Create Multiple Clocks On Site Based On The Client Location
Feb 9, 2009
I need to create multiple JavaScript clocks on my site based on the client location (I.e. Los Angeles, Houston, Orlando, etc). Nothing complicated... just text clocks to show the current time. With due credit to this site , I used their code as a starting point.
I am looking for a multiple countup or age timer within a html page (using javascript). I want to display below each child picture the age clock/counter of the child. I do not know javascript well (I recognize some code) and know a little of html. I have searched on internet and nothing seems to get close to the below functionality. There are plenty of countup counters etc, but mostly count days, and those that do count age are single use only. Below is some code my friend found. That code works for one person/age only and includes weeks. The thing is that I want one page with all the children listed.
Example of Expected Outcome: Picture John born in Thailand John is 10 years, 03 months, 16 days, 12 hours, 14 minutes, 03 seconds old.
Picture Mary born in Florida, USA Mary is 08 months, 12 days, 14 hours, 02 minutes, 53 seconds old.
Picture Chris born in Melbourne, Australia Chris is 04 years, 02 months, 03 days, 01 hours, 06 minutes, 12 seconds old.
Picture Lindy born in The Netherlands Lindy is 03 years, 11 months, 24 days, 23 hours, 44 minutes, 23 seconds old.
And the clocks keep ticking and counting up. Please note that since Mary is less than a year old, the 0 year value does not show. I also would like the possibility to consider the time differences between the places they were born and the time zone the web page viewer is in. Is that possible? Or maybe I have to recalculate their GMT (Greenwhich time zone) birth time for that to work, or maybe the time zone of the server? How can we make that accurate?
The hours, minutes, and seconds, would be great, but is of course optional. The code below also shows weeks, which is up to you to use or not. Maybe the script can allow you to choose which values to show? I would like this for at least four children, but the possibility to add more later by copying some code would be great. This is not an online form, so all time/date of birth details can be set in the script.
Here is the script I found: <!-- Copy and Paste into HEAD of HTML--> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"> function ElapsedTime(inFromDate,inToDate) { var inFromDate = (arguments.length == 0) ? new Date() : arguments[0]; var inToDate = (arguments.length == 1) ? new Date() : arguments[1]; // if (arguments.length == 0) var inFromDate = new Date(); // IE4 has a bug in constructors, // if (arguments.length == 1) var inToDate = new Date(); // so use above method. var fromDate = new Date(inFromDate); var toDate = new Date(inToDate); .....
I prefer jQuery over flash and not sure how to tackle this, so please advise as best you can. Trying to create a site that allows for images to go full browser and then have the ability to have the other images slide in based on a click.
I also want to float a menu that will allow it to pull in other media (video, that would slide in the same way). The best example I can share is this: http://j.mp/5U79i1 What he is using is flash based (slideshowpro director and slideshow pro for flash). Not interested in flash for this personal project.
Is there any way to create a java alert pop-up client-side for a third party site? I work freelance for a company where one is given various editing assignments. You login to your account page on their site and you keep refreshing as you choose and when an assignment appears, you can click it and accept it. I have a little auto-refresher add-on for IE which keeps refreshing that page every 12 seconds but it can be quite a chore during quiet times sitting in front of the browser waiting for something to come in. Also, you can miss out on assignments if you're not there a lot through the day.
I was wondering if there's some little script that will monitor that page and give me just a simple little alert pop-up dialog and tone when certain conditions appear on the page, i.e. an assignment appearing. I designed some websites a long time ago and used java pop-ups for my sites where it was installed by me server-side for a client-side alert, but wonder if there's any way to write some little thing that will do what I want above on my side when it's obviously not installed server-side.
I posted the same post in PHP section but thought might be related to Javascript too. So here goes:
I want to create a decent log at clients side to show alerts from server.
So, server should be able to see a list of connected clients (registered user) on the website, and select a few of them, type something in textbox, clicks send to all of selected clients, and the message is shown in the log at client's website. Also plays a simple sound file when clients receive new message in the log.
we wanted to know if it is possible to redirect a user to a selected page based on their location? Our interest is only in our country but want to redirect based on which state they live in. Town or suburb is not relevant.
I'm trying to create a horizontal layout for a client, the problem is that the width isn't predetermined, it changes depending on how many divs there are.
You can see what I mean here: [URL]
I'm thinking that somehow I need to calculate the widths of all of the combined .post divs, then use that total width calculation and set it as the width for the #content div, but I really don't know how.
I am creating the following using an array called $validate
<script Language="JavaScript">
function validateForm(theForm) {
if (!validRequired(theForm.form[company_name],"Company Name",true)) return false; if (!validRequired(theForm.form[contact_name],"Contact Name",true)) return false; if (!validRequired(theForm.form[phone_number],"Phone Number",true)) return false; if (!validRequired(theForm.form[address],"Address",true)) return false; if (!validRequired(theForm.form[city],"City",true)) return false; if (!validRequired(theForm.form[zip],"Zip",true)) return false;
return true; } </script>
Each field in my form is set to: form[field_name]. This is so when they submit I can grab the form array and it has all the fields they submitted. This seems to cause a problem with this javascript. It gives me an error at the first validRequired where form[company_name] is. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
I have very little knowledge of javascript, other than modifying existing scripts, and I can't find anything about this particular problem. creating a simple script that will display a div ONLY if the user comes from a certain page within the same site.
