Parent.replace Not Working In FireFox
Sep 14, 2004
I am new to this browser.
I am using IFrame tag to display some dynamic information and using
parent.location = New_url;
parent.replace();
To replace current page with new_url data. That works on IE, Netscape, Mozilla, but somehow not working in fireFox.

To sum up this issue, I have a parent page, which holds some values in hidden input fields passed to them from the url. On this page, I have an iframe with a form in it, to which I want to pass values from these hidden fields to be displayed for the user in the iframe form. In IE, it works. To accomplish this, im just simply doing a <body onload="GetInput()">. The GetInput function does the following, but for about 10 fields:
Fnamefield=document.getElementById('firstname').value = parent.document.getElementById('firstname').value; Thats it. Once the page loads, i see my values. In firefox it does not work. I know the hidden fields are getting their values, but thats as far as it makes it. I have tried calling the GetInput function after the form is written out and not in the body tag, which still works for IE, but not FF.

this is my code:
CSSStyleDeclaration.prototype.__defineSetter__('di splay',
displaySetter);
function displaySetter(value) {
var parent = findParent(document, this);
if (parent) {
if (parent.tagName == 'TD'
&& value.toLowerCase() == 'inline' ) {
value = 'table-cell'
}
}
this.setProperty('display', value , 'important');
}
function findParent(obj, style) {
var nodes = obj.childNodes;
if (obj.style == style) {
return obj;
}
for(var i = 0; i < nodes.length; i++) {
var suBsearchResult = findParent(nodes[i], style);
if (suBsearchResult) {
return suBsearchResult;
}
}
return false;
}
As you can see each time I need to scan whole document for parent which I would like to avoid. Is there any other way to get an object on which style is applied to?

I need to know how to open a pop up and close the main window without
a prompt in Firefox 2 and IE 7. Anybody have any ideas on how to do
that.
I currently have this and it works in IE 6 and Firefox 1.5:
function windowClose()
{
if(navigator.appName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer")
{
this.focus();self.opener = this;self.close();
}
else
{
window.open('','_parent',''); window.close();
}
}

I have one page with <select> list in it, which opens a popup with
another <select> list. Those two list are linked... When I select
something in the list that is in popup window and confirm the selection
(by pressing button), I call a function that fills the "parent" window
and forces popup to close. All this is accomplished by directly
accessing another list:
for(var i = 0; i <= selLength; i++){
name = parent.window.opener.listValues.options[i].text;
value = parent.window.opener.listValues.options[i].value;
self.document.form1.itemList.options[i] = new Option(name, value);
}
And this doesn't seem to work with IE. With Firefox is OK.
Any ideas how to make it work with IE?

The code works fine in every browser except for IE, and am wondering why...
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onbeforeunload = null;
$(document).unbind("m1");[code]...
Googling got me some people experiencing problems in there's a charset, and I did have one. Even taking it out, it still won't redirect. If I put <?php echo 'Ok'; ?> just before <script>, it'll print it out in IE, so, I know that it's getting to this point.... Just don't know why it isn't actually going to the location.replace URL.

I am working on a Javascript application and i am facing a strange behavior of the application in IE. I am creating a table at runtime using DHTML and registering event for the table row click. When i deploy this application on web server and browse the application, the events fires in firefox and chrome but in IE the events are not fired. If i browse the application from the server with localhost, the application triggers the events and fails when i use machine name.

var clean=input1.replace(/$/, '');

I have a script that opens a popup window (that runs through a wizard) and I need the final page to close the child and target the parent. Sounds easy enough, but it's not working in Netscape6.x.
I named my parent (window.name = 'main' and I target it in the child. This works fine in IE and NS4, but doesn't work in NS6. Is this not a W3C compliant solution and therefore not supported by NS6?
Can anyone think of a way to target window.opener or maybe use some other DOM method to get my child form to target its parent in NS6?

Inside of $(document).ready(function () I have:
var refre****= setInterval(function(){
$('#mydiv').load("mypage.htm");
}, 9000);
This is working great in IE, it loads mypage.htm into mydiv every 9 seconds. If I change the contents of mypage.htm I can see it in mydiv after 9 seconds with IE, but not with Firefox.
With Firefox I can see the reloading symbol on top of the tab every 9 seconds, but I don't see the page changed.

After spending hours trying out many different examples that supposedly work with IE and FF, I've decided to post here :)
This is the code I'm using to catch the down arrow:
function is_int(event)
{
var Key = event.keyCode ? event.keyCode : event.which ? event.which :
[Code].....
And called using the following on the text input of a form field:
onKeyDown="is_int(event);"
This works in IE but still not in Firefox (3.5.7). Surprised as it has the .which in there - I thought this is what FF needed?

I have a function that checks to see the number entered in a textfield and then, if greater than 1, will change a radio button from Single to Multiple and visa versa. The function is called from the textfield with an onkeyup="function()". The problem I am having is that it works in IE just fine, but in Firefox it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm not getting any errors and can't seem to see what is the problem.
