Count The Seconds Between Each Onkeyup To "autosave"?
May 3, 2011
what is the best way to count the seconds between each onkeyup to "autosave" without sending an ajax command after each key? id like my script to update after 2 seconds of no typing.... (yes, jquery is in use on the page)
function microtime (get_as_float) {
var now = new Date().getTime() / 1000;
var s = parseInt(now, 10);
return (get_as_float) ? now : (Math.round((now - s) * 1000) / 1000) + ' ' + s;
}
[Code]....
i'd use onchange or onblur but that requires you to unfocus the field before it saves...
I'm trying to adapt a script I found online for a timer that goes in my webpage. The timer counts from 30 seconds down to 0. I've adapted it so that when it reaches 0 it goes back up to 30, but I was wondering how can I make it so that after a certain number of loops through the timer, it executes some other (non-JS) code instead of just doing the timer forever?I've introduced a variable t to try to do this, but when I put in if(t>1) {break} at the bottom, the timer doesn't work properly anymore (it doesn't display a number in the box).
I have the following code that will count the elapsed time and print the value in seconds after the user hits the stop button. However we are trying to get it to post the elapsed time in hours. So lets say the elapsed time is 20 mintues, the output would be .3 hours.
I was playing around with the compose feature of gmail today and I noticed that it seemed to have an extremely intelligent auto-save feature. What intrigued me about it was that it only seemed to auto-save the document when you were not working on it and when there was actually something that needed to be done.
However the most interesting (i.e., bit that stumped me) was how while in the middle of auto-uploading a large attached file I am able to edit the e-mail and yet when it has finished uploading the attachment (and the page seemingly refreshes) the changes I made to the e-mail are still there.
Could anyone be so kind as to enlighten me as to just how exactly the auto-save feature works (as I am interested implementing something similar for my own site), especially in the region of attachment handling.
I know that they must have some kind of JavaScript on-key-press callback that detects when you are working on a document but that is about all I can extrapolate.
I have an autosave feature that, well... autosaves every minute. Now I could very well become the biggest abuser of my own feature. I currently have 8 windows open - I tend to just leave windows open for a long time. As a result, the javascript would be running every minute saving, creating unnecessary load on the server.
How could I make the autosave smart and only save if they are actively "working" with it? The only thing I can really think of is to have like a variable that sets to true whenever something happens, set to false whenever it saves, and only save when the var is true. Problem is, I have a lot of functions for events that I would need to attach it to... I'm sure I would miss it somewhere.
jQuery Plugin: [URL]. I've been trying for 3days to get this plugin to work, I've contacted the developers and no response. the demo on the site seems to work with a json output but the downloaded code & example does not work. I'm trying to get it to work with PHP as the backend and nothing. The instructions are very vague like a lot of jquery plugins. Are there any developers or experience jquery plugin users that can assist with telling me how to get this plugin to work correctly?
I need to send the contents of a ExtJS Textarea to the backend server for saving (autosave facility) as the user types in. How do I buffer the contents and push the buffer to the server after some threshold value. I've done as below:
I need a count down clock that will count down 18 minutes and reset itself at the end. also i need a counter that increases by +1 every 18 minutes starting at 0.
i found a script that starts counting seconds from 0 till x. i wanted it to display the seconds in mm:ss (minutes : seconds) .. now i only get "NaN:0" (NaN for minutes and 0 for seconds). this is how i ended up : [URL]
I have basic JS knowledge. I am trying to organize a JS timer which counts down to a specific date. After the target date is meet the timer starts to count up. Can someone point me to a JS sample which executes this count-down+target-date+then-count-up theme?
I'm combing two scripts work fine in their own The combined script only has one onkeyup event. Everything works as expected until I enter something in the input box that's produced by the only onclick event in the script.
Here's my work. Why doesn't the onkeyup event work?

I'm having trouble trying to check if a key is down, using javascript.The code below is only a simple test script, and should just write "!" while the left arrow key is down.It seems to be able to detect when the key is pressed, but it doesn't stop when the key is released (on Opera at least - unsure about others).btw: I'm not interested in making it work with IE, as I'll be using other stuff which IE doesn't support anyway (Canvas/SVG).
Code:
<script type="text/javascript"> // keyLeft should be True if Left Arrow Key is down var keyLeft;
I have an ajax search function. I have an input text field where I type in what I want to search for, but I would like the search to be delayed of a few miliseconds before the ajax search is called. How could I do that?
The search field:
The javascript function:
Here is my ajax search...
I tried different ways but I don't seem to be able to delay the searchPlayer function. Any help on that?
Should I use setTimeout on the input field, or in my function or in another function? And how do I pass the 'this.value' to my searchPlayer function if using setTimeout?
I have a function that checks to see the number entered in a textfield and then, if greater than 1, will change a radio button from Single to Multiple and visa versa. The function is called from the textfield with an onkeyup="function()". The problem I am having is that it works in IE just fine, but in Firefox it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm not getting any errors and can't seem to see what is the problem.
<script type="text/javascript"> function sum1() { noofrow = document.getElementById("NoOfRow").value-0;
[code].....
above code to get the sum of day1 day2 day3 onkeyup to get the total im really confusing above this plzz help me for to get the ttl value when key in values
to display the search results as the user is typing.
I pretty much know there is a way to do this, but how would I go about making it so that instead of activating the script as soon as a key is typed (onkeyup), it would wait 1/2 second or maybe 1 second before actually going forward with javascript:get(this.parentNode);
This would reduce server stress so that its not taxing the server every time the user hits a key to type something.
Does anyone know why this onKeyUp event will not fire? The input box is created fine and the focus moves fine, but the when I hit the appropiate key, nothing happens, the function is not even being called. Thanks for help
function check_line() { if(window.event.keyCode == 40) { var box = document.createElement('input'); box.setAttribute('name','note_box2'); box.setAttribute('type', 'text'); box.setAttribute('size', ïv'); box.setAttribute('maxlength', ླྀ'); box.setAttribute('onKeyUp', 'alert("hello")');
Im using onKeyUp on a text input field and everytime some information is gathered from a database through ajax.
Is there anyway to cancel onKeyUp events that are within X seconds of the previous event trigger? I dont want to use setTimeout because i dont want them called at all.
I have client side scripting for a text box value which truncates value if user enters more than 255 characters. For this i use both onchange and onkeyUp events. I added Server side validation too(more cautious) to restrict user from continuing the page if he enters more than 255 chars. We are using this product from 7 yeras and yesterday one of the customer said that(he has a screenshot too) he saw the server side error message. this explains that my client side javascript methods doesnot fire. he is using IE browser.
I'm trying to use onKeyUp and onBlur to validate html table field text entryI'm using Firefox in Windows XP, and Javascript is turned on.Mind taking a look to see why it's not working?
<html> <head> <title>javascript onKeyUp problem example</title>

I have a calculation system that uses ajax with php and xml and executes with onkeyup. The only problem with this is the result can be returned before the user finishes entering the entire number. My question is how can I give a delay prior to running the rest of the js.I know how to use setTimeout() but will it get reset out every time the function is called or for example if they enter 5 characters in the form, will the script be called 5 times with a second delay from each or will it only be called once? Is there a performance degradation involved?
