Using <div Onclick="""> To Call An <a></a> Link
Jul 3, 2009
Is it possible to do something like this?
<div id="btn1" onclick="//somehow call page2Link here"><a href="page2.html" id="page2Link">Page 2</a></div>
Basically it's to try and make the text work with the a:hover text effect I have whilst making the whole layer sensitive to clicks.
i tried this already:
<a href="page2.html" id="page2Link"><div id="btn1" ><a href="page2.html" id="page2Link">Page 2</a></div></a>
but it's untidy and a bit rubbish is there a better way to do it neatly?
I know i could always call a JS function to do a parent.location thing but i would rather not if possible.

sometimes new page loading is to fast.
<a href="http://www.google.com" onclick="new Image().src='http://
www.example.com/process.cgi?p=1'">

Im updating a website to use ajax instead of Iframes. Ajax is working fine to load html content into a <div> yet my issue lies with the navigation buttons that trigger my ajax requests.
I have css styled buttons that contain <a> links </a>, i have removed the href and used a onclick event instead but when i remove the href the mouse will lose its hand cursor on hover and the css styled buttons stop working correctly.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function loadXMLDoc()
{
if (window.XMLHttpRequest)

what's the correct syntax to call 2 functions from an onclick attribute? the code below doesnt work, maybe im putting semi colons in the wrong place? since the second function needs the return false, im guessing i should put that one last since return false would stop anything after that from running.
Code:
<a onclick='return confirm("are you sure?"); some_function(param1, param2 ); return false;'>test</a>
am i on the right track?

I am trying to create an image viewer with javascript and CSS. Unfortunately however, the onclick events in my image tags seem to work every once in a while for a few page loads then for some reason they just stop working completely and seemingly for no reason at all (i.e. I dont change any code). I've been messing around with this for at least a couple of weeks now and cant figure it out, so it is time to hit up the forums.
Below is the code I am trying to use:
Code:
<div class="nav"><img src="images/downblue.png" name="down" height="20px" width="20px" onClick="down();" /></div>
<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
function down() {
[Code]....
there is also an onload part in this script that doesn't execute. If I put an actual alert statement in the onclick part of the tag that will execute.

I have a small portal website with some ads around. I'm in the process of creating an ads manager script with php and mysql and would like to know when an ad was clicked. I'm confused on how to do this but, the only way I can think of is by adding an onclick even to every ad img:
HTML Code:
<a onclick="callfunction('ad_id');" href="ad url"><img src="path"></a>
Now, how would I call a php function with onclick? I guess that can be done with ajax but, don't know much on how to use it?

I have a JavaScript image gallery that loads in a DIV. I have 4 different Galleries - each with their own image array stored in it's own External JavaScript file.
What I want to do, is when you click on a link to any of the 4 galleries that an onclick function calls the relevant external JavaScript file and then loads the array of images in the same DIV. I want to remain on the same page at all times...just a different array of images is seen by the user in the DIV.

Here's my problem code:
document.onclick=handler;
function handler(e) {
//do stuff
var params = "something";
var request = new XMLHttpRequest();
request.open("GET", "http://www.foo.com/bar.php?" + params, true);
[Code]....
Now is user clicks something else but not a link everything works just fine. But if she clicks a link, the bar.php call does not work (never comes to the server). If I change the call to a synchronuous one request.open("GET", [URL] false) also clicking a link works fine. But I would of course prefer the async way.

I have a web page a lot of thumbnail images arranged in a table. I would like the user to be able to click on the thumbnail to open a window with a larger view of the image.
So I wrote a JS function to accept a URL as the argument and open a new pop-up window with the given parameters. I need this function to potentially run multiple times from multiple links (in this case images) on the same page. However, after the first time I click the link, the function runs, and I close the pop-up, the function will not run again if I click the same or another link on the page. If I refresh the page, the function will work once and then not again. Is there a buffer I need to clear or something to reset to allow multiple links to work?
I have tried the function call in a whole slew of ways. Here's my current code (I "..."'ed out the URLs for brevity):
<script type="text/javascript">
function zoomWindow(url)
{
zoomWindow=window.open(url,"", "toolbar=no, location=no, directories=no, status=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=no, copyhistory=no, height=645px, width=550px");
[Code]....

Is it possible to set an html element's (created through HTML DOM's createElement() method) 'onclick' attribute's value to a Javascript function which requires a parameter, passing a variable to it at the same time?
I have the following Javascript code:
var parentDiv = document.getElementById("subscribers");
var stubSpan = document.createElement("span");
stubSpan.id = "opentok_subscriber_" + stream.streamId;
stubSpan.onclick = showStreamInFullScreenMode(stream);
parentDiv.appendChild(stubSpan);
'stream' in the bolded line is a parameter variable of the function that the above code is in, and I'm trying to pass it to another function using an onclick event.

I have a few buttons on a page I'm developing and I want the onclick event to call a javascript function in an external file and execute it. I would like to be able to pass a parameter to that function and then either have the function take the user to a new URL or make changes to the webpage content.
Initially (just to test) I had inline javascript that caused an alert to popup. That worked fine. Next I took the inline code and put it in a function in an external javascript file that was referenced in the HTML:
