Using JS "WRITE" Type Functionality Without Erasing The Original Page.
Jul 20, 2005
Is it possible? I'm trying to add to the current page -- but add at a
specific point. Can add HTML tags from javascript midway through the page
(at a place I specify) without erasing the existing page?
I have implemented a tooltip type control in my site. Basically when a user rolls over an image with the class 'friend_pic', a div with the id "members_tooltip" pops up with more information about the source of the image and when the user rolls away from the image the div gets removed. The data is retrieved via an ajax post. The tooltip pops up down and to the right of the mouse pointer and there is also a function to move it as the mouse moves.
This sort of works but gets buggy if you roll around the image really quickly often the div's content will disappear but the empty div stays on the page. Here is how it is coded: //display a tooltip type popup with more information about a person when you hover over their pic
[Code]...
});Again it only happens when the mouse is moved really quickly, and the error is often the content of the tooltip being removed but the empty div remaining.
I have some text that I need to use on multiple pages on my site. I thought it would be easy to have an external .js file and then link itto display om each page I need it. I can create the script (the .js file) but I can't get it to write to the webpage inside the Body tags..
Let me preface this with the usual disclaimer: I am new to this and have only been programming with Javascript, PHP for about 2 weeks now and have been lucky enough to have resolved the issues I have encountered. This one however is puzzling to me.
I have a HTML form created that collects member information. It calls, on submit, a confirmation page that lists all the data fields entered. This all works great. However, when I then post the variables from the first html form page from my second confirmation html page to my PHP script, using document.write with input type=hidden and inserting the address variable into the value field, the Javascript only passes this variable up to the first space. It is the only variable I pass that has a space in it.
I have verified that the variable does indeed contain the whole address and I have also verified when I execute the following: document.write ('<input type="hidden" name="address1" value='+address_1+'>');
the address_1 parameter passed to the php script only passes the string up to the first space.
I even tried to put fixed text in there instead of a variable (e.g.)
Code: $("#save_photos_all_continue").click(function() { event.preventDefault(); var $black_white_all = $("#black_white_all").is(':checked'); var $color_all = $("#color_all").is(':checked'); var $other_all = $("#other_all").is(':checked'); [Code]...
In Google Chrome it works fine but in Mozilla/5.0 it actually goes to the save_edits page instead of just using the post and staying on the original page.
The original page is visible for a very short moment, before the modifications done with the javascript are visible. This is logic to me, sinceI add my javascriptat the end of the page, as recomended. For the user it is a little confusing. Is there a way that the user sees only the page with the javascript modifications?
I have a regular html page called a.html this page opens a modal dialog window called modal1.html modal1.html contains a 'Next' button. when the button is pressed the modal1.html is replaced with modal2.html
modal2.html contains another button. when its button is pressed, the modal dialog window should close and the location of the original page a.html should change. I am trying to do something like:
I'm setting up a picture album site. When i click on a thumbnail or a picture, a larger picture pops up in a javascript window. But it has a space on the top and on the left of my larger pic in the pop-up window. How do i get rid of that? Also, i want the window to fit my my pic so there's no space whatsoever around it.
I've written a re-usable function to erase and replace a form input value, but when I try and restore the value and colour it will return "undefined" instead of what should be there
Code: function erase_replace_value() { // get all of the input tags
I have encoded same javascript file with "Microsoft script encode" and accidentally deleted the original file. There is a way to convert the encoded file into the original version.. The form of the encoded file is : <script type="text/jscript.encode">#@~^.....
I am trying to create a new window from which the original page can close that new window. For some reason the following code will not work. Passing the window.open command to a variable called myWindow does not work with the mouse event, but it seems to work fine with a javascript: URL command. I would prefer to do it with the mouse event. Code:
I need to run window.open() via href (not via onclick) as the CMS I'm working on only allows setting the href, not the whole <a> tag. I'm doing this: <a href="javascript: window.open('myUrl.php');">click this</a> and the window pops up just fine but the originating page changes to blank with '[object Window]' in it. How can I prevent the originating page from changing URL (by adding something to the javascript call)? Like "return void;" or something - but of course that didn't work...
i have a form, and for the user to upload a file, i use window.open with my upload script. however, after the file is uploaded, i want the filename to be put back on the original page in an input text field. how would i go about doing this?
