Allows ONLY Decimals To Be Typed Into A Text Field

Apr 11, 2011

I have a script that allows ONLY numbers to be typed into a text field. I have tried to modify this script to allow Decimals (periods) to be typed as well, but haven't succeeded. The code in Red are the changes I added to this script, but it isn't working out.

function numbersOnly(evt) {
var charCode = (evt.which) ? evt.which : event.keyCode
if (charCode > 31 && (charCode < 48 || charCode > 57) && (charCode < 110 || charCode > 110))
return false;
return true;
}

Second Problem: I need to set a Minimum number users may type in the text field. Normally this would be a simple task, but the minimum number they may type is a decimal (0.10). The default value in the field is .50. I tried replacing the .50 with .09, and I can't get the field to run the script and set its new value to .10 (<- this is the minimum). Here is the code I am working with.

Run A Function When Text Is Typed In An Input Field?

Jul 15, 2011

I want to run a function when text is typed into an input field. So every time 1 character is put in it will process a function. However I do not know how to accomplish this. I tried the onchange attributed but that seems to only work when you unselect the input field.

how this might be accomplished? I'm also comfortable with jQuery if you think that's a better option.

Update Text As Numbers Are Typed Into Input Field

Jul 22, 2010

I'm creating a page that calculates a number depending on what value is inputted into a text field. I need to create some javascript that updates this new calculated value and outputs it next to the input field. Anytime the user changes the number, it recalculates the value. My calculation is currently being produced by PHP, however if I need to, I can create javascript as well to recalculate these numbers.

Formatting Auto-computed OnChange Field To 3 Decimals?

Dec 13, 2010

I have some fields on my form that are auto-populating with a difference from 2 input fields using onChange, easy stuff. The correct value is stored in the DB, to 3 decimal places (correct, since data type is a float with 3 decimals).The challenge I am having is to get the number that is auto-displaying on the form to format to 3 decimals. For example, when I enter the first number at 44.8, and a second number of 44.666, the onChange command displays '0.13400000000000034'. This is saved in the db correctly as, '0.134' and once the form is submitted the correct value of 0.134 displays since it is pulling directly from the db. I would like to format the onChange display with the toFixed command so the extra decimals don't show onChange.

Onfocus Text Disapears, On Blur Text Reappears If Nothing Is Typed In?

Jan 9, 2010

im trying to implement a login screen similar to Facebook. What i mean by this is i want the username and password fields to have text in them until the user selects the textfield. If the user does not type anything in the textfield the the onblur will automatically change it back, but if the user has typed something in then i want the text to be left alone.At the moment the onblur always changes the value of the textfield. Im not sure how to solve this.(code i am using is below)

Code:
<input name='username' type='text' size="10" value="username" onfocus="this.value=''" onblur="this.value='username'"/>

Text Being Typed And Then Vanishes ?

May 25, 2010

I want a script that "types" my text letter by letter and also deletes the text letter by letter. I want it to look as if someone is typing the text live, and then when the start of the text deletes (letter by letter), it would start from the beginning, erasing the letters in the same pace new letters are being "typed". So this way you would never see the whole text, but only a bit of it at a time. By the time you would get to the end of the text, the beginning wouldn't be there. And I don't want the text in a box!

OnClick Adds Text Field To Page (Limit 3 - Each Text Field Displays Different Text)

Nov 22, 2010

I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right

<script language="javascript">
fields = 1;
function addMore() {
if (fields = 1) {
document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>";

Converting Decimals To Fractions?

Jul 18, 2009

I know this is a rather odd post but I need to be able to convert a decimal to a fraction.Really all i need to know to get what i have to work is being able to tell if a number is whole or not. For instance if i have an accuracy set of .0625 = 1/16"If i take my variable which is set to .5625 (9/16")so if i take variable/accuracy in this case would equal 9. So this way i would know that the numerator would be 9 and my denominator would be 16.If i take the same accuracy of 1/16 and now introduce a variable of 0.5 then it will give me a remainder.

Search A String For Decimals.

Jul 26, 2005

this function is supposed to search a string for decimals and tell me how many of them it has found, but for some reason, it's not doing it right. since the "period" character is a special character in regular expressions,I went ahead and escaped it, but it's still doesn't work.

function ImprovedFormatAmount(ElementId)
{
var oElement = document.getElementById(ElementId);
var ElementValue = oElement.value;
var DecimalRegXp = /./g;
var OutputValue = ElementValue;
if (OutputValue.length > 0)
{alert (OutputValue.search(DecimalRegXp));}

Create Random Number Between 1 - 50 With Decimals?

May 24, 2011

How would I go about creating a random number between 1-50 that COULD include whole numbers, decimals to the tenth, hundredth and the thousandth place?
Ex) 2.145, 3, 5.8, 41.002, 10.12, 7, 18.023, 33.2

Also, if the only way to do it is to put trailing zeros to the thousandth place that's fine as well
Ex) 2.145, 3.00, 5.800, 41.002, 10.120, 7.00, 18.023, 33.200

Linking Text Field To Hidden Field?

Apr 2, 2009

I have created a html purchase request form that people will fill out and submit to make purchase requests within my company. In this html form, I have a text field that is automatically populated when the page is pulled up. The text field is populated with the name of the person who is logged in and it is read only so they cannot be deceitful or anything.To get to this HTML Request form, you must log in through a webclient thus the server knows to populate your name because you are the one logged in. The text field populates because of its <input NAME = "OBProperty_CurrentUserRealName", which is a keyword the program identifies and knows to populate with the logged in users name into that particular text field.

That works all fine and dandy, so here is where the problem lies. When submitting the overall form request, the populated name isnt being saved/ carried over to the admin page so we do not know who it was submitted by.To make the persons name carry over and save, another field name keyword must be used.

Which is OBKey__163_1. Which it was suggested to me to make that the input name of a hidden field. I need "text field A" to continue to populate the form with the persons name using OBKey_CurrentUserRealName, then pass the persons name off to a hidden field containing the input name=OBKey__164_1, which will thus save/pass the persons name on with the rest of the filled out request form when its submitted.

Here is what I have:

<input name="OBProperty_CurrentUserRealName" type="text" id="buyer" style="width:100%" readonly="readonly">
<input name="OBKey__163_1" type="hidden" id="OBKey__163_1">

Calculate Once New Value Is Typed In?

I'm working on creating a custom calculator to determine the amount of money / credits users may earn from referrals. I've tested onChange, and it will work only when I have changed to a new field or clicked off that field. How do I make this calculate live?

So if the current value is 5 and I change it to 6, it will automatically recalculate the new value.

You can see what I'm working on here:

Note: The one I'm testing is the 1st Level field. For now i'm just having it display the date.
