Printing CSS Using Document.stylesheets.item(0).cssText?

Sep 2, 2010

On the web application that I am working on, we have a "Print Preview" javascript function which opens a new window and displays some html. In our solution, there is some javascript code that loops through the CSS on the page and renders it onto the child window. I ran into an issue that the CSS it generated was wrong, and I traced it to the .cssText property (only available in IE) of the items returned by document.stylesheets.item(i)

Printing Tag Information Using Document.write

Oct 28, 2007

I have a script that parses an html page for its tags. Now I just want to print it to the screen but so far no matter what I try apache parses the output and uses the tags.

I want to be able to use document.write or some function to output a string that contains tags like <p>whatever</P> exactly like that, as it appears here so it shows up in the page just like that.

for (i=0; i < s.length; i++) {
c = s.charAt(i);
if (c == "<") {
j = s.indexOf(">", i+1);
if (j != -1) {
document.write("tag= " + s.substring(i,j+1));
i = j;
}
}
}
}

JQuery :: Start Items In Queue Of $(document).ready() Not Until All Css Information Of The Prior Item Is Calculated?

May 31, 2010

I have 2 ready items. The first changes the size of the surrounding div, the second tries to find out about the size of the changed div, but only gets the old value before the first ready item started. If i place a new ready item that holds for a second (i.e. an alert box) the calculation of the first ready item is done when the last ready item starts and all works fine. Is it possible for a ready item to wait and not to start until the item before is finished?

Javascript Stylesheets

Jul 23, 2005

I have a large table in html created dynamically. This table can grow
to several hundred rows or more. I have the ability to hide or display
individual rows (using row.style.display = "none") and this works well
in both IE and Firefox.

I would also like to do the same with columns as well. I did some
research and col and colgroup nodes are not supported fully in both
browsers. Also, doing "visibility: hidden" and sometimes "display:
none" don't work correctly. The only solution I know to work would be
to go through each row and set the particular cells in the column using
'td.style.display = "none"'. With that many rows, this is not
efficient.

I do have each cell in the column set up with classes. Its easy in
Javascript to set the style of each cell in the DOM. However, I was
wondering if there is a way to set the style of the class itself? For
example, I have the following class defined in CSS:
.columna { display: none; }
Using Javascript, is there a way to change the value of the style of
the class without having to iterate through each row and cell?
Unfortunately I need to support both IE and Firefox, and for
supportability, I would prefer one solution that works on both OS's (I
already have tons of browser dependant code as it is).

Some Dynamic Creation Of Stylesheets

Oct 22, 2007

I have reason to want to be able to change a Firefox stylesheet rule dynamically. I have found, doing google searches, sites which tell you how to create stylesheets dynamically or just add and delete rules, but none of these pages procedures have worked in my Firefox. Some have worked in Internet Explorer. Most have claimed to be cross browser. An example of one which I had high hopes would work can be found at this link.. The code they give you near the bottom of that page is posted below with the original background color changed to red and some text to see the background color put in the body of the page. In other words I pretty much just pasted the code found their in the head portion of my HTML page.

Attempting to troubleshoot why this code is not working if I use the old alert message method and put an alert message between the lines "var mysheet=document.styleSheets[0]" and the line "var totalrules=mysheet.cssRules? mysheet.cssRules.length : mysheet.rules.length" the mysheet variable region out as being "object CSSStyleSheet", however if I use the newer step through method with firebug it reads undefined. So I am totally baffled. Code:

Stylesheets - Access Unrecognised CSS Rules?

Feb 8, 2010

I am trying to work out how to access unrecognised CSS properties within stylesheets from JavaScript.

Say I have a stylesheet containing the following:

p {border-radius: 20px;}

Now. The CSS3 "border-radius" property is not recognised by any browsers at the moment. In Internet Explorer I can still access the property as follows:

alert(document.styleSheets[0].rules[0].style['border-radius']); // Alerts "20px"

However, Gecko and V8 don't seem to include the rule in their JavaScript engines at all:

alert(document.styleSheets[0].cssRules[0].cssText); // Alerts "p { }"

Does anyone know of any way to access unrecognised rules in these engines? Or even better if there are any scripts or plugins available anywhere that will do this for me?

Switching Stylesheets Across Multiple Pages?

Jul 13, 2011

I'm trying to allow the user to change the stylesheet of my website. I can change the stylesheet on a page by page basis (eg. from red style to blue style) but once the user navigates to a different page the stylesheet resets back to the original setting.

For example, when the user visits the site first its set to the red style, they can change it to blue but when they navigate to another page the style goes back to red again where as I want the style to stick across pages. Does anybody know how I can sort this out?

Printing Other Frames

Jul 23, 2005

I have a frameset with two frames, and want to have a button in one
frame call print() in the other one:

This is the layout:

<frameset rows="*,40" frameborder="NO" border="0" framespacing="0">
<frame src="..." name="pritableText">
<frame src="..." name="printButton" scrolling="NO" noresize>
</frameset>

And, in printButton, I got this code:

<a href="#" onClick="parent.printableText.focus();
parent.printableText.print();">Print the page</a>

However, nothing happens in Netscape (7.01) and Firefox (0.8), and in IE (6)
I get an "error in the script". However, I do not identify the error.

Does anyone have a clue onto what's happening?

Printing Envelopes From The Web

Jun 7, 2007

We have clients asking that we provide an easy way to print envelops
from within our web applications. These envelopes need to be pretty
advanced, and need to include a bar code and maybe even a logo. My
boss wants a solution where we simply "push" the Word or ODF file to
the client's computer and it automatically prints on their printer.
I actually think that is what our clients are hoping for as well.
I've told him I am pretty darn sure that can't be done, because both
Word and Open Office files may contain viruses.

My suggestion has been to generate a Word or ODF file that the user
can download, open and then print. Alternatively, we could probably
generate a PDF to accomplish the same thing. These solutions might
involve extra steps, but I know they are possible.

I want to make sure there isn't some other alternative we haven't
considered, so I thought I would email this group and see if anyone
has some suggestions as to how they would approach this problem.

Printing - Fit On One Page

Aug 18, 2005

I have a calender I made in PHP and when you choose a week in opens up in a pop-up window. I have a simple JavaScript to display a print button. The problem is that the calender is very wide, so you have to print it as a "landcape", but even then the whole thing doesn't fit on the paper. Furthermore, it doesn't fill out the paper in the top and bottom.

It's a bit hard to explain, but I hope you understand what I mean. How can I make it fit the paper when being printed? Here's the JavaScript I use:

<script language="Javascript1.2">
<!--

var message = "Print this Page";

function printpage() {
window.print();
}

document.write("<form><input type=button "
+"value=""+message+"" onClick="printpage()"></form>");

//-->
</script>

I have found out a way, in which the reports can be printed , but
the print dialog box is coming up each time( eg. for 4 reports it is 4
times, and for n documents it would be n number of times ) ; which I
find very irritating . I would rather prefer a single print dialog box
coming up for n number of reports .

Style Display:none And Printing

Jan 4, 2006

Situation:
A (rather long) page that contains a lot of divs.
Some are visible (display:inline) at a certain time, other not.

The javascript is responsible for divs to be visible or not.

Question:
If the browser is displaying some divs, and the user gives a printcommand
for the page, can I be sure only the visible parts are printed?

On my machine this is working fine (W2000/IE6), but I hope it will work on
all setups that support display:inline and display:none (= every modern
browser I think).

Could this give problems for different printers/printdrivers?
Or can I trust that if the browser can handle divs right, it will send the
correct commands to the printer?
