May 10, 2011
I saw a button that adds text to where the typing cursor is put.. for example:if the cursor is between the (how) and (you) in the following:how you. when you click the button it adds text between those two words so that it becomes: how are you?

I have a button and a textarea. I want this button to add tags around the selected words in that textarea. For example the button is to add the <b> tag before the selected words and the </b> tag after the selected words. Just like these buttons, in the forms of creating a new thread,that are used to make the font of the selected words bold, italic, underlined or colored.

Is it possible to trigger the action of a form with a submit button that's outside the form tags? If so, how should this example be rescripted to make the input tag work outside the form tags?

I have extremely text intensive web pages. A search engine can find the page but then my users have to search for the word using Ctrl+F. Google can highlight the found terms on the page but google does not index every page on my sites.
I need a way to highlight found words on my web pages by using an input box at the top of the page. The user will type in a word to find and the script will highlight all the found words on a page.
Here is code that is supposed to work to find an individual word but not all words. The code does not work for me.

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed.
The trouble I am having is that I'd like to create an additional button that will insert some text (certain html tags to make their life easier, etc) - I got it to work, actually. The script executes and the text is inserted - but once the script runs and the page refreshes (or whatever it does), the text then disappears. The only way I can seem to get it to stay put is when I use "onmouseup" instead of "onclick" - which means that every time the user accidentally mouses over the thing, it inserts the text.

I have a problem in Javascript that I really cant figure out, I've tried for days! here it goes: I need to iterate through a form and get all the elements that has a class like "required" and then, save this elements id, because I have label elements that has a for="" tag with the same as the id for the input/dropdown in the form. To all these labels I need to apply a "*" in the end of the label. And all this in an onload function.
I have tried everything I can come up with but now I'm close to giving up so now I need help, how can I get these values and do this?

I'm trying to 'wrap tags' around text in a text box.
<script language=javascript>
function insertFauxTags(fauxTag, e, endFauxTag)
{
var e = document.frmAddNewForum.txtTopicMessage.selected;
document.frmAddNewForum.txtTopicMessage.Value += fauxTag + e + endFauxTag;
}
</script>
And my form:
<form runat="server" id="frmAddNewForum">
<asp:textbox id="txtTopicMessage" runat="server" cssclass="formtext" rows="5" textmode="MultiLine" width="95%" style="width:95%"></asp:textbox>
</form>
And here's how I'm calling the function:
<a href="javascript:insertFauxTags('[p]' + e + '[/p]')"><img src="http://www.<%=strSiteName%>/images/parabutton.gif" border="0" alt="Paragraph" /></a>
When I run this in FF I get 'e' is not defined - any ideas?

I have taken a class on PHP and started making some math homework and drills for the tutoring I do. I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLets say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

function get(obj) {
var getstr = "?";
for (i=0; i<obj.getElementsByTagName("input").length; i++) {
if (obj.getElementsByTagName("input")[i].type == "text") {
getstr += obj.getElementsByTagName("input")[i].name + "=" +
obj.getElementsByTagName("input")[i].value + "&";
}
I have a form with input objects enclosed in a table, but this part of a script cannot find the input objects unless it is outside the table.

what I'm trying to do is get text from between two tags, just like the title says. Now I know I can get that through the innerHTML property, but its just that, I don't want HTML, I want plain text. Consider the following example.
<span id="p-5641">
This is <strong>strong</strong> & you should really put <em>emphasis</em> on that <a href="#">anchor</a>.<br>Line broken
</span>
Now, what I want is, to get the text from between these span tags. That can be done by refering the ID of the span & innerHTML but that would give HTML & I want to strip off the HTML from it, so that I'm left with plain text, like
This is strong & you should really put emphasis on that anchor.
Line broken
with <br> & <p> tags preserved.

I have a forum with over 5000 topics (lots of content in each topic) and I have a wiki-website with over 4000 articles. Both share the same database and are similar in context.
Now, I was wondering if there is a JavaScript out there that can could scan my forum page and underline words on that page that are articles on the wiki. For instance, if I have an article in the wiki entitled "Heart", where ever "Heart" appears in the forum, it is underlined and linked to that exact article on the wiki.
This conceptual idea is very similar to In-Text advertisements, such as Kontera, but I can't seem to find the scripting they use.

For example I have an array of List elements.
HTML Code:
<ul id="my_div"><li>
<div class="title">title1 here</div>
<div class="message"><a href="#">message1</a></div>
</li><li>
<div class="title">title2 here</div>
<div class="message"><a href="#">message2</a></div>
</li>
...
</ul>
I iterate through each list element, and do something like:
$("#my_div").each(function(){
$(this).find(".message").html();
});
This code will give me:
<a href="#">message1</a>
But is there a way to just get "message1" ????

I've got a form with a textarea box, currently you can just type a message in the box and submit it, then it is added to a mysql database and shows up on a page I made for people to view staff memos.
I've been asked to add formatting options like bold, italic, underline etc. Unfortunately me and javascript have never really met so I'm quite stumped. I can handle the form processing with PHP converting [b] to <strong> etc myself but I need help with the actual user interface.
