Reloading A Frame On A Timer

Jul 20, 2005

Suppose I have two frames, as shown in the script below. One of the frames,
I would like to have reload every ten minutes or so. Hower, the frame I wish
to reload is a php script, which executes and creates a png image which gets
displayed directly to the browser frame (therefore, the image is NOT written
to the server itself, and the page that gets displayed in the frame I wish
to update is a png image mime type).

How can I amend my script in my page which holds the frameset (i.e. the
parent) such that only one particular frame is updated at a fixed interval?

<frameset rows="10%,90%>
<frame src="ggtab1a.php" name="main" scrolling="no" noresize
FRAMEBORDER=0 BORDER=0 FRAMESPACING=0 marginwidth="1"
marginheight="1">

<?php
echo "<frame src="reports/homepages/" . $username.".php" ";
?>

name="work1" FRAMEBORDER=0 BORDER=0 FRAMESPACING=0 marginwidth="0"

Block A Frame Reloading When A Link Clicked ?

Aug 13, 2009

i'm using frames and they are split vertically of 20% & 80% and in top frame i have my site's information and when i ever i click something on the top frame then the lower frame loads content from external sites.

But when i click something from the lower frame , in some sites they are using js to change the location url directly and it reloads the whole page in the current window.

But in such case i dont want to reload the whole window instead change the frame only ..

I cant block javascript on client machine and couldn't ask for that either!!

Related to this i have some doubts, Can i detect the url to which the site is reloading and then reload the frame with that url . I fear thats not possible..!! I used the onbeforeunload function to detect that the site is going to unload and reload a new page . but what i can i do just making sure that the site is not reloaded.

JQuery :: Use A Parent-frame - Objected To Make Child-frame AJAX?

Aug 26, 2011

I have a domain: example.com; which is the parent.And a subdomain: api.example.com; which page 'receiver.html' is being loaded in an iframe, child of parent. Both pages set document.domain = example.com.

I'm trying to adapt this code:[url] but Idon't want to load jQuery from the <iframe> again but I need to have the method $.ajax() working from the <iframe> otherwise it would be a cross-domain request and the browser would abort it. I tried ingenuously to set via $('iframe')[0].contentWindow.$.ajax = $.ajax() and I just got a shortcut to the parent page jQuery method. I also tried to "clone" it using $.expand (true...) but the method doesn't work for me; probably because of the complexity of the objected I'm trying to clone. So is there a way for me to use jQuery to have only a $.ajax() method in the <iframe> ? I've thought even about creating a XHR in the child-iframe and then use that in the $.ajaxSetup ({xhr: THATNEWXHR}) but I couldn't do it. I mean, I want to use the XHR factory from jQuery (which has fallbacks for IE, etc) but it has to be created from the iframe-child.

Maybe there is other way to make the AJAX call come from the child-iframe.

If you're wondering "why don't you load jQuery from <script> in the child-iframe", there is a reason... As I'm using jQuery plugins + my own custom javascripts + other independent scripts I created a compiler which minifies each file and bundle them in one. The advantage of this is the reduction of HTTP requests. So "why don't you load that bundle inside the child-iframe?", because it's ugly and Twitter doesn't... Yeah, I like to take Twitter as a reference and I think if they were able to make it so can I;

I got to work in most browsers except IE and Operaby doing it with pure javascript.

I'm "attaching" the code for you guys to test. If you open it with Chrome, Safari or Firefox you will receive 2 alerts one with the return of $.get() and another with the return of a request made via XMLHttpsRequest object. Otherwise (if you open it with IE or Opera) you'll get 'undefined' in the first alert but the real return in the second.

This is the example.com/index.htm:

Breaking Out Of Parent Frame If Child Frame Changes URL

Jul 19, 2006

I have a parent document that has a frameset with two frames in it. The first frame is a "header" that runs across the top of the site, and never changes. The second frame contains the "content" of the site. Essentially, I am trying to figure out how to prevent the header appearing above external sites when the user clicks an external link in the "content" frame.

Every time the content frame changes to a new URL, I would like the check that URL and determine if the content frame is changing to an external URL (i.e. different domain in URL) or to an internal link (same domain in URL). If the content is changing to an external link, I want to break out of the frame and just load that external link in the top most document.

I would like all of my javascript to be in the parent document, not spread throughout the individual pages of the site. I was trying to approach this by setting the onunload event handler of the content frame, but I am left with a couple of specific questions:
1. In handling an unload event, can you determine the next URL that the document is loading? Code:

Send Variables From Frame To Frame?

