I am a NEWBIE... I am trying to get the Weather_widget code in the "SimplyJavaScript" book to run successfully.
I have installed Apache 2.2, PHP 5.1. Tested the ajax_weather.php from the browser and it works. put when the following line executes:
requester.open("GET",
http://localhost/ForSimplyJavaScript/ajax_weather.php?city=" + encodeURIComponent(city), true);
I get the following error:
"uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open
The code is from the book but I'll attached it just in case...
Can anyone tell me how to use XMLHTTPRequest or MS ActivcXObject open a
local file?
I have a table with a SAVE button on each row (id=SaveBD)...but I also have aSAVE ALL button at the top. It works pretty good except the .each function seems torandomly stop near the end ofthe row countand not save all the rows.that would cause the rows to stop saving?
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#SaveAll").click( function(event){
$ ("#SaveAll").hide();

I'm trying to create a demo to display a new way of showing our data.I thought I remembered this being pretty simple but I'm hitting a snag. The table, the mouse over, and the check row by clicking on the row all work separately but when the check row by clicking function is on, seen in the first row, the checkbox stops working.

I have a simple function to display an image when called, but if I try to rewrite the function to take the image as an argument, it stops working.
works:
<html>
<script language="JavaScript">
var ImagePlusSign = '<img src="plus.jpg" name="slide" width="65" height="50"/>';

When thebody section below iscommented out, I get hello, and when it isn't, I don't !
$("body"
).click(function
(e){
return

Is this a bug, is it an unavoidable aspect of the "live" architecture

I am wondering how can I return the variable senttext from the function below?I have declared it and when I alert(senttext) below it appears as I want it but I need to return it and pass it to another function. When I change alert() to return the variable becomes undefined?
var senttext;
function getData()
{
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
[code]...
document.write("Goodbye!");
works but I put ^ that inside a function
function SayHello ()
(
document.write("Goodbye!");
)
and it stops working? I know the function call works because when I place some code to display an image in SayHello function, it displays the image
I don't really undertand what do $("#" + this) and $("#" + i) mean. What's the meaning of "#"? I don't understand too why the first each() function stops at "three". I think it should be return (this == "three"); instead of return (this != "three");.

Based on the following function, what parm would I add to get the new page to open maximized?

I have a button that opens up a dialog box. When "search" in the dialog box is clicked, another dialog box is supposed to open. Everything works great ONE TIME. If I try clicking on the button again, the first dialog box opens, but when I click on "search" again, nothing happens.

I am trying to open a document or window from
<a href="#" onclick="javascript: Open_Win();"><img src="images/Touching-God-Fast.jpg" alt="Touching God Fast" width="320" height="65" border="0"></a>
Where the function Open_Win() is:
function Open_Win()
{
window.open("http://www.xyz.org/Touching-God-Fast.html","Touching God Fast","scrollbars=yes, statusbar=yes, height=500, width=850");
}
Works great on a Mac but under IE in windows xp it states that there is an error on the page. What am I doing wrong?
I'm redesigning my webpage and thought it would be a good idea to have windows popup if someone had a question about terminology. So basically, I wrote a small function that was supposed to popup a 400x300 window centered towards the top left of the screen with some basic parameters...
this code is inserted into the head
Code:
<Script Language="JavaScript 1.1" type="text/javascript;version=1.1">
function jargon(url){
var screenw = 800;
var screenh = 600;
screenw = screen.width;
screenh = screen.height;
var mywin = window.open(url, 'jargon', 'left=screenw / 4, top=screenh / 4, width=400, height=300, toolbar=0, menubar=0, resizeable=0, status=0');
}
</script>
(the screenw and screenh are meant for older browsers)
which is meant to be embedded in the code like....
Code:
<a href="#" onclick="jargon('../jargon/php.php');">PHP</a>
But whenever I try this, it just uses the # link and nothing happens.
This is the link (and I have a function called check_group):
Code:
<a href="javascript:viod(0)" onclick="check_group('<?php echo $codart ?>','<?php echo $codfam ?>')"><?php echo $gname?></a>
I have a function called check group. I want to open that link in a new window.
I am studying Javascript to custom my yahoo estore, I need to open a custom sized window in a new browser , I tried the following script on 3 different PCs running XP
pro. IE 6, it worked on one and did not work on the other two. Code:
turning the following inline code:
<a href="http://www.bing.com/" name="bing" onclick="return !window.open(this.href)">Bing</a><br>
<a href="http://www.lycos.com/" name="lycos" onclick="return !window.open(this.href)">Lycos</a><br>

into an external javascript function that will do the same thing (open all links in a new window individually if javascript is enabled, without destroying links in html for if javascript is not enabled).
I'm figuring this will need to be done in a function. I'm building a page builder with 2 fields, a textbox called 'title' and a textarea called 'text' (imaginative huh!).
I want to have a preview facility. I've built the preview page, all I want to do is have a javascript button that passes the value of those two text fields to this preview page in the querystring. Is there a way using variables to pass this through?
I have the following code:
Code:
$(".buy_icon").click(function () {
window.location = "[URL]"
});
Which loads the URL in the current browser window when the div (buy_icon) is clicked. How can I load the URL in a new tab or window?
I'm jusing prototype-1.4.0.js as framework.
I have a function to populate three listboxes. The items in the
listboxes are from a MYSQL database and are related. The items are
requested by a php page.
Most of the time everything works fine, but sometimes I end u with only
one or two listboxes.
I can't figure out what's going wrong here. I've tested in Firefox and
Internet Explorer, both the same problem.
Does anyone know why my code sometimes stops executing?
Could it be that i made too many requests in a short time so the next
request can't execute because the current has't finished?
Hope anyone has an idea of what's going wrong.
My website is all up and running and I decided to put a new image viewing script on, I already had a revolving image script showing all my previous work before but the latest script has totally stopped the previous from working. You can view what I mean at www.actioncomputing.co.uk
I am using 2 scripts both available on Dynamic Drive they are
Lightbox image viewer 2.03a Ultimate Fade-in slideshow (v2.1)
If anyone can tell me why this is I would be extremely gratefull.
This <div> layer positioned always at bottom left of the screen on scrolling (and calling some code from labpixies) works well in non-ie browsers, but in ie it requires the omission of the doctype declaration. Why? Is it possible to fix it so that it works with the doctype in ie?

At the moment I have a link in a div that targets an ASP page to remove an item from the database.
<a class="small" href="/products.asp?Action=RemoveProduct&ID=<%=(rsCartItems.Fields.Item("ID").Value)%>">remove</a>
What I could like to do is use JQuery .click and .ajaxmethods but the only thing I am unsure of is hot to get the ID of the a href tag containing the unique item ID that relates to the db record. Can I use this.id?
<script>
$(document).ready(function
(){
$(".removecartitem"
