Oct 30, 2010
I have this code working, it's sorting by text, then a timestamp:
Code JavaScript:
jQuery.fn.sortBy = function() {
var selectors = arguments;
this.sort(function(a, b) {
[code]....
The script is called by the fuction
Code JavaScript:
$(".list_item").sortBy('.count', '.timestamp');
change the timestamp to sorting by regular number, like 1 - 10?

Formerly I've been replacing characters with javascript using the following code.
paramString = paramString.split("").join("<sup>");
paramString = paramString.split("").join("</sup>");
So if the user on my website types 52 it would return the following value: 52, or just, 5 how do I detect something like this. if they enter: 5 how can I detect the number "2" and put it superscripted past the number 5. so the javascript reads this: 5 and returns this: 52

I have a function below where every time a question is submitted, it will add a new row in the table with a textbox which allows numbers entry only. My question is that I don't know how to code these features in this function:
I want the text box to be between 0 and 100, so if text box contains a number which is above 100, it will automatically change the number to the maximum number which is 100.
Does any one know how to code this in my function below in javascript:

I'm trying to convert a line using a regular expression. The re I am using is this:
<div><span>·<span>[s*]</span></span>([^<]*)</div>
I'm using the expression in the replace function like this:
html = html.replace( /<div><span>·<span>[s*]</span></span>([^<]*)</div>/gi,'<li>$1</li>') ;
The line of code I am changing is like this:
<div><span>·<span> </span></span>Illness - where a pupil is too ill to leave the house</div>
E.g. it should strip out the code and leave <li>Illness - where a pupil is too ill to leave the house</li>. It works fine here [URL] but when used with the replace command it does not? (I'm trying to convert bullet points from word).

I have a webcam that uploads an image to my non-profit's website via FTP every 15 seconds. The filename is webcam.jpg. I have a javascript that automatically reloads the image (NOT the entire page) every 15 seconds as well. The script is as follows:
<script type="text/javascript">
function reloadImage() {
var now = new Date();
if (document.images) {
document.images.myobject.src = 'images/webcam.jpg?' + now.getTime();
}setTimeout('reloadImage()',15000);
}setTimeout('reloadImage()',15000);
</script>
The script works great--the webcam image refreshes every 15 seconds without refreshing the entire page. What I'm trying to do is add javascript that will also display the timestamp of the webcam.jpg file when the image is refreshed (so that people know what time/date the image they're looking at was taken). I'm guessing this involves some sort of AJAX request, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to make it happen.

Does anyone know of any "best practice" approach (or indeed ANY approach) to preventing accidental duplicate transactions on an e-commerce or online banking type site?
I'm having some issues on my site where the same transaction is being processed multiple times, and I've more-or-less ruled out user error (e.g. once the user clicks the SUBMIT button, some Javascript code disables it to prevent accidental extra clicks). It looks like the browser (or an intermediate proxy) is very occasionally reissuing GET and POST requests to the server, resulting in the same transaction being processed multiple times.

I'm trying to add a unix timestamp into an exisiting function, but am uncertain how you add the variable. I searched the boards here, and came across this example to convert a date to unix in javascript. var date3 = new Date(Date.parse("21 May 2009 10:03:20")); And I'm trying to add it to this: flashobj3.addVariable ("targetTime", $date3);

I'm hacking on a LISP interpreter in JS [1], and running into trouble with numbers and Number objects.
This is what I have:
var a = new Number(1);
var b = a;
document.writeln(a == b); // true
b = 2;
document.writeln(a == b); // false
document.writeln(a); // 1
Instead of replacing the *Number object* b with the *number* 2, I'd like to assign 2 to the value of the Number object, which should still be referenced by b *and* a. In other words, the two last lines should output "true" and "2".

I have a JavaScript function for swapping the values of rows in a table. I have a hidden field in each row to carry a record ID. As I switch the rows the function will update the hidden field but doesn't do it correctly if I switch a number of rows. I dynamically set the values to switch when the page loads but how can I change these values when the rows are moved.The idea is to change the order of a recordset by clicking on an up or down arrow and then save the values on the record id and sort order, the two hidden fields in each row.
function swapCells(idA,idB,id1,id2)
{
var cellA=document.getElementById('menu'+idA);

I have a form that collects information about up to 5 items. I would
like the user to be able to select from a drop down menu how many items
for which they want to compare information, and then have the form
change the number of input fields accordingly.
In other words, if the user selects enter info for 3 items, then input
fields for only 3 items are shown, if they change it to 4 items, then a
fourth column shows up in the table with the appropriate input fields.

Well instead of having to type good or moderate every-time to correlate with the numbers, I want to find a way the category can automatically default correctly when I put in just the number. Ex, if I put in the number 100, it automatically knows to issue/ put Moderate with out me having to type it. I semi wrote a code .. Yet can't seem to know how to execute. Seeing if Maybe I can get some assistance.
