Sliding Panel - Take The Object OSidebar Out Of The Global Scope

Jun 10, 2011

I created this code for a sliding panel and it works well. But I'm struggling to take the object oSidebar out of the global scope. I would prefer that it were a property of the clicked event object. That is, I want to be able to use 'this.oSidebar' within the click event. I've posted the whole page here along with the click image.

Mozilla And Global Scope

Jan 22, 2005

I've just realized that in Mozilla pointer variables always have local scope in a function. Unlike IE. I wondered if Mozilla was able to do it in some other way? readXML() is an init() function which might be a constraint - I'm no javascript expert.

// The following won't work in Mozilla.

var record;

function readXML()
{
record=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("record");
}

alert(record[0].childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue);

Sliding Panel - Slides Out Or In Smoothly

Jun 9, 2011

I've created this sliding panel where I click the Sidebar button and it slides out or in. But I would like to make it run more smoothly. I tried storing references to the elements within the MoveSidebar() as this.variables, so that they wouldn't be re-defined each time, but then FF spits out that 'this.sidebar.style' is undefined?!

How can I make it run more smoothly, or get FF to recognise 'this.sidebar.style' (once I reinstate all the this.references)? Here's the whole page and the button is also attached for ease of testing.

JQuery :: Side-sliding Panel Bugs?

Oct 6, 2011

go to the "Jupiter" graphic on the top left, you'll see that I have a little tab at the bottom of that labeled "Physical". When you click on it, it slides out of the way, exposing a tab labeled "Orbital" and when you click on that one it slides out of the way and exposes a third tab labeled "Atmosphere". These all drive the little spec sheets above- though that's not where the problem lies.The problem is when instead of clicking on the exposed label, you click on the little sliver of the one right behind it, causing the other two tabs to do unintended things. Here's the code:

$(document).ready(function(){
$(".badgeTab-A").click(function() {
$(this).animate({'left':'+=80px'}, 'fast', 'linear');

JQuery :: Positioning Div - Create A Sliding Panel Using Css

Oct 25, 2009

I'm trying to create a sliding panel using css and jQuery, sliding up from the footer of our page. The panel is acitvated by clicking the "newsletter" link (will be used to display a subscription form) in the footer. Functionality looks good, but there is a problem with the look and the positioning. First of all, the positioning is off. It fits seemlesly in the FF I used for creating this effect, but on various browsers and resolutions, the div is displayed higher or lower in stead of "glued" to the top of the footer div. Secondly, I'd like this div to be 100% wide, just like the footer below, with a 940px centered div within to include the content.

Scope And Object Question

Apr 6, 2006

I had a need for a two dimentional array. Looking for this solution, I
ran accross a statement than all Javascipt arrays were arrays of
objects. So I created a function prototype, at least thats what I was
calling it:

function objRow(vartype, varaddr1, varaddr2)
{
this.type = vartype;
this.addr1 =varaddr1;
this.addr2 =varaddr2;
}

Next I did:
var myobject=new objRow("1", "1234 Main St.", "Apt 101");

At this point I was able to see myobject.addr1 or any other variable in
the object instance.

Now I added this object to a table.
var aryTestTable= new Array();
aryTestTable[0]= myobject;
At this point I could see
aryTestTable[0].addr1
Next I tried an additional object
myobject=new objRow("1", "1234 Main St.", "Apt 101"); //with
different data
And added it to the table
aryTestTable[1]= myobject;
Where I could see:
aryTestTable[1].addr2 or any other variable.

so far so good. Then I started the actual application code where I was
reading a database table and creating the objects and adding them to
the table. This was in a for loop wherein the myobject=new objRow("1",
"1234 Main St.", "Apt 101"); was instantiated.

After the for loop was finished, I could not access the data in the
table - undefined.

So my questions are: Have the my object instances popped off the stack?
and What is the alternative way to implement this table of rows of
values.

Object Loses Scope With Onchange?

Mar 10, 2009

I will do my best to explain this one and sorry if the title isn't that great. I am trying to write a javascript object and it is my first time, so it isn't that great and of course I have trouble.The object is suppose to populate a dropdown (popMake()) and then add an onchange event (checkValue()) to it. It seems to do this fine but when the select box is changed, I no longer have access to object, it's parameters, etc. In checkValue I don't have access to this.currentMake which was just set or anything (already said that).I believe it has something to do with scope (possibly closure, but I didn't see how it would fit her). So how can I do something like this and still have access to the object after the click?Code below:Code:

window.onload = function() {
var mm = new makeModel();
mm.popMake();

Scope Issues With My Javascript Object

Mar 26, 2006

I'm having trouble getting the following code to work properly. Every time I try to access the private testing variable from the priveleged MyMethod it gives an error. Says it can't find testing and that it has no properties so I can't run a push() command on it.

function MyClass()
{
var testing = new Array();

// define the method
function MyMethod()
{
this.testing.push("hello");
}

// make the method priveledged
this.MyMethod = MyMethod;
}

// a test function it ensure the variables declared here are isolated
function Start()
{
var myClass = new MyClass();

myClass.MyMethod();

document.write("[" + myClass.testing + "]");
}

Start();

JQuery :: Scope Of Accessing Array Object

Feb 14, 2011

I'm a little puzzled over the possibility of accessing an array. I've declared the previd id - in the proxy.invoke call which works just fine (we have already implemented an .each loop which also works. My problem is this - after accessing the proxy.invoke function, the previd is populated correctly with push but after the call, we cannot seem to access the previd array to make a join to a string. Here's the basics of the code.

var previd = [];
proxy.invoke("validdateIDCard", p_caregiverid,
function(validaterID) {
var valcard = validateID;
previd.push(valcard);
}, onPageError);
var finalvalue = previd.join("|"); <-- this is where the problem lies - cannot seem to read the variable...

Cannot Access Global Variable Inside Object Declaration

May 9, 2011

Well, it turns out IE8 has yet another problem. My code has a global variable (to the object) inside an object declaration that cannot be accessed by a function (that is also global).

The code is like so:
Code:
function myobject(params){
//public
this.initialize = function(){...}
//private
some variables...
//problem variable
var mouse = new Object()
mouse.x = 0;
mouse.y = 0;

//code...
slidecontainer = document.createElement("div");
slidecontainer.onmousemove = function(event) {
if(boo.isIE) {
e = window.event;
mouse.x = e.x + document.body.scrollLeft;
mouse.y = e.y + document.body.scrollTop;
} else {
e = event;
mouse.x = e.clientX + document.body.scrollLeft;
mouse.y = e.clientY + document.body.scrollTop;}}

//this function is in an interval
function moveslides() {
/* this is where I have the problem

It seems that the function doesn't recognize that mouse.x, or mouse for that matter, exists. Mouse is global to the object, so why can't this function access it?
*/if(mouse.x) {
code...
}}}
The page is at [URL] and works on every browser, including finnicky opera, except for ie. The full code is availabe when you right click and view the source on the page.