May 13, 2009

I use dreamweaver mx html editor to make web sites. I think I know enough Html to get by. My new site uses a frame set so the head and controller don't change reload or move. This works nice, now all I have to do to make a new page is make the content page. But my problem is if I send out a link for someone to look at, it only loads the content page and not the frame set. I thought I could use javascript to determine if the frame set is present and if not load it. But I can't seem to find a way to sent variables from one frame to another. Frame.contentWindow Vs Frame.contentDocument?

Feb 19, 2009

One more question about manipulating iframes. In a script I've looked through to investigate AJAX file uploads, there is this technique for accessing the contents of an iframe:

Code:
if(frame.contentWindow)
{
var thebody = frame.contentWindow.document.body;
}else if(frame.contentDocument)
{
var thebody = frame.contentDocument.document.body;
}

I haven't been able to find much info on contentWindow and contentDocument. In fact, other sources I've found talk only about using contentWindow to access an iframe's contents, ignoring contentDocument completely. What is the difference between the two, and what browsers is the contentDocument check targeting? Any modern browsers, or is this a backward compatibility thing?

Php - Keep A Div From Reloading?

Jul 2, 2010

Basically, I want the same effect as the oldschool html 'frameset' I think.[URL]If a user selects a project from industry -> transportation for example, I would like that the right scrollmenu keeps its initial state when the new project page comes up. So they won't get lost and have to click again to be in the same submenu section.So, the right thumbnail navigation should stay in the same way, I don't want it to reload.Do I have to do it with frames or iframes? Or can I make some kind of jQuery call to 'not reload' that div? Maybe PHP? I'm sorry, I am not a programmer from origin.

Update:I managed to put the whole thumbnail navigation code into a seperate php file, called sidebar.php. Now this gets called in my single.php (Wordpress) by <?php get_sidebar(); ?>.Should it now be easier to make this sidebar.php NOT refresh on page reload? I've been looking at cookies, php sessions, iframes.. but I can't get it to work.

Reloading Original Frameset

Jul 23, 2005

I have a site with frames. Like most sites with frames, clicking
links in one frame changes the page in the other frame.

Obviously, if someone puts in the URL for my site, they will get the
"homepage" when they first get there. What I would like to accomplish
is that if they leave my site, and then use the BACK button to come
back, that the site will open with the homepage, not whatever page
they were at when they left. Is that possible using javascript? If
so, how?

My site isn't actually "on the web" yet, so I can't give you a URL.

Changing The URL Without Reloading The Page

Sep 20, 2005

I have a page that has several layers that I will either show/hide
based on a graphic/tab that the user clicks. (works perfectly)

On several of the layers there are forms that the user can update
information on. Well, after the user updates the information, I need
to 1.) refresh the data on the page(means a reload of the page), and
2.) take the user right back to were they started.

My problem is that when I refresh, the page goes back to the 1st layer
that is set as default to show.

So, here is what I did. I have two functions.

Function 1 is called when the user clicks on one of the tabs (Assets)
in this case. This will 1.) show the Assets tab and 2.) hide all the
rest of the tabs.

Well if I update that form for Assets, I need to 1.) refresh the data
and 2.) bring the user right back to Assets.

What I did for this (please tell me if there is a better way) was to
set a hidden field with the lastlocation of where the user clicked. In
this case the field value is now set to Assets.

So far everything is working great...

Well, if I submit the form because I've updating information, I need to
return back to the assets layer. To do this I set the location.url and
put a var in the url that I evaluate when I OnLoad the page. If the
value = Assets then I am able to show/hide the layers to get to the
Assets.

Again, this works great after much banging of my head against the
wall... Here come the problem.

Because I set the location.URL (I've also tried location.href) the
browser will automatically refresh. I do not want this. I want to set
the url and only refresh when I want to.

For example when I submit a form that updates data.

JQuery :: Reloading A Tab From The Inside Of The Tab?

Mar 30, 2011

I'm working on a website that has four tabs, [#main, page1.html, page2.html, page3.html] if you click on tab2 it will dynamically load page1.html where there is a form that a user will fill out, and when they submit it, I would like to reload page1.html, or tab2 if its easier and in scope, to show new information.

However the only thing I have been able to do is fade out the 'main' div inside this tab, $('#main').fadeOut('slow'); but adding a .load('#main') to reload the div fails.

I've also tried loading ui-tabs-1 but I dont think this will work since page1.html doesnt have it defined, it's part of the page loading page1.html (where all 4 tabs are located)