Not sure if that was clear, but let me try with specifics. There is a link to a page called 'Clients' on the 'About Us' page. If a user goes directly to 'Clients', they should have a normal experience. If, however, they come via the 'About Us' page, I want to display a div at the bottom of the page that will take them back to the 'About Us' page.
I know how to get a referrer, and I know how to show/hide divs. I just don't know how to combine the two.
I made the game on the left side of the page two months ago in C++, and a month ago translated it to TI-BASIC on the TI-83, and then yesterday moved it to javascript. I've goota say, Javascript is the way to go! My headaches of TI-BASIC were instantly relieved when I went back to Javascript.
Now for my problem. There isn't really a problem in the sense that the game is fully functional, it's more of just something that bugs me. I created the game in hopes of making it as unobtrusive as possible to the page. The entire game uses 3 css classes and one JS Object named bloc. I want the game to generate its own div to live within, which it currenyl does, but I want the div to be name-less and ID-less, so other scripts in any page will not interfere. Code:
I would like to have the same running clocks as on page: [URL] I downloaded swf file: <URL SNIPPED> but can someone write how to create a code to display that object working on webpage?
is it possible to create a link in an email that will go to a site and run its javascript. If so how?what I trying to do is email an alert to selected users when a flash ad is ready. The email will have a link that, when clicked, goes to the home page and displays the ad. the code above takes them to the web site but doesn't run the javascript.
I have a sample page with three tabs (tabs.html). Tabs are displayed as follows: <ul class="tabs"> <li><a href="javascript:tabSwitch('tab_1', 'content_1');" id="tab_1" class="active">Tab 1</a></li> <li><a href="javascript:tabSwitch('tab_2', 'content_2');" id="tab_2">Tab 2</a></li> <li><a href="javascript:tabSwitch('tab_3', 'content_3');" id="tab_3">Tab 3</a></li> </ul>
The JavaScript used to switch tabs is: function tabSwitch(active, number, tab_prefix, content_prefix) { for (var i = 1; i < number+1; i++) { document.getElementById(content_prefix+i).style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById(tab_prefix+i).className = ''; } document.getElementById(content_prefix+active).style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById(tab_prefix+active).className = 'selected'; } Now, by default, when I link to tabs.html, the first tab is set to active. Is it possible to create a link from another site that links to tabs.html and forces the second or third tab to be active?
I need to have this setup as a client side cookie (javascript disabled - no problem).
I need to store in the cookie page name, first name and last name (and there are about 4 more items). Should i save a different cookie for each item here (all javascript examples show this) or can i do some thing like this?
Can anyone point me to a good tutorial for creating a site-level search applet? I am trying to create a virtual catalog of sorts, and I would like to be able to search the catalog and have the results displayed on the same page with one column text and an image of the product. I've seen several tutorials that create site-level searches that will bring back a search results page with options to choose from. I am looking to create a search that does not bring back this "results" page, but displays an image of the product instead. Given the nature of the products, search results will only bring back one specific item, and so, I would like to skip the "results" page altogether. Any thoughts?
Does anyone know of a Javascript slider that can function like Adobe's gradient creator?I'm not actually making gradients, I just need similar slider capabilities.I have a defined date range, let's say it's January 1 to Januaray 31. I want to make a slider that allows my user to split this date range into multiple ranges. So one person can do:
Jan 1 to Jan 5, Jan 6 to Jan 12, Jan 13 to Jan 31 Another person can do: Jan 1 to Jan 21, Jan 22 to Jan 31. How many regions they create doesn't matter to me. The goal is to pull it off with a Javascript slider that works similar to Adobe's gradient creator. Handle's can be added by clicking and removed by pulling it away from the slider. Handle's can also slide around fairly liberally.
I am trying to add markers to Google Maps, they are working fine but some of the markers are of same location, thus Google Map will show only one marker for them. Is it possible to show all markers no matter if they are of same location.
I am trying trying to create a site that will require a database. (much like facebook functions)
I am not new to programming, as I know Java and C++, but I am very new to the web development.
For security reasons (so I have heard), I would like to write this site in php. At the same time, I may need some client sided code. (Or do I?) I am not at all sure.
I know that facebook is written in php, and the site I am making basically has the majority of those functions.
Any inputs as to how I should go about choosing what language? As of now, my partner is learning javascript and mysql, while I am studying php and mysql.
I know that some sites implement both, javascript and php, but I was wondering if it is at all necessary to use both, and how would one know which code to write in what language.
I'm trying to create a Youtube video inserter script for my site. Long story short, I need to be able to prototype an HTML element and add a string into the element's innerHTML, like this:
How can I create a popup window in a form without showing the status, menubar, location and with width of 502 and height 550?
I was doing something like this, it will popup a window, but I do not want to show the status, menubar, location, etc. The form is submitted to other site.
I want to make a search field for my site where the user can enter his query then select which site he would like to search the query on. Like www.torrents.to has, basically just like that. I know nothing about coding, could somebody write the code for me and tell me where to put my links, directory stuff etc...?
