Calling Variable In Onchange Function

Jul 23, 2005

I am using a javafunction (onclick in select) in which i am calling a
function in php (thats why i send this to both php and javascript
newsgroups).

in the onclick i call the function "Place_Selected" with the value from the
select (naam_keuze.value)

in the function the value becomes the $zoek_id and searches in the database
for the record with the id of $zoek_id

the naam_keuze.value does not give the value to $zoek_id When i replace naam_keuze.value for a number (15) i works great.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Code:

Ajax :: Calling The Same Function For Each Onchange, Or Different Functions?

Jul 20, 2010

I'm trying to build a t-shirt creator application w/ php and ajax.You can see where I'm at here.Thus far, I've successfully passed the first parameter from the form via a function called from an onchange event, which uses a php script to pass simple text (for the time being, 'til i get this figured out), which you can see working on the page.trying to update the output w/ each change they make via the form. For every step, the output on the right needs to update.Should I be calling the same function for each onchange, or different functions? Here's what I'm using as far as AJAX/form goes:

Code:
function showShirt(s) {
// CHECKS IF THE STRING IS EMPTY
if (s=="") {[code]...........

Calling A Function Containing A Variable?

Jul 12, 2010

I am trying to call a function from a link or button like the example below, however I would like to call the function whilst passing a variable along (not a string).

This isn't my code, it is a simple way of explaining what I am trying to do.

<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function myfunction(txt){

[Code]....

So instead of 'java too!' I would have a variable named "category" which could contain different data each time the button is pressed.

Variable Not Being Passed When Calling Function?

The code below is the relevant part to an autosuggest feature. The variable that isn't being passed is "firstValidIndex". It is being set appropriately, but when it is used in "sortArray()", its value is 0.

// here we must check to see if where the string matched was at the beginning of a string inside this.aNames
// firstValidIndex is the first index where the char is at the beginning of a string

Ajax :: Calling Multiple Functions With OnChange?

Feb 25, 2009

I have a series of dropdowns that allow the user to choose country, province and town respectively. The province dropdown is populated by an Ajax function when the user chooses their country, and the town dropdown is likewise populated by the user's selection in the province dropdown. This all works fine.

Of course, my client now wants to add a "major centres" dropdown between the province and town selection. This seemed straightforward to me, however in practice it's proving problematic. The "major centres" are drawn from the same dataset as the towns, however an extra flag is applied so that only records flagged as "main centre" appear.

Called separately , both the town dropdown and the main centre dropdown are populated. However, the problem comes in when the onChange event which is meant to update both dropdowns simultaneously fires. Watching the network behavior in Firefox, I see that calls to the ASP files which populate the town and major centre dropdowns DO happen, though only one of the calls actually returns values. I've checked this in IE7 also, and the same thing happens.

My function is called from the Province dropdown, like so:

Code:
<select name="Province" id="Province" onChange="callOthers(this);">
<option value="">---</option>
</select>

[Code]....

what might cause only the one dataset to be returned via Ajax? Either the towns are populated or the major centres, depending on which order I call the two handleOnChange functions from my callOthers function. As I said, BOTH Ajax calls are made, however only the results of ONE are being used in my page. Could this problem be related to 2 Ajax calls being made too close together?

JQuery :: Calling A Function ... $('submit").click(ClickGeocode) Versus Simply Calling ClickGeocode(credentials)

Jul 17, 2011

I have a form button with id="submit". When pressed, ClickGeocode(credentials) is called. This works fine and dandy with: $('submit").click(ClickGeocode) Despite there being no indication that the function takes an argument 'credentials'. So when I want to call the function at some point in my code, I should be able to do something like ClickGeocode(credentials) ... no? However, my issue is that credentials isn't once defined in my code - it is part of Bing Maps function... like so:

function ClickGeocode(credentials)
{
map.getCredentials(MakeGeocodeRequest);
}

So why does it work using .click(), and how can I call the function without user interaction (simply somewhere in my code) even if 'credentials' is not defined?

Using Onchange To Call PHP Include And Set Php Variable?

May 14, 2010

I'm building a form in PHP. One of the fields needs to generate information based on another selected input. The first input is for "phase" and based on that I need to count how many entries there are in the database for that phase, then display posible positions(ie 1 per entry including the entry being edited/added). I know that this can't be done with only PHP.

I don't work with Javascript normally so I am struggling. I have read many similar topics, but can't find the answer I am looking for.

I thought that the solution could be to call an include file when a selection for phase is made, but I don't know how to pass the information to the PHP script.

I'd prefer not to have to reload the page or form.

Here's the code that I have so far:

Code:

<html>
<head>
<body>
<form action="edit-category.php?id=<?php echo $id; ?>" method="post"

[Code]....

function ajax(str, b, c) {
a = b;
type = c;
if (type === 'form') {

in this, the variable a is set as the id of the elemnt/form, it works fine for elemnts, but not for forms,i think this is because its thinking a is the id, not the variable,

Refreshing A Href Variable Using OnChange Of A Select List

Jul 20, 2005

I'm trying to use the following script:

<script language="javaScript">
function setrepto(){
document.aForm.repno.value =
document.aForm.rep.options[document.aForm.rep.selectedIndex].value;
}
</script>

On the following form (Partly in asp):

<form name="aForm">
<select name="rep"
<option value="ALL">Select a Rep Here</option>
<%
while not slsrs.eof
repno = slsrs("SLS#")
repname = slsrs("SLSNAM")%>
<option value="<%=repno%>"><%=repname%></option>
<%slsrs.movenext
wend%>
</select>
</form>

To change the value of 'repno' in the following href, which is on the
same page:

<a href="nextpage.asp?rep=<%=repno%>">Click here</a>

So basically, as a user changes the selection, the value of repno in
the above href should change.

JQuery :: Passing A Variable From The Calling Script?

Oct 11, 2010

I've looked extensively for the answer to this but suspect my inexperience means I'm using the wrong "keywords" in searches, or the answer involves jquery beyond my comprehension.

I have script experience and have plug-in galleryView working but have no jQuery experience which is the problem.

The script:

<script type="text/javascript">
name
= getValue("name");
$(document).ready(function(){

[Code]....

Variable name contains data stripped from the page URL (www.url.com?name=3). I want to use this variable in the jquery array/list passed into the galleryView instead of the number 3. How can this be achieved? I suspect this could be done entirely in jquery (if I had the experience) or via the getdata script used above?

Call The Returned Value Of A Function Without Calling The Function?

May 13, 2011

I am creating a little word guess game, with a random function which picks the word from an array of 10 words. The second function checks if the users' letter choice is part of the secret word. Currently, each time the checkGuess() function is called, the word is changed, probably because I am calling the wordPicker() function from within. The wordPicker randomly chooses the word, then returns that word. All I want to do is pull that word into the checkGuess function, without calling the wordPicker function as it currently does. Here is the code:

Create secret word array
var wordList = new Array("stealth", "telephone", "internet", "nickel", "marine", "instantiate", "method", "function", "television", "monitor")

Calling A Function From A Parameter Of Another Function?

Jun 29, 2009

Captions for the images are called from the parameters of the main function and delivered into a span or div tag with the appropriate id. A very important part of what needs to be in the captions is text compiled by a separate function, in the project library.I've tried this with and without curly, square and round brackets, with and without semicolons and quotes- all with varying results. Sometimes the function is called, but it appears at the very top of the page and nowhere near the proper <span> tag.

addImage(a,b,c,d);
// filename, image name and caption are in a, b and c.
// d is the variable where I need to write my other function...
addRef(t,s);
// I need to put addRef in the d parameter of addImage.
