Detect Back Button - True To Not Let The Page Load And Kick Them Back X Number Of Pages

Feb 24, 2004

I am trying to write a script that uses the IF statement to see wether or not a user clicked the back button to come to a page, and then if it's true to not let the page load and kick them back X number of pages (say 4) This is what I have so far:

<script language="JavaScript"><!--
if javascript:window.history.back == 1
{
javascript:window.history.back(4);
return false;
}
//--></script>

XMLHttpRequest In FireFox And Browser Cache

Jul 23, 2005

Does anybody know how to make FireFox to cache data that comes via
XMLHttpRequest? Here is the issue I deal with:
- On the web server (apache2) I have a static xml file test.xml
- When I download test.xml using XMLHttpRequest, FireFox always gets
complete test.xml from the server, thus not using the browser cache
(apache sends 200 OK back to FireFox).
- If I look into the HTTP request and the HTTP response, I can see
that FireFox seems to always set the following request headers:
Pragma: no-cache
Cache-Control: no-cache
- Apache always sets Last-Modified and ETag headers in a response.

I tried the same JavaScript code with IE, and IE definitely relies on
its cache: I can see in Apache logs responses with 304 Not Modified
code for IE, also HTTP requests from IE have If-Modified-Since and
If-None-Match headers. I didn't find any difference in responses Apache
provides for FireFox and IE.

Spry Form Validation Breaking Back Button Cache?

Apr 20, 2009

I use Spry for my form validation and have recently ran into a small issue. Form fields validated using Spry lose their value when I hit the back button. Fields without validation retain their values.

The form is using the POST method. With javascript, is it necessary to send the form variables back to the original form page?

Browser Back Button On A Page Using Iframe Content?

Feb 1, 2011

when you have a page that contains an iframe, and then navigate inside the iframe, hitting the browsers back button will only affect the contents of the iframe and not the entire page. I've been searching all over for solutions and cant find one that works for my current implementation.

frames[0].location = frame+'.html'
frame.contentWindow.location.replace(newUrl);

Detect Browser Back Button Press With No Page Reload?

Nov 23, 2010

I am trying to trigger an event once the user clicks the browsers back/forward buttons, I have built a system just like facebook where if the user has javascript turned on they get the full feature of the site which includes fast switching for example if someone goes to this page "example.com/index.php" and click a link to contact.php it would change the url to "example.com/index.php#!/contact.php" but what I need to know is if there is any way to change the pages content when the user goes back and forth through the fast switch pages? something like "history.back !== -1" or something like that.

Firefox And <body Onload=.. > Firing After Page Is Rendered

Aug 16, 2005

I have some initialization to be done at page load time, which changes
the text of some anchors so that they are consistent with the query
string (these anchors are used as criteria selectors, and should be
initialized to the criteria contained within the url).

IE and Safari fire the onload event before rendering any elements, so
when the event handler synchronizes the anchors, they are rendered with
the right contents immediately. Firefox, though, renders the page
first, and then fires the handler, which results in the anchors getting
their initial values, and then changing to proper selections. I've
tried calling my init() method immediately after the anchors are
defined in my document - no difference, looks like Firefox is rendering
everything as soon as it's encountered in the document.

Is there any way to have my code run before any elements are rendered
in Firefox? Currently I've "solved" this by hiding the containing div
in the document, and showing it after making changes. This results in
the UI visually reloading itself with each new page, which is not very
desirable either.

Having A Lightbox Pop Up When A User Clicks The Back Button In Their Browser Rather Than Just Navigating Back

Jul 1, 2011

I'm looking to have a lightbox pop up when a user clicks the Back button in their browser rather than just navigating back. The purpose is to ask a question with a Yes/No answer, and if they click No, I allow them to go back. The only thing I've found anything like this is the onUnload event, but that doesn't prevent them from going back. How should this be handled?

JQuery :: Double Click Scroll Button After Page Load

Nov 16, 2010

I recently added a section to my website that uses the Scrollable JQuery tool to load images from my Flickr account. When I initially load the page the "next" button requires two clicks before it will advance to the next set of images. This only happens on the first attempt following the page load. When I look at the code it appears that Scrollable fires an event on the first click that removes the "disabled" class on the "prev" anchor tag. It appears to skip the slider event that scrolls the images. You can view the issue here: [URL].

Load Image On Radio Button Click - Without Reloading Page

Apr 28, 2011

I'm trying to make it so that when a user clicks on a radio button, the image that is related to the radio button is displayed next to it (without reloading the page). At the moment all it shows is the image related to the currently saved option, which I'd like to keep on page load. Is this possible?

Here is my code for the radio buttons.

JQuery :: Detecting Browser's Back Button

Apr 12, 2011

I have a jquery-powered "start page" that checks your log in and if successfull it slides in a "menu" of new places to go. The problem is, if you click back from one of the new places, the original "start page" looks as if you never logged in. You have to reload the page. Not very intuitive and this website is for kids. Now I've tried setting form field values with server session variables, javascript variables, etc etc but they all get reset when you click back. I've tried the "onunload hack" which I don't fully understand, and then read a bit about the onhashchange event which is from what I gather only compatible with HTML5 browsers...is there no way to detect if the user is already logged in when they click the back button or am I not doing enough homework?

JQuery :: Append() And The Browser Back Button?

May 8, 2009

I use append() to add html fragments to a page dynamically. This works fine until the user navigates to another page and then clicks on the browser back button. The dynamically added html fragments are no longer visible. I read somewhere that dynamically added elements are not remembered by the browser and therefore the back button will only render the original page (without the dynamically added elements).

Reload/Refresh On Browser Button Back?

Jun 20, 2011

I need some script to force the browser to reload/refresh when a page is reached from the back button.

EG You're on page A -> You click a link onto page B -> You Press Browser back to go onto Page A, it has old content that requires a reload.

Now, my page is currently php so I won't bother with my code here as I am looking for any solution (I have also posted in php forum).

Any JS solution that will trigger a reload on browser back is appreciated. I have tried a few ideas, most work in Chrome, IE always works, Firefox 4 and Opera 11 wont reload, simply fetching from cache I believe.

Forcing A Browser To Re-render An Image From Its URL Location And Not From The Browser's Cache

Is there a way in Javascript, or perhaps in HTML, to force a browser to
re-render an image on an HTML page after a round-trip between the client
and the server ?

In my particular case, the image is changing on the server although the
URL for it remains the same, but the browser is still displaying the old
image from its cache rather than the new image from its URL location.
