Document.getElementsByTagName Works In FF, Doesn't In Opera And IE?

Feb 21, 2009

I was trying to make simple JS script, but it seems like i have problem.

I have really basic html:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-2"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

[Code]....

AS you see, i have ONE div element, and Firefox alerts the 1 as result, which is correct. But Opera (9) and Ie(7) returns length of 0. How is that possible?

this is intresting. I tryed to use '*' instead of 'div', to search for all elements. FF alerts HEAD, BODY and DIV elements, while opera only first two, and not Div.

Js Works Only In Opera?

Jun 24, 2011

I have this code

[URL]

If you'll use Opera browser, it will display lightbox style animation after clicking on marker on the map. Other browsers are not so kind

Chrome give an error Uncaught TypeError: Object [URL] has no method 'click'

To display animation in bumpbox(lightbox alternative) I use this html code

Code:

<div id="neco" style="display: none">
<a href="clouds.swf" class="bump">clouds</a>
</div>

and this javascript

Code:

google.maps.event.addListener(markerName, 'click', function mojafunkcia() {
document.getElementById("neco").getElementsByTagName("a")[0].click();
})

I assume that html element cannot access that javascript function because it ist nested within other function (please see source code on turie.eu), but I'm not very skilled with javascript, so I'm not sure.

Select Code Works For Firefox / GC But Not For Opera And IE

Oct 18, 2010

It works fine in Firefox and Google Chrome but not in Opera and Internet Explorer.If you don't have Firefox or Google Chrome,when you click an element, if should be lighter green, rolling out of a clicked element, it should be darker green. The same happens with elements that are not selected, ubt they are gray. But in IE and Opera, when you roll out of a selected element, it is gray.I can't debug it in Opera because I have no debugger there, like Firebug.

Jquery :: Lightbox Works Very Well In Firefox And Opera But Not In IE8

Oct 18, 2011

I am using the lightbox script from "Jquery:Novice to Ninja" and it works very well in Firefox and Opera but not in IE8.

The problem, I think is because I am using PHP to pull the picture names from a file. There are around 40 pictures so I didn't want to name them all manually.[code]...

This easily produces a nice page of thumbnails and clicking on any brings up the bigger picture in lightbox but not in IE.

It seems that IE needs another set of pictures to load from so the filename od the <a href=image> needs to be different to the <src=image> filename which makes more work.

Is there a work around to make this work as well in IE as it does in firefox.

The page can be seen at[url]

Also as an aside. When the lightbox starts it removes the scroll bar which has the effect of moving the page to the right. Is there a way to add a right margin to replace the scroll bar to stop this happening?

Onchange() Doesn't Work In IE Or Opera

Oct 22, 2009

Wrote what I though would be a simple script to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, feet to meters... and vice versa. It uses onchange="calculate(this)" in the input fields, so when the individual enters a number and hits tab or enter it automatically calls the calculate() function and does the needed conversion. I'm passing (this), 'this' being the input field, and calculate() pulls out the needed data for the conversion.

It works great in Firefox. But in IE or Opera, the calculate() function never even gets called. I've searched for an answer, but to now avail. I haven't written much JavaScript and am not entirely sure what's causing the problem. Kinda makes me think of Java, where if you want to use action listeners, you need to first instantiate a listener object. Is there somekinda event listener in JavaScript that Opera and IE want instantiated? Here is my code in it's entirety.

Ajax :: Minimal Script Works In Firefox / But Not In IE / Opera / Chrome

Aug 8, 2009

The minimal AJAX script below works in Firefox, but not in IE, Opera, or Chrome.I could use some suggestions or referrals to resources that will help me get the script working in other browsers.Before there are six characters entered in the CAPTCHA code field, the 'Send' button is supposed to be disabled. When there are at least six characters in the CAPTCHA code field, the script attempts to verify the CAPTCHA w/AJAX. If it verifies, it enables the Send button and sets the background of the CAPTCHA code field light green (symbolic for go). Otherwise, it turns the background of the CAPTCHA code field a sort of pink/red (symbolic for no go). While it's waiting for a server response the background is set to a pastel yellow. At other times, the background of the code field is white.

Setting Style.top Doesn't Work In Chrome Or Opera?

