Creating An Array Literal Using A Large Recordset From A Database

Feb 9, 2006

The correct syntax for an array literal would be:

this.managers [ "DOE, JANE", "DOE, JOHN", "BUSH, GEORGE W" ];

(which works)

My questioin is, how do you recreate this same syntax pulling from a
recordset containing over 3500 records such as:

aManagerName = "DOE, JANE", "DOE, JOHN", "BUSH, GEORGE W", etc...

because

this.managers [ aManagerName ];

(does not work)

JQuery :: Dynamic Array Parameters For Var?

Nov 14, 2010

getting a problem adding name/values to make an array to pass to php.
I've got a number of inputs named week_start_x (where x is an integer ranging from 1 to a dynamic number [generated through php] - the max no. is determined by another field called 'yearblocks').

I want to pass these name/value pairs to a php script. However, I get an 'undefined' when I fish out the $_POST variables for the array. I assume it's to do with the fact that the 'str' variable is printing out a string as opposed to a list of name/values, but I have no idea of how to go about this.

var cnt = 1;
str = "";
blocks = $("#yearblocks").val();
while (cnt <= blocks){

Dynamic Color Change Of Array Elements?

May 29, 2011

I have been trying unsuccesfully for three days to figure something out, and it has brought me here. I am a noob javascripter, so please bear with me. I have created a page with an input button that refers to a function:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>

[code]....

i would like to change certain style elements of the array each time the button is clicked. I have 5 color sets i would like use for the page, so i would like the button to trigger the color change in a loop, ie when the last color group is reached, the next click returns to the original color set and it continues again.The things i want to change are the background color of two div's and the top row of a table. My style sheet is seperate, and I will also do the same for the javascript once I can get it to work properly.

I'm attempting to make user's input choice dynamically create the scrambled word game. The only thing that changes between the HTML page, and the JS files is the Array used to make the game. I researched Dynamic Arrays, but was confused, as nothing seem related to what I'm doing. What I've got going is all wrong. I know there is a better way to do this, but am confused. SelAry I've tried using too, but I can't get that code to work either. I don't know where to put the eval function. Create JS Array From Dynamic HTML Form Fields?

Apr 26, 2011

From the these form fields I want to be able to create an array in Javascript containing the same 'codes' that feature between the option tags (not the value="X")

<select name="options-1" id="options-1">
<option value="">Select an option</option>
<option value="1">KA-WH</option>
<option value="2">KA-BK</option>
<option value="3">KA-GN</option>

[Code]...

for example, from the above, I want a JS array for 'option-1' that contains KA-WH, KA-BK and KA-GN; plus an array for 'option-2' that contains BADGE-1, BADGE-2 and BADGE-3. The above form fields will be created dynamically, may contain more or fewer items.

I then want to use the JS arrays to pull in images of which filenames match the 'code' in the array.

Resolved Can't Remove Previous Select Options From A Dynamic Array?

Jul 31, 2009

I'm using ajax to update options in several select forms.Its basically, like in most automotive applications, there is a drop down for brand...once selected, it will populate another select form with the "makes" of that brand. Once a make is selected.. it returns the models of that make... and ect...The program works fine for one selection. When one brand is selected, a second select box is populated with the correct makes of cars that brand produces, however, if the brand is changed, the select box with the makes of the cars is populated by the original query..twice... and then the second query. Looking for help on whats the best way to clear both the results array; i was using this...

autobrandsf.length = 0;

and also clear out the select box, which is what the removeAllOptions() function is for. As it stands, if i use the removeAllOptions(), the makes are never populated.Here is my code, broken down the best i could, in order of process.. ish.A select form that shows the brands is displayed, once a choice is made, it passes the value of the choice into this function, which will query the database

// this is the function that is called once a brand is selected:
// h = the brand passed..
function carBrandCheck(h){[code]....

This is where, the query is returned, each row is split into an individual array, and then the second element of those individual arrays are put into yet again another array.The elements of that array are then compared against eachother to make sure there are no duplicates, storing the non-duplicates into a new array. The final array is then passed into a select form, for the makes of the selected brand.

// the ajax handler:
function handleWorkResponse(){
if(xmlHttp.readyState == 4){[code]......

Object Literal

Oct 17, 2006

Below I declared a basic object literal with 2 methods. The
"doSomething" method is call from the "useDoSomething" method but the
call is only sucessful if I use the "this" keyword or qualify the call
with "SomeObj".

Can someone describe why this is happening?

var SomeObj = {
doSomething : function()
{
return 'Did something'
},

useDoSomething : function()
{
//Doesn't work - doSomething() no defined.
return doSomething();
//Works
//return this.doSomething();
//Works
//return SomeObj.doSomething();
}
}

alert(SomeObj.doSomething());
alert(SomeObj.useDoSomething());

Use A Literal In A Function Declaration?

Jun 14, 2010

I have the following code which attaches a function to events in x number of comboboxes (x will probably always = 4, but I do not want to hard-code this). I wish to pass the value of i to the function being attached as well as the value of tempData. In other words, I want the parameters in function to be the value, not a reference variable.

In the current example, I am using the hard-coded variable ci. This I want to be replaced by a literal created when the event handler is attached (the value of the loop variable i). Also, notice that I get the filter value in the event handler (assigned to the variable ct). I would like to replace this code with the value of tempData which would also be determined when the evenet is attached (it is the same value in this case, but it keeps the onChange event from having to do this each time it runs).

var props = {
col_0: "select",
col_1: "select",

Difference Between The Object Literal And The New

Jul 2, 2010

I have read this from the interentfunction getArea(radius)

Imagine we want to create lots of circle objects using our object as a base - if we declare using the object literal, were not able to do that.

But the new operator can do that - basically allowing us to re-use a user-defined object.

can't understand on the above why we declare using the object literal not able to do that.

Unterminated String Literal

im trying to read an xml file and put it into a textarea on my page.
here is the code that returns the xml file as a string:

Document doc = new Document();
SAXBuilder saxBuilder = new SAXBuilder("org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
XMLOutputter xmlOut = new XMLOutputter(Format.getPrettyFormat());
doc = saxBuilder.build(filesName);
String xml = outputter.outputString(doc);

no when i try to pass this to a javascript as follows:
function putXML(fileName){
var blah = '<%= xml %>'
document.btraxtestForm.HighwayMessage.innerText=blah;
}

it gives me a unterminated string literal error.

also, i will never know the contents of this xml file so i cant split up the string.
has anyone any ideas how i will fix this?

Objects With Literal Notation ?

Aug 17, 2010

I've started learning writing javascript objects with literal notation...

Instead of the usual syntax...

The problem is that it's hard for me to adapt procedures which I'm used to within the normal syntax for the literal notation. E.g:

Is this variable global or local? If it's local, how do I declare a variable globally? I also wonder if it is possible to bind events to objects from within the object? And if I'm correct - jQuery is coded this way, but how can they then make use of their selector:

When it is an object defined with literal notation that doesn't have a constructor?
