Writing Content Without InnerHTML
Jun 15, 2004
I had a nice little system set up that was actually working well. Then I found out that it didn't work in Netscape 4.77/Win. How can I write content inside of a div tag without using innerHTML?

I want to insert html/php content into my existing html. I've put together the following code, which works except for the first line:
div.innerHTML = '<param name="userId" value="<' + '?php echo $_SESSION["userId"] ?' + '>">
<param name="id" value="' + id + '">
<param name="title" value="' + title + '">
<param name="type" value="rfq">';
The first line incorrectly comes out as:
<param name="userId" value="<?php echo $_SESSION[" userId="" ]="" ?="">" />
I want it to come out as (after being parsed by php):
<param name="userId" value="user123">

I am encountering this problem with Firefox, but no problem in IE. I have in a hidden <div> dynamically generated select options intended for re-use by dynamically created forms on page.
For Example:
<div>
<option value="1">xxx</option>
</div>
With javascript, when I use getElementById() to get the <div>, and then get the innerHTML, on IE I get the content just as they were generated out, and I was able to put this into an empty <select> and everything works. But when I try the same in Firefox, the innerHTML returns only the text part of the content. The "<option value="1">" part has been stripped off. Wondering if there's a solution to get around this?

This is what Im doing: [url]
I am using dhtmlxtree and I would like to display the contents of the drag and drop treeview (pulled from an xml file) from the Build your Template section on the left to the WYSIWYG area on the right.
I thought that by using innerHTML to display onclick() to the div will solve my problem, but thats not the case When I click the preview template button, I get an undefined error.
The innerHTML script:
The build your template container Div:
The XML File:
And the WYSIWYG holding area:

alerts the innerHTML content in all the browsers. Except in Firefox 3.6.8, which alerts a blank value. What the f?:confused: I know that innerHTML is not a standard DOM method, but it used to be a crossbrowser one since FF 1.5, right? Edit: It does not work even in case of firstChild.nodeValue or firstChild.data. FF 3.6.8 says that the DIV element has no first child, which is amazing.

I am adding drop down boxes to a div using javascript on a user action, if these boxes are assigned a value by the user then the user adds more boxes the values previously selected are cleared.
It does not happen if an option is selected in the HTML when the page is loaded.

i've been reading up on access to the dom via js (i'm new to this dom
stuff)
i understand tutorials and info such as
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/doc...t.createElement
my problem: i'd like js to create the code for a stylesheet in the head
of the docuement!
i'm not sure how do do this (or if it can be done)
can i create the following...
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href="mystyle.css" />
OR
<style type="text/css">
hr {color: sienna}
p {margin-left: 20px}
body {background-image: url("images/back40.gif")}
</style>
using the dom or anything else in js alone?...or am i fighting a losing
battle.
(what i really want at the end of the day is to detect the browser and
use a css file according to that file, either with js or php)...

I have an existing page that dynamically creates data in a popup
window. I am trying to change it to use an iFrame. Is the following
code valid:
The iFrame is as follows
<iframe src="theframe.html" name="theframe"></iframe>
"theframe.html" is an existing file initially with instructions.
In a script I do
thewindow=window.open("","theframe");
thewindow.document.open();
thewindow.document.write("Some Requested Data");
thewindow.document.close();
This is done multiple times depending on what the user requests each
time. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm probably doing
someing very wrong but I don't know where to look for reference.
I'm not really opening a window so there must be another way to do it.
What is the best way to write to an iFrame or should I not even try?
Code:

I'm trying to write a Tic-Tac-Toe program in JavaScript. I have an array containing the state of the grid. For some reason when I update the "O" for the computer's move, it doesn't show this in the updated grid. I don't understand why.[URL].. I'm brand new to JavaScript, and sometimes I accidentally use syntax from C++ or PHP when writing, so it could be something as simple as that. I just can't figure it out.

I'm not that familiar with javascript, and I am trying to write a
toFixed function.
The function takes two arguments, the number and the number of decimal
places we're interested in.
If the number of decimal places is negative, it's interpreted as the
number of significant digits.
Thus:
toFix(12345.6789,2) -12345.67
toFix(12345.6789,0) -12345
toFix(12345.6789,-2) -12000
I've hacked up a solution that so far works on all tested browsers for
the first 2 cases.
It's the last one I'm having trouble with... How do I get only the
significant digits?
It has to work for all of the following cases:
toFix(12345.6789,-2) -12000
toFix(12345.6789,-5) -12345
toFix(12345.6789,-7) -12345.67
