The following scenario:
var myobject = new object (settings);
$('#button').click(function () {
//execute a method from myobject (usually called with "this.methodName(),")
});
I don't know how to pass myobject to the anonymous jquery function. But I cannot execute the method without referencing it. How can I get this done?

I am making a small gallery script. When a user clicks an image, I would like for a function to be called that tells the browser where that image is located in an object. For example:

It works, I just don't like it because it is messy and it seems sensible that some workaround exists.

I know just enough javascript to be dangerous, I created a 5 star rater for pages, which is set up something like this:
Code:
var starRater=function(id){
// get latest rating info from server, write into "id" div, etc
}
//later in code...
var rating=new starRater("rating");
Over the course of development I added a comment section, page visit count and so forth, and ended up with redundant code and a lot of calls to the server. I thought instead I would make one initial call and then initialize the elements with the information returned.
To be able to call the initialize function on these elements, I need some reference to them. I could call them directly, as in the example above I could call rating.init(), but I'd have to know what variable name was given to it. Instead I was thinking I'd pass some sort of reference to the object, but that doesn't seem to be working.
[Code]...
In the code above I get undefined for raterElem.testVar. Obviously I'm missing something. What am I doing wrong?

Can assign a new function to a built-in object in Firefox:
But IE and Opera don't have a MouseEvent or HTMLElement that can be set up in the same way. Can you do this in IE or Opera, or just Firefox, and maybe Webkit?

My question is commented in the script:
function Love(){
var req = {
ring : 'gold',
[Code]...
console.log(details.ring); // why does this return gold and not silver if req is passed by reference and we already changed its value above and so it's pointing to the same memory position?

I have implemented an Ajax object - a div containing another ASP file which can be updated dynamically. This ASP page has a number of checkboxes. Is it possible to use JS (or any other tool) to check the checkbox status (i.e. like javascript's if (field.checked)

But now the form is in the Ajax object's ASP file, so "document" wouldn't work.

I have a fairly complex javascript object - containing strings and arrays - which I need to pass along to a second PHP page. Is there a way to pass this object along via POST to be picked apart by the receiving PHP script?
I could dynamically create a form, populate it with the contents of the object, then pass it along via submit(), but frankly that's an awful pain.

I am trying to make a function that checks/unchecks a checkbox when a specific <td> is clicked. I need to use this same function for several checkboxes in the page so I want to just pass it the name of the checkbox I want to affect as a variable and use it in the object reference lines. BUT, this doesn't work. I can pass the variable to the function as I've used alert(variable) to test this. But it doesn't work when I put it in a line like this "document.forms[0].variable.checked=true;". Code:

I have a function that changes the innerHTML of a DIV element. I want to pass to that function as a parameter a reference to the DIV to be changed. In the example below it works the first time (executed with the body onLoad event). As the subsequent function declaraton is rewritten by the function itself, it can no longer reference the targeted DIV. I tried to pass a string teference and use eval(), but this time it fails the third time it is executed.
Code:

I created a quick plugin. You can see it at http: [URL]. It has a strange feature. This plug-in treats the jQuery wrapper object as a group, and passes the whole wrapper in as the context object (the "this") for the functions supplied. Generally, when functions are supplied as parameters, either the context is irrelevant, or each DOM element in the jQuery wrapper is passed. But I don't do that. My plug-in keeps a reference to the jQuery wrapper and calls the functions in that context. This is necessary, because the whole idea is to act on a number of elements as a group -- in this case by fading in and out all members of the group when any individual one is hovered -- but I don't recall seeing this done elsewhere in the jQuery ecosphere.

So, I read about the new method of passing an object map containing element properties when creating a new jQuery object (as discussed at the bottom of this article). The article says that it supports ALL events, but only gives examples of simple events that require no parameters. I'm trying to implement a live event using the following and can't get it to work:
var link = $('<a />', {
text: config.appendTextMore,
href: "#",

I have come across an issue that only happens with IE.I have a custom save function that is designed to handle different ajax submits but I will simplify it for debugging. The issue is that once I make a submit everthing is fine at first. Then once I try to submit a second time it craps out. I am checking to see if there is an onsubmit function and then executing it like so before continuing. After the inital submit it is no longer found. When I alert the typeof document on the form it returns object but when I add the onsubmit it says object expected or object is null or undefined.
Code:
function secureBarSubmit(formId)
{
alert(typeof document.getElementById(formId)); // object always
alert(typeof document.getElementById(formId).onsubmit); // func first time then it is broken
[code]...

it just shows [object object], [object object], [object object]. Why is this and what can I do to make the record be shown as it is above in an alert?

Is there any way at all to create a new template object that inherits from the built in Date object so as to be able to add new methods to that child object without adding them to the built in Date object? I've tried everything I can think of and as far as I can tell it keeps referencing the Date function instead of the Date object and so doesn't work.

On my index page load (only in Internet Explorer), a message box pops up saying "Message from Web Page [object Object]". After clicking OK the photo gallery loads and there is no problem.No idea how to fix this, or really what the error means. You can view the error from my site here

I am trying some simple things with javascript and trying to use it in a object oriented way. However I am now facing a problem in which I can't access an object variable from an object method. I am using jQuery.
My code is as follows;
Code:
My problem is that the variable msg1 does not work when accessed from function called from the jQuery get function. I get the message undefined. Therefore I am wondering, is there a way how I can access msg1 of my object instance from the get function of jQuery?

How would I go about copying all the prototype functions AND the constructor from one object into another object, and then call them?
I know I can use this.example.call(this), but that's not an acceptable solution. I want to deploy this style over dozens, potentially hundreds of objects.