I'm trying to think of the best way to do this, and have it be browser-friendly (Read: Runs in IE, FF, Chrome, and optimally Safari too, but the last one isn't necessary). User selects an item in a dropdown list. Clicks the Add button. A new entry inside a DIV appears, which consists of a hidden form field, the entry name, and a Del button. When the delete button, I need it to erase that entry (and the associated hidden field) but not the whole block.
I need a script to open a popup window which contains a php form. after the form has been submitted or cancelled i need to go back to the originated page (php also) and reload original page.
I don't know if this is a browser bug. I positioned a div at the bottom of the page just underneath the viewport, calculating it with $(document).height() and animate it to bottom:0, works great even when scrolling, cause of updating with the scroll-event. But when I reload this page or scroll down a bit the original position value was used, so it animates to the original viewport value.
I want to add this functionality to my table....when page loads I want the <div> tag be disabled...so that all the elements within the <div> be disabled.
But when the user clicks the enableDiv button, the <div> becomes enabled.
Below is a block of code from a Wordpress plugin called "MM Forms", which handles form creation. The part of the code below deals with what happens when a form is submitted, which I believe is around this part:
If you go on my test site: [URL]... You will see a navigation menu at the top, with an animated ball. Every time you click on one of the links in the navigation menu, you will notice that after a new page is loaded there is a sudden jump from the balls original position to it's new position. (Not that obvious in Firefox but very obvious in IE and Safari) My question is how can I resolve this.
I assumed that wrapping the code in the $(document).ready function would elimate this issue as everything inside it will load before the page contents are loaded.
I am finishing up creating a fairly complex page that is very rich in DHTML. In addition to updating it self every couple of seconds, various components on it support sync and async communication with various web services.
The problem is that if a user tries to click on any JS driven content before the page is fully loaded, it will not work properly since it relies on many onLoad scripts that initiate webservices etc.
is there a clean way, to simply disable any page functionality before it loads ?
other than explicitly enabling every control in window.onload() event.
I have recently worked on a flash based learning course and built functionality where users throughout the course can type in their own notes based on the course, and they can revisit these everytime they launch the course, the functionality is simply using flash cookies to store the notes on the users machine. I wanted to build functionality so that they could then save these notes to their hard disk and e-mail them on. To do this I call a javascript function from flash which opens a new webpage, passes through the notes from flash and uses document.write to write the notes to the new webpage. Then the user Saves (as web page html only) to save a copy to their machine.
The problem is I want to do this web page up a bit more, add graphics etc. but if I save as web page html only it won't include any images I add to the html page, and if I change it so that they save as (Web Page Complete) rather than write the webpage out with the notes it will write the webpage with the code document.write(string) but as this is on the users hard disk now string will be undefined as it no longer run alongside the course. Is their any other way anyone can think of doing this type of functionality, I am trying to stay away from using PHP
Im using keyup function to track text typed in input box. The idea is to perform incremental search in db. This works fine. After this I update the html dynamically to display the filtered resuts and at the same time I must dynamically rewrite the html for input box code. After this the keyup function is not working anymore, allthough the id tag is the same? How should I get around this?
I am completely new to jQuery, and I don't even know how to approach or implement what I am trying to do.Before the home page of a site I've developed appears, I want the logo of the company to appear on the screen, then fade out to reveal the web page with full functionality.I also could do this be fading out the logo to reveal a static image of the home page which then could redirect to actual home page.
I am using a very simple search-type page to enable users to input a model number and its page appears in a inline frame. Its not a true search as it is simply relying on a person entering the correct html page name to find it. But this works perfectly in my application. The problem I have is that I cannot get the type box to accept enter key as a submitt, only a click of the mouse will submitt the request. If enter is pressed the box loses the users input but no action is taken.I think this may be a javascript issue. I have posted the code below.
