Why Onclick Doesn't Work On Submit Button

Aug 29, 2009

I added a submit button with an onclick event and an alert message to say it doesn't work yet, but if I push the button, it isn't taken into account and the form is submitted to the cgi.

Code:

<input id="saveForm" class="button_text" type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" onclick="alert('Sorry, it's not working yet!');return false;" >

OnClick="form.submit(); Doesn't Work On IE And Opera

Aug 19, 2009

I have a code (see below), in Firefox it works perfectly: it saves submitted information after clicking __JL_SAVE button and keeps user on same page.But in Internet Explorer & Opera it only redirects to index page (index.php) and doesn't save submitted information.

Here is code:

echo '<form action="index.php" id="mosForm" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">';
global $mainframe;
echo "<pre>".print_r($mainframe->_session,true)."</pre>";

Repeated OnClick Doesn't Work In IE ?

Jan 27, 2010

I'm doing a very simple click count funktion with Ajax where I put some data in a mySQL database when some links are clicked:

onClick="UpdateSQL('1', '190', 'divname', 'message');"
function UpdateSQL(KundeID, IP, sideElement, kaldMessage) {
document.getElementById(sideElement).innerHTML = kaldMessage;

[code]....

And the file called puts the data in the database..This all workes fine, but if I click the link again, it doesn't work... It works in Firefox, if I click the link or button or whatever it puts data in the database multiple times...But in IE7 and 8 it only works on the first click, and when you have to close the browser window and and go to the url again make it count one more click...

Onclick Doesn't Work When Dynamically Creating Div

Feb 5, 2010

I'm a JavaScript noob, and I'm playing with it. I have some code which created a div inside another div by using the innerHTML of the outer div. That had an onclick event which worked fine. Now I'm trying to create the div as an object, so I'm doing something like this:

Code JavaScript:

var obj = document.createElement('div');
obj.id = "object";
obj.onClick = function() {alert("Clicked");};
obj.innerHTML = "something"; // an img tag in the actual code
document.getElementById('objects').appendChild(obj);

The new div is shown, but clicking on it does nothing. (I originally had another function, but changed to the alert for testing.)

OnClick Works Properly But Following If Statement Doesn't Work?

Sep 1, 2011

I have a simple problem that I can't solve. I am trying to code a "More Info" button/link to display some more technical details of an item, if required or wanted. I haven't tried incorporating any code in to my web site yet, first I am trying to test how it can be done in a seperate file.

What I have right now is a table with two cells. In one cell is static text, in the other is a hyperlink. The onClick event calls a JS function called "more_info()" in which a global varible is altered to contain the value 1.

Directly after these two cells is more JS (this is before the table ends). The JS here is checking to see whether the value of the global variable has been changed. If the value is 1, display information. There is no "else" clause because I don't want information displayed unless the variable is equal to 1, so it is not required.

I think I know what the problem might be. The browser is reading the code in question before I ever click the link and has already been executed before the variable is changed. I know JS is object oriented so it will not sit there waiting for me to click the button before reading the logical statements.

Onclick Event Doesn't Work In Firefox 3.6 And Chrome

Feb 13, 2010

I'm working on a image slider, which will slide left to right and vice versa on mouser over event. the images are dynamically loaded from the database using ASP script. I use mootools.svn.js for the sliding implementation. and Ajax to pass the id of the image to another page as a query string. this is implemented in a onclick="getValue('<%= id %>')" event. This works fine in IE8, but when I test in Firefox 3.6 and Chrome the onclick event doesn't work. when I comment the mootools.svn.js, the onclick event get fired.

Javascript Onclick Event On Submit Button

Oct 6, 2005

I created a "cancel" button for my form at the clients' request, I
accidentally copied a submit button and added an OnClick event- a very
simple javascript.history function. It did not appear to work at all-
it kept submitting the form. I changed the submit button to a plain
old button and it worked fine.

Can anyone explain how the browser works with a javascript onClick
event ona submit button? Does it automatically submit the form no
matter what onClick event you use?

This script disables it onclick, the problem is I can't figure out how to get it to submit the form as well.I have found it does submit if the input type is 'submit', but then it doesn't call the disable function. Button OnClick Event Does Not Work?

Sep 21, 2010

I have identical code in my index that works, so I'm just guessing the error is somewhere else, I know IE is not the best target to aim for - but I really want this to work in the windows default browser....

Here is the php page...
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>[code]....
and here is the javascript that works in the index but not here...
function Abort()
{
document.location="AddFamilyMember.php";
};

When I load the page everything looks ok, but click on the abort button, and all that happens is that the little error symbol pops in the lower left of IE. The names of the two files are "AddFamilyMember.php" and "AddFamilyMember.js".

AJAX :: Back Button - Broken - On The Internet - Doesn't Work On IE

Feb 3, 2010

I'm recently programming a website with ajax and no i have found a solution for the back button problem (broken) on the internet, but it doesn't work on IE. it works on firefox, chrome, safari,...

Every time the user changes the page the url is stored in history with this code:

Code:

It adds after the url a '#' sign with the name of the page...

After that the program will store the url in a non-displayed div

And now i've set up an interval that checks the url adress bar and that div if they are not the same the page will load the url in the adress bar here is the code:

Code:

I've checked the problem with IE. IE will not read the current adress bar. It's always reading the url of the current page but not the url of the adress bar. And i've tried almost every combination with document.location, window.location, href, hash,...at least here's is my url:[url]

Ajax :: Loaded Form Search Or Submit Button Will Not Work

Nov 20, 2010

I load into a div on index.php page via AJAX another php page. Once that page loads, I lose all the function of that page. For example, I click on the search or submit button and nothing happens.

I am trying to create a site using mostly PHP and MySQL and I have integrated some AJAX functions into the site to load new PHP pages into a DIV called "dynamic" on the index.php page without having to reload the entire page. This is working great.

However, when I use the menu with the following hyperlink <a href="javascript: addContent('sample.php', 'dynamic')"> calling the AJAX code to load the sample.php page inot the the DIV dynamic, the sample.php pages loads into the DIV but the PROBLEM is that the submit, and or search functions on the sample.php page stop working.

I believe that this has something to do with using the AJAX code because it is Asynchronous. Perhaps I need to use live or event delegation.

Since I am new to webdevelopment and trying to learn best practices if anyone knows a good way to load PHP forms into a DIV on perhaps a index.php page and then have the form controls still work.

Also I have been using NuSphere PhpED for an IDE which has helped me step through PHP and MySQL code to solve problems real well. However, I would like to get a recommendation on a IDE to use with Java Script and AJAX. Part of my problem with resolving this issue is that I can't step through the code to see what is not happening..