Nov 11, 2009

I have some simple code to have one div bounce around inside another. It works fine on Firefox and IE, but for some reason in Opera and Chrome it only moves left to right.

This suggests that Chrome and Opera allow you to dynamically set style.left but not style.top. This seems odd to me.

why this won't run as intended on Chrome or Opera?

Here's a very simplified version of my code to demonstrate the problem:

Code:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

Image Preview - Ok With FF, Doesn't Work With IE, Opera, Chrome?

Feb 4, 2011

Before image upload I want users to preview their choice. For some reason JS doesn't work with all browsers except FF.When a user selects file, JS preview function should insert it into #addPreview div where preview.gif is located as a default picture. If everything goes OK preview.gif is replaced with new selected file. Otherwise wrong size or file type is detected. Alert message appears in #addPreviewAlert div.Here's my code:

HTML CODE

Code:
<!-- ALERTS -->
<div id="addPreviewAlert"></div>
<!-- END ALERTS -->[code]...

Tell me why Firefox works as desired, but all other browsers don't allow any preview. They don't show any JS error messages and alerts either.

JQuery :: Click Event Works With Opera And Firefox, Does Not Work With IE, Chrome And Safari

Oct 30, 2010

I have two select lists that have option lists that are created from external XML lists that contain course offerings available at different locations. Each location has a different set of course offerings. When a user selects a location, the javascript code will hide / show the option entries that correspond to the course offerings for that location. If a user selects a course offering, the javascript code will show / hide the locations that offer those courses.

Click events are attached to each of the Option entries with the code below. The code works correctly with Firefox and Opera, but the click events are never triggered in IE, Safari or Chrome. The Chrome debugger seems to indicate that the click events get set up in Chrome (although I am not sure where JQuery saves event handler data). Each option entry has a unique ID tag.

$(".locn_option_select").click(function (locnevent) { // Set up click action on the option entries
locnevent.preventDefault;[code].......

Unable To Get Document Object For Main Page Of Certain Sites In Opera

Jan 18, 2011

We are building an opera extension in which we are trying to use the document object property (document. body. innerHTML) in order to obtain the source of the main page of a site. In most cases it provides us with the correct page source but for certain sites (ones that have multiple document layers), it doesn't return the top most document. This perhaps has to do with how opera loads the document layers in a page. We did not face any issue with any other browser.How can we obtain the source of the main page URL... using the document object in Opera ?

Script - Replaces The Usual File Upload Input - Works On Every Browser Ie7 Ie8 Ie9 FF Safari Chrome But Not On Opera

Oct 29, 2011

I'm using a nice little script which replaces the usual file upload input with whatever image you want and then with JS makes sure that an invisible 'browse' button is underneath the mouse pointer whenever the mouse is moved over the image you want to use.

It works on every browser ie7 ie8 ie9 FF safari chrome but not on opera. On Opera the regular file input appears.

I've had a good hoke round the 'net and I know there's loads of scripts which do similar things. But either they are too complicated for me to figure out how to use them eg uploadify (bit of a newbie) or they do similar things but just not as well - like making the custom image the same size as the file input would be (there's issues with that too).

Here's the script I'm using - there's not much to it

How come it doesn't work in Opera grrrr... Is there anyway to fix it? This is perfect for what I want apart from not working in Opera.

JQuery :: Select By ID Sometimes Works, Sometimes Doesn't?

Feb 20, 2010

I'm pretty new at this - been using JQuery about three weeks full-time with good success. But. Some of the elements in my HTML can be selected by their ID's, using the $("#some-id") syntax, and some can't (the selector returns an empty set). In the debugger (Visual Studio) at a break point in the Javascript, I copy the ID value directly out of the html into theimmediate window and run something like to print out the length property of the wrapped set: ?$("#unfindable").length and get zero. I can do the same thing on other ID's and JQuery finds them as I would expect, and Ican't see the difference between the ones that JQuery findsand the ones it doesn't: for instance, they might both be divs. These aren't form input fields - for those I use something like $(":input[id='some-id']") and it works consistently. I don't do anything fancy like changing ID's at runtime - this is all simple static HTML, so I know that the element is there in the DOM and that it has the ID I'm looking for.
