort=XXX without hurting the rest of the url. The parameter
to be replaced would be a parameter passed to a function. Here is what I
have so far:

function refresh(item) {
current = document.location.href;
if(current.match(item.name+'='))
//pseudo code here
//current.replace(item.name regexp , '');

return (current + "&" + item.name + "=" + item.value);

This function would be fired like this :

All <input type="radio" name="show" value="all"
onclick="document.location=refresh(this);">
Mine <input type="radio" name="show" value="mine"
onclick="document.location=refresh(this);">

Removing NAME Attritbute

May 24, 2006

I've been given a large number of HTML pages. Each page has one or more
tags. When the pages were being built I asked that an ID attribute be
included with each element that will later be referenced. The first
ID'ed element on the page has the ID 'item0', the next 'item1' and so on.

Unfortunately they also included a NAME element which in many cases is
similar to the ID but out by one. That is the first element on the page
has the NAME 'item1', the next 'item2' and so on.

This stuffs up some things that depend on the ID (IE seems to make use
of the NAME instead of the ID when I ask getElementByID). Is there an
"easy" way to remove all the NAME attributes, or at least make them
invisible to IE, on page load?

Need Help Removing Content

Jan 4, 2011

My goal with a script I am writing is to remove signatures from a forum I am a part of. Some of the people abuse it with half a page of stuff and it's out of control. So here is what the HTML source code for it looks like

<table cellSpacing="1" width="100%" border="0" class="tback" cellPadding="2">
<tr>
<td width="100" class="headcell">Author</td>
<td class="headcell">Topic</td>
</tr>[CODE]...

The very bottom where it has the 'span' tag and it says "SEC Champions" is where the Signatures are located. I want to completely remove that using my script and this is what I have right now

function sigRemove() {
var sigs = document.getElementsByTagName('span');
for (var i = 0; i < sigs.length; i++) {
sigs[i].style.display = 'none';}}

I know it's incomplete but I only want to remove that bottom span tag and everything inside of it and not every span tag on the page.

Removing An Element With Dom?

Jun 19, 2010

I'm working on a Wordpress site and am using a photo gallery plugin. However, this plugin, for some reason, generates an empty table row and it's messing with my layout because I'm inserting a background image for each of the "TDs". I don't want to mess w/ the core files since the changes will be gone after the next upgrade. check out these two image links to see exactly what I mean.

[URL]

I know there are ways to dynamically remove elements using DOM. Would I be able to use that method here?

-edit- This gallery is paginated and I just noticed that on the last page, the last row actually contains two pictures and a " ". So, a better question would be: Is there a way to target just the td elements that have   in them so I can add a display:none via css?
