Open New Window Using Href Without Changing Original Page URL
Apr 10, 2010
I need to run window.open() via href (not via onclick) as the CMS I'm working on only allows setting the href, not the whole <a> tag. I'm doing this: <a href="javascript: window.open('myUrl.php');">click this</a> and the window pops up just fine but the originating page changes to blank with '[object Window]' in it. How can I prevent the originating page from changing URL (by adding something to the javascript call)? Like "return void;" or something - but of course that didn't work...

Here is what I am trying to do:
1.) Replace the submit button with an <a href"#">. I have been able to accomplish this with just using HTML Code:
[html]<a onclick="document.forms['finish_print'].submit(); return false;">
[/html]... That's easy enough.
2.) This link should then open in an new window, annnnnd that window's size should be resizable. I've been using this technique for other standard links via jquery....
jQuery('a.popup').live('click', function(){ newwindow=window.open($(this).attr('href'),'','height=350,width=600'); if (window.focus) {newwindow.focus()}
However, when attempting to combine these two, I always get an undesired affect. I would provide the entire code, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

I currently have a normal link like Code:<a href="http://sitepoint.com" class="link">sitepoint</a> and when a user clicks on it I want to be able to change the "link" class to a different class. However, I don't want to add anything to the actual link html. Is it possible to do this using javascript without modifying the original link code?

I am trying to create a new window from which the original page can close that new window. For some reason the following code will not work. Passing the window.open command to a variable called myWindow does not work with the mouse event, but it seems to work fine with a javascript: URL command. I would prefer to do it with the mouse event. Code:

I've got a link that launches a little AJAX application in a window.
Like this:
function launchListener()
{
var newWindow = window.open("listener.php", "newWindow",
"width=300,height=150");
}
Ideally, once this window is loaded, it will sit in the background and
wait for stuff to happen. I would like to then change the title bar to
denote changes. Simple enough, right?
Anyway, problem is: When the new window launches, its title is not
exactly what I assign it in "listener.php" (for instance, "Listener"),
but rather "http://155.55.55.55 - Listener" (or whatever). This means
that while sitting the taskbar, generally all the user is going to see
is a domain name and some dots, rather than what I want them to see.

I have a table which contains multiple rows. The table has an unknown number of columns.
One of the TD's in the row has an 'A' tag containing the HREF property " /_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx? somenumber" Let's call this TDSource and ASource
A sibling TD in the same row which has a class of ms-vb-title contains2 links- the'A' tagI want to update the HREF property of is in a DIV with a class of ms-vb itx . Lets call this TDTarget and ATarget.
The highlighted components are unique per row. I need to get the HREF value from ASource in each row and update the HREF value for ATarget in the same row.
It's my first day on jQuery - I understand that I can use children() to getthe TR containing the relevant TD's, and I can see how to use :contains() to identify the specific source HREF property, but I can't understand how to link these bits of information together to do what I want.

I know next to nothing about javascript and I don't even know if this is possible. I need to target window.location.href to an iframe on a different page. So, right now, the piece of the code that redirects the browser looks like this: window.location.href='http://www.somewhere.com/'; Works great, brings it up in the same browser window. So now I need to modify the code so it goes to a different page and brings that page up in a specified iframe.

I open a link in a new window:
<a href="http://www.somewhere.com/some.hml"
onclick="window.open(url,null,'resizable=yes,toolbar=no,loc ation=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrol lbars=yes,width=600,height=400');">Link</a>
The page I am opening is not mine.
I want to edit the content of the page I am opening, adding text
"This page is opened in a new window" as a first thing after the body
tag of the opened page.
Is it possible to do it with javascript, while opening the page, or
should I use Java?

I need to open a window without scrollbars, menus, etc. and a specific size. I believe I have found scripts that can do this. But I also need it to open to specific coordinates of the page. i.e, only displaying the center portion of the page (the page is not mine) and not letting the user move to other portions with scroll bars, nor resize the window.I realiize that hitting tab will usually move them around, but I am not worried about that. They won't know where they are and will just reload.I have basic html skills but not scripting, other than copying/pasting other people's code.

I am using my script to update my table with the click number and then redirect to the stored href link code...
The only problem I have with this is that my web page gets replaced.
What I really want to do is open a new window and have the new web page in that. I can put a notice to say it will open a new window, its just that it will really annoy people if my page closes on them when they are half way through a tutorial !
What do I need to do to open the link in a new window ?

Suppose I have multiple pages, and one javascript file (the js file is available to all pages). Using a javascript function I open a new window from first page. Script looks like this:

What I would like to do is close this window as soon as other pages load. Suppose user clicks a menu and that load a new page. But I would like to close the child window after the 2nd page load. Is it possible to close the window in the second page with the name (using the same java script, or may be use another java script)?
