I am using jQuery now. I can drag and drop. But I want to drag an IMG for example and I want the user ONLY to be able to drag it into a specific div, otherwise I want it to revert for example or just not work.

There is a website based game I would like to build, but I am not sure that the main functionality would be possible to program. I have tried to do as much research as possible. I know that javascript can do drag and drop, but would it be possible for the user to specify which images (out of a catalogue of thousands) they would like to be present on screen/toplay with?
It would need to work like this: The user is presented with a catalgoue of images. They can refine this catalogue according to things like colour, type etc. The user chooses which images they would like to play with by adding them to their personal choices (e.g. with an 'add this item' button). In the next step the user is taken to a page showing all the items added to their personal list, which they can then drag and drop around the screen. The user can then save/share their 'creation'.

They then should be able to submit a form which sets several hidden inputs equal to the values in the table then passing the information to a php page to process. However, the php page doesn't output anything when it is submitted. This is the form layout.

What is happening is $(this) is no longer based on .expand being the (this) that is clicked.
like if i have a button SOMEWHERE randomly on the page with this
<div onclick="Minimize('_alerts');">Click Here</div> this will minimize alerts but because the (this) in minimize function doesn't actually point to the right button that I want to add a class to.
Is there a way to modify the minimize function so that it finds the <div id="mytoggle"><ul> <li class="expand boxminimize" rel="_alerts"> using the rel toggle, and then changes the class of the li from expand boxminimize to boxexpanded??
just like the .expand click function I posted on the top of the post that works?
Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me.
I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them.
Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers?

I'm creating an AJAX user validation so that when a user types in a username, it checks it in the database to see if it exists. I want it to execute after the user finishes typing. I've tried using:

which works, but I don't want a query executed every time the users presses a key. I was wondering if there was a better way to do it. Meaning I what the check to be preformed after the user finishes typing.
I am trying to make a sort of scrollable area, using a div that you are supposed to be able to drag, and an area that reacts to it. The problem is, it only reacts to click events. When I drag, it does not respond.

When I drag my link to my droppable area, an ajax request is supposed to triggred, but it seems like the whole page is beeing reloaded. This works fine with Chrome and Firefox. It works in IE if I have insert an alert in the drop function.

However, I want to call the web service only when an item is dropped onto the objeect but when I try to add the Ajax function inside the $("#droppable").droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) {.... it doesn't seem to work.

I am using jQuery Tabs to make an ajax call for each tab when clicked. The ajax that displays is like inettuts. 3 or 4 columns of widgets that can be dragged and dropped. The problem that I am having, when I put the html of the result directly in the main page, it works as designed. When I click on a tab, it displays the page, but all the jquery functions in that ajax page are gone and I cannot sort, drag and drop anything. I suspect that the ajax page is not reading the javascripts in the head, which are on main page. Unfortunately I can't remove them to include them in ajax pages dynamically because I am also using them for other functions in main page. Is there a way to make those ajax pages read the javascripts on that main page?

1) jquery.simple.tree.js
2) Jquery file.
For Jquery I used latest version. 1.4.2.When I ran the program, tree working fine, But when I start to drag, it dragged but displayed a JS error "Invalid Argument". I am using IE8. My project work only in IE8.So I tried it with Jquery previous version, in IE8, the drag working with Jquery 1.3.2.But I should use Jquery 1.4.2 (Latest version).The program is a attached herewith.how I can use it with Jquery 1.4.2 and jquery.simple.tree.js.

Needless to say I haven't even gotten to the code to actually remove the link cause I can't even append the link...haha

The issue I am having is I need to know the Id (field bound to the datalist) of the row of the dragged image. Is there a way to access this field when the image is dropped?
