Dynamic Table Contents Based Off Selection Box From A Database
Jul 23, 2005
What I'd like to do is have a dropdown box populated with data from a
database. Based on what you select from the drop down a table will be
generated (in this case a 3 column table) from another query to the
database. I will eventually want a way to select one of the rows from
the table, but for now I'd be happy with just generating the table.
I know it will have to deal with DHTML, dom documents, getElementID,
removeNode, recreating the node. What I am not sure about is how to
1) Dynamically create a table
2) Step 1 with data from a database (recordset)
Like I said, I'd also like to be able to select a row from the table.
I'd be happy with making the ros a radio group, though it would be
interesting to be able to select the row. I take it I'd use CSS to
highlight the row selected then.

I am trying to create a web page in which the contents of one selection list
depends upon which element in another selection list is chosen, but where
the information to populate the first selection list comves from an SQL
database on the web server.
There are a couple of these situations in my application but, for example,
the first list might be a list of counties, and the second list a list of
states/provinces. Obviously the names of counties depend upon which
state/province is chosen, but there are too many possibilities to be able to
embed them within the web page itself. So when the user selects a
state/province I need to go to the server to ask for the list of counties.
I have seen a number of posts that sort of address this issue. For example
it is suggested to use <script src="a URL"/> to ask the server side code to
send up data of type "text/javascript". However the examples do not seem to
address how the server side code would know which state/province the user
had selected.
If there is a web site that addresses this sort of thing, I would appreciate
any pointers.

I have a page that has a list of companies pulled from a mysql db. Each company name is a link and when clicked an overlay comes up containing further details on that particular company.
Everything is working...my list is created, link pulls up the overlay, but as of now it only populates the info for the company that is the last record. I know I need to pass the record id to the jquery so that it pulls the record for the name clicked, but I am just not familiar enough with jquery to figure it out. I believe I need to pass it to a parameter, but need a nudge in the right direction. Below is my current code with just the basics, I have passed the unique id for each record via mid="<?php echo $member->member_id; ?>"> in the link...I just need to pass that to the overlay. code...

I would like to be able to generate a table from which I can easily edit the contents of a mySQL database (similar to phpMyAdmin.) In that table I would like to have a button that will open a pop-up, allowing me to edit - and maintain formatting such as apostrophes and line breaks - a long description field. That popup will then populate a hidden input field on its parent with the modified description.
I've got the pop-up opening and its fields are populated using php's GET function (see line 11). The special characters, particularly carriage returns, are messing me up; I can remove them using php's str_replace, but I want to retain them for formatting.

Hate to trouble you gurus with such a simple question but I'm just beginning w/jquery etc. Anyway i've come up with the following but it doesn't work. $("#table_id td").not(".Source:contains('System')").parent().addClass('edit_allowed');
The first column has class "Source" and I want to add the class name "edit_allowed" if the contents of teh first td is "System".

I'm trying to update a sql table from mi php Ajax web page, which stores dynamically a table into the page by table.appendChild(row) , so that the user can verify the information he is inserting before the actual database update.
How do I do this with ajax?

I have a table of data brought in through lift and in it is a status column. I am wondering if there is an easy way to color a row based on the contents of that column. Any status of broken was red, edited was yellow and finalized was green. It seems like I could write a widget for doing this, but I don't know how it would work and have little experience with creating my own widgets.
Here is the initialization which includes functions for mouseover color changes.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
// Adds "over" class to rows on mouseover
$(".tablesorter tr").mouseover(function(){
$(this).addClass("rowHover");
});
// Removes "over" class from rows on mouseout
$(".tablesorter tr").mouseout(function(){
$(this).removeClass("rowHover");
});
$('.tablesorter selectThisRow').click(function() {
$(this).parent('tr').addClass('selected');
});
$("#claims").tablesorter({
sortList:[[4,0],[6,0]],
widgets: ['zebra'],
headers: {
0: { sorter: false },
1: { sorter: false },
2: { sorter: false },
3: { sorter: false },
5: { sorter: false },
7: { sorter: false },
8: { sorter: false }
}})
.tablesorterPager({container: $("#pager")});
});
</script>
I'm working with scala and lift as well so I'm bringing in the table data from a database when the page loads. Whether a widget is how to make the colors adjust, or creating more JS functions for doing it.

<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
The problem im having is that the value used in the dropdown lists are price values eg 10.00

<asp:ListItem>option1</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>option2</asp:ListItem>
[Code]....
I want the div with the id of "option2show" to be hidden unless the user has selected option 2 in the dropdown box.
If the user has selected option 1 then nothing will happen, however iff option 2 has been selected then the option2 div will appeaar. I would like this to happen before any submit buttons are press, so i guess onblur of the dropdown box.

I work for masterclock. We sell network synced clocks and timing systems. One of our products is a "bell ringer." We currently control this ringer through a C++ program another one of our employees made. However, it only works on Windows systems, looks like crap, and is as confusing beyond all get-out. I have been given the task of rewriting this program in a pretty, easy, and universal format. i.e. a browser. Now to further explain the bell system program.
1. The program searches the local network for the bell system hardware.
2. User chooses appropriate hardware (if more than one bell system exists) to connect to and enters the password.
3. User edits tables stored in a local MS Access database via the bell system program UI.
4. User sends data to the bell system hardware it is connected to.
I've been racking my brain and the internet for about 6 hours trying to see what is possible. Because this all needs to be done locally I can't use any sort of server-side language like php or asp. It seems silly to make a client install a virtual server to connect to a file that is on their own computer. I'm assuming that I am pretty much limited me to javascript. I found this site but that only works with internet explorer which is almost as restricting as the program we have now.
I considered flash for a little while until I found out a swf can't connect to a database w/o using php or asp. We aren't limited to the MS Access database but it would be less work for me if we could stick with it. It may not even be possible but it seems like it should work. some way. We also considered an internal site on the bell ringer hardware itself, like routers nowadays. I think that would be an equally if not more difficult process though and I'm limited to about 500kb on its flash memory.

Currently, I have a php form with various inputs, and a div where I am embedding an (initially) empty open flash chart object.Right now, I am calling a php file on the submit of the form, which takes the form data, calls a python script to process the form data, and then creates an open flash chart object using the data the python script returns.There are a few problems with this:
1. When the submit on the form is called, it goes to a different page where the chart is displayed, when I would really just like to update the contents of the chart div where I initially embedded the empty chart.
2. The processing of the form in the python code can take some time, so what I would really like is to have the chart "check" the output of the python script periodically and update the chart each time, adding the new data points to the old ones.
I know I can do all of these things with javascript and Ajax, I just can't seem to find any tutorials or examples that are exactly what I am looking for.

I have created a user form in which visitors can fill in sections, some of which are hidden or displayed using the onclick to trigger a DIV to display or hide then submit the results to a database using ASP. All works fine with that, however... I have created another page which retrieves the results for an individual's form submission, and I want to hide the sections that were not completed (hidden when submitted). How can I get my page to hide or show DIVs, depending on the value retrieved from a particular field within the database? i.e. if Question1Response="A", show Div ID="A Section" If Question1Response="B", show Div ID="B Section" etc.

that will work on Palm devices runing Blazer 3.0 or Web Browser 2.0.
The browsers SEEM to be JavaScript1.1+ capable and the script that I
have works on every desktop-based browser, but not the PDA ones....
Any advice? Or is this a known deficiency?
