Firefox/Netscape Rectangle Over Image
Aug 17, 2005
I have an application that draws a selection rectangle over a map
image. I can get it to work fine in IE and Opera, but not
Firefox/Netscape.
I've thrown the following small example together to illustrate the
problem - the problem being that FF/NE initially draw my rectangle
before the icon changes immediately to the black no-entry icon. Then,
when I let go of the mouse, the rectangle continues drawing, but it
doesn't stop as the mouseup has already fired of course.
IE was doing the same, but I found the ondragstart/cancelDragDrop
solution to that. I can't find what appears to be a similar solution
for FF/NE.....

In PS you press CTRL+T on new layer. 9 handles appears an then you can stretch/rotate/move that layer. Looking just for that stretch & rotate functionality with dotted/dashed retangle outline. That is, there should be 8 handles on rectangle boundarys and then rectangle should be rotated & stretched via those points. & moved via nineth center point.

When setting the tabIndex property for an element, Firefox also displays, like IE, a dotted rectangle around the focussed element. With IE you can set hideFocus=true, which does not work with Firefox.
How do I hide the focus rectangle for Firefox?

Came across an interesting question put to me by someone today.. Is it possible to list all the co ordinates within a image map rectangle hotspot?
First thought was, yeah sure, then I actually began to think & thought, hmm how would you do that
Does anyone have any ideas? Are there any tricks or math out there that could do such an ask?

I have tried several things, using several Javascript books, but can't get
this to work in Netscape (latest version) and Firefox (latest v.). It works
in MIE and Opera fine. A box (defined by a css layer) is supposed to pop
out to the right when the corresponding box on the far left is moused over.
The first function defines a layer id to the next function which pops out
the box. After debugging in Venkman, it looks like the first function
cannot define the layer id properly to the second function, which actually
slides the box (layer) to the right.
I thought that the getElementById function was supposed to work for Firefox,
but I must be using it wrong(???)
To see how it's supposed to work, view the following page in MIE or Opera:

I have a script which works just fine on Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and Netscape Navigator 7.2, but it doesn't work so well on IE 6.0...
Allow me to explain what the script is all about. A select element ("selTable") in a form ("myForm") is populated by values of table names in a database (this is done using PHP). The values are like this: k1, k2, k3, etc.
When a user clicks on a button ("btnQuery"), the values in the table are copied into a text box ("txtQueryStr")with the words "SELECT * FROM" appended to the front (e.g. when button is clicked, the text box (initially empty) will show "SELECT * FROM k1, k2, k3" Code:

I have a calculator that works perfectly fine on IE with four js functions all working. I created it on FrontPage. But on Firefox or Netscape nothing happens when I hit the Calculate button (which calls doMath() and verify() onclick). I can't figure out what to look for and where to look.
I know it's not the browser cause I have a very very simple calculator that works on both IE and Firefox. There must be some wrong code or missing code that I just can't find.

I am trying to implement a rubber band/image selection script. For
that I need to remove the default drag behaviour on an image. I am
able to do this in IE but not Netscape. Does any one have a solution?
Pls look below for IE code:
var moz = ((document.all)? false : true);
var ie = ((document.all)? true : false);
var ElementUtil = new Object();
ElementUtil.addEventListener = function(o, type, handler) {
if(ie) {
o.attachEvent("on" + type, handler);
}
else if(moz) {
o.addEventListener(type, handler, false);
}
}
// Removes default drag behaviour on image in ie
ElementUtil.addEventListener(img, "drag", function() {return false;});

I am using the double combo script (see below) on my site so people can selet reports that open in a new window with no toolbars.
To date the script has been working flawlessly but today I've noticed the "Go" button has 'gone' when viewed in Netscape or Firefox.
I've gone over the script many times trying to work out what's wrong but can't see anything. Can someone please have a look at the script (with a fresh perspective) and tell me what's wrong :confused: :confused: :confused: ?
Also is it possible to add a blank line between "2006 Deferred Matches" and "2005 Tournament Standings" ? Code:

I am attempting to precache images on my website. I'd then like to be
able to check my Apache logs to see which images are requested the most
and are therefore the most popular on my site and then to estimatate
potential bandwidth needs and growth. The problem is Firefox doesn't
always make the precache request; it actually seems to be pretty random
whether it does or not. I've verified this using Ethereal to sniff the
packets and watch the HTTP requests. Does anyone have any idea what
would be causing this sort of behavior?

I am working on an Image Map project, the project must be written under xhtml 1.1 and must validate. The problem is Firefox and Safari will not support the image map without the name attribute, internet explorer does. If I add a name attribute to the image map, the code will not validate under xhtml 1.1. Is there any way to have this work without the name attribute in FF and Safari? The inline styles will be remove later and I would also like to replace the variables with an array but for now the focus is on getting this to work in FF without the name attribute. I can just change the doctype to transitional but we have to use xhtml1.1.
Here is the code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var koalaMouth = "This is my left ear!";
var koalaLeftEye = "This is my left eye!";
var koalaNose = "That is my nose!";
var koalaMouth = "That is my mouth!";
var koalaRightEye = "And that is my right eye!";
function writetext(message){
document.getElementById('displayText').innerHTML=''+message+'';
}function defaultText(){ .....
